1998, Lt. Surge (マチス Matis) the Gym Leader of Vermilion City by Ken Sugimori for the expansion Gym Heroes (ジム拡張第1弾 リーダーズスタジアム), scanned by us and Linkdu83 and enhanced by FLECKABEN!
Date unknown, probably late 1993 or early 1994, Ken Sugimori concept art for the sprites of the original Pokémon Red and Green Gym Leaders. The first Gym was probably meant to be Viridian Gym, led by the youngster guy in the pic. Sabrina is also “misplaced”, supposedly listed as 8 (the number is not visible in the original). Restored from the original posted on Sugimori’s twitter.
1998, Erika (エリカ) the Gym Leader of Celadon City by Ken Sugimori for the expansion Gym Heroes (ジム拡張第1弾 リーダーズスタジアム), scanned by us and enhanced by FLECKABEN!
1996 or 1997, Erika (エリカ Erika) the Gym Leader of Celadon City’s gym by Ken Sugimori, this should be the first full figure Gym Leader set by Sugimori, excluding the concept art for the Gym Leaders’ sprites of course.
1998, Ken Sugimori, art from the Pokémon Trading Card エリカのお付き Erika’s Maids from the expansion Gym Heroes.
My favorite

-Aphrodite, Greek Goddess of love- The Greek goddess of love, beauty and sexuality, also known by her Roman name, Venus. She’s one of the twelve gods that dwell on Mount Olympus. Depending of the version, she’s either the daughter of Zeus with the Oceanid Dione, or was born from the sea foam formed when Uranus’ was castrated by his son Cronus and had his genitals thrown into the sea (making her the oldest of the Olympians in this context). Aphrodite was described as so desirable, that in order to avoid a conflict among the gods, Zeus quickly arranged a marriage between her and Hephaestus, the smith god. Despite this, she had numerous affairs with both mortals and gods alike, among them with Ares, god of war, with whom she had Phobos and Deimos, gods of fear and terror respectively. Aphrodite governed over different forms and aspects of love and passion, with Plato describing her reigning over spiritual and pure love as Aphrodite Urania and lustful passion as Aphrodite Pandemos. She’s described both as a kind and lovable, and even motherly figure, but also possessing a more vain and violent side which she demonstrates to those who disrespect or reject her love in some form. It is believed that she traces her origins back to the cult of the goddess Astarte in Phoenicia.
-Ogun, God of Iron- The Yoruba Orisha of iron, and patron god of everything related to it, including warriors, metalworkers and even machinists. Ogun represents the development of human technology and the use of tools to transform nature. According to some stories, he had an active role in the creation of the world, helping shape the mountains and the minerals within. With his sword Adagá, he cleared the way for humans to populate the land, helping birth civilization. In Brazilian Candomblé traditions, Ogun’s warrior aspect is emphasized, with his devotees said to manifest strong personality traits due to his influence. He’s syncretised with Saint George, and associated with dogs and the colors blue, green and red.
