Batik from Madura Island - The Nation's Pride Artistry.

This is one of the largest Batik outlets in Madura Island (Indonesia). Produced by local artists, the Madura Batik has its own characteristics in regards to their patterns and the curing process. The premium hand-drawn Batik take months to produce. The candle-drawn Batik then cured in a barrel with special solution for up to 12 months. This method is called 'Gentong' which literally means 'barrel' which ensures long lasting quality of this textile art. Photos by T.I.T.S

My recent trip to Surabaya and Madura Island (Indonesia) was mind opening and relaxing. Surabaya has a lot of interesting architecture; their streets are green. I had the opportunity to visit one of the largest tile centres in Java which located on Jalan Baliwerti (Baliwerti Street). The shops stocked with imported and local made tiles. In Madura Island, I visited one of the largest Batik Store produced by the local artists.
