As some of you may know, a short while ago I purchased a hand-made leather bound Anton LaVey Satanic Bible. The person whom I purchased this from found my blog, and both the images and video of me with my Bible, and after exchanging a few emails in regards to his incredible collection of Satanic memorabilia, (inclusive of an impressive amount of books, along with Anton LaVey's autograph), I discovered not only is he talented in book-binding, but an incredibly talented artist, who in my mind, certainly doesn't have the exposure he deserves for his work. He goes by the name Brian, and here are some of his drawings:
If, like me, you are an Atheistic Satanist or indeed simply interested in the religion or a fan of Anton LaVey and his work, I suggest you check out Brian's store.

From John Doe: "Dawkins, you and your atheist friends cannot win. America WILL become a Christian Republic even if we have to write a whole new constitution. Millions of us are dedicated to this righteous cause. We will suceed. And then we will invade godless countries like “Great” Britain and kill all of your heathens. First we need to take care of things at home and in the Middle East but we will get around to Europe. You Godless freaks will die but then you will roast in hell for infinite time. Goodbye you loser."
Wow.
Religion: Comforting people in a world torn apart by religion.
Jon Stewart
“Listen. There are 200 countries in the world now. Do these people honestly think that God is sitting around picking out his favorites? Why would he do that? Why would God have a favorite country? And why would it be America out of all the countries? Because you have the most money? Because he likes our National Anthem? Maybe it’s because he heard we have 18 delicious flavors of Classic Rice-A-Roni! It’s delusional thinking! And America is not alone with this sort of delusions. Military cemeteries around the world are packed with brainwashed dead soldiers who were convinced God was on their side. America prays for God to destroy our enemies. Our enemies pray for God to destroy us. Somebody’s gonna be disappointed. Somebody’s wasting their fucking time. Could it be everyone?”

I am proud to be an American, but sometimes people in this country make it so hard for me to be proud of America.
There is a difference between Atheism and Anti-theism
invictvs:
missmaestra:
I accept that some people do not believe in the existence of a higher power.
However, when these individuals insult another person because of their spiritual beliefs; I cannot help but be offended.
I am an anti-theist myself. I don’t attack others for their beliefs, nor do I verbally give my criticism on their religion unless asked. Such behavior is not only infinitely futile, but very counter-productive to the rationalist movement altogether.
My boyfriends dad is a former Minister of the Church. Everytime I bring up religion my boyfriend says he can't wait to tell his dad I'm an Atheist. Apparently, his dad could rip my argument "to shreds". My issue is this: just because you can quote me the bible verbatim doesn't change the fact that you put your faith in something intangible and unproven. I, on the other hand, put my faith in something completely tangible and completely proven (birth certificate and everything). I put faith in myself, and myself alone. And because of this, I'm pretty sure I win. Every fucking time.
A Message to Outspoken Creationists
flamingatom:
To Outspoken Creationists:
Your rejection of science is, in as few words as possible, quite bothersome. Whenever I see a creationist proof that “disproves” evolution (something that 150 years of scientific scrutiny not been able to do) you bring up outdated and, more importantly, refuted evidence. Whenever I see an (even more innane) idea that rejects such concrete fact as plate tectonics and continental shift, the only thing used is flawed logic. Whenever you argue for the existence of your god, of a god, all I have seen are logical fallacies and strawman arguments.
It seems, to me, that your rejection of “controversial” scientific theories (which are in no way controversial outside of your limited view of reality) does not stem from errors in the scientific method, nor does it stem from errors in logic or error of others, nor does it stem from errors in scientific procedures. Your rejection of science (and total ignorance of other science in the world around you, including the science that makes the Internet through which you communicate your ignorance possible) seems to stem (and this may be total conjecture) from your inability to cope with the modern world. Your childhood indoctrination or, even worse, born-again faith has instilled an ignorance in the heart of your psyche. You cling to a world view millenia old, a world view which has been left behind by the intellectuals of the world. These are the same intellectuals who have produced such wondrous and detailed scientific theories as plate tectonics, evolution through natural selection, the Big Bang theory, the expanding universe theory, the theory of gravity, biology, biochemistry, and others.
Science is about weeding out bad ideas and finding evidence for good ideas. You start with a hypothesis, an idea, and you work from there. You experiment. You observe. You record. In the end, you gather the data and observations and determine if your hypothesis was supported or not. If it was, good for you! Time to go to step two. If not, you revise your hypothesis and start over again.
If your hypothesis is supported, you write a final documentation of your entire procedure (hope you kept notes) and send it off to the wonderful gauntlet of peer review. If you use experimentation, people attempt to replicate them. If you made observations, the peer reviewers (let’s just call them “scientists,” in the terms of people qualified and educated to do science) attempt to make these same observations, and they will compare their own inferences with yours. It’s a lengthy process designed to assure that ideas are refined and shaped to all of our past evidence so that, if your findings are found to be true, your findings can be published and added onto the massive tower that is modern science, which itself serves as a pillar of modern society.
Ignorance is bliss; ignorance is fine and dandy, even if you flaunt it to others. No, what creationists do (and I do not mean all creationists, as I myself know a few who are respectable people; I refer exclusively to those performing the deeds stated hereafter) is force this world view onto others. They manipulate fact. They manipulate politics. They rebrand their idea as “creation science” (inherent joke: “science” is in the name) and “intelligent design” (inherent joke: “intelligent” is in the name). They remain blissfully (and sometimes angrily) ignorant of hundreds of years of scientific discovery. You reject the works of thousands, tens of thousands, perhaps...

Atheist activism is not a waste of time. Rates of non-belief are going up at an astonishing rate, around the country and around the world. In fact, in every state in the U.S., the fastest-growing religious affiliation is “none.” Those of us trying to get atheist ideas out into the world are clearly doing something right. Pass it on: if we say it enough times to enough people, it may get across.

I first thought he was his son, but then he turns out to be him… but still his son… It kinda seems like the author just stole that idea from “Fight Club” but butchered it.

My story probably isn’t all that unique, but I figured I would share it.
I was, like many children, raised in a religious household. It wasn’t ultra-religious but there was definitely a God and, until my mom converted to Judaism to match my father’s faith, there was certainly a Hell. I prayed every night.
As I grew though it became clear that there was something wrong. I had random fits of rage and would often turn that anger against myself. I even thought of dying, which was strange since I was still only in grade school. My mom recounts a story of me walking out and laying down in some snow in just shorts and a t-shirt telling her that I’d be ok because it’s warm in heaven. Episodes like this only got worse and worse. I was diagnosed with ADD, put on Ritalin, and sent to therapy. Meanwhile I still thought of dying and felt an enormous amount of pain that seemed to come from nowhere. So I kept on praying. I prayed to God that he would take my suffering away. After all, I was just a kid, and though I’d surely sinned I’d done nothing to warrant what I was going through. Yet the pain persisted and when I was finally old enough I got placed on anti-depressants. Yet I still prayed… and I still wanted to die. Finally it was concluded that I had bipolar disorder, and was one of the rare cases where it manifested in childhood. I was still praying for an answer to why I had been chosen to suffer; I was still asking what I’d done to deserve God’s wrath. I was also placed on mood stabilizers.
When it came time for confirmation, for me to announce that I had made an adult decision to remain Jewish, I couldn’t do it. I went to all the classes, I listened to what was said and I read everything I could get my hands on related to the Jewish tradition. No religious text could give me a satisfactory answer as to why I was given these mind altering highs where everything was truly wonderful only to come crashing down and wind up in a personal hell wanting to die. Religion had no answers for me… science did.
There was no God to punish me and there never was. There was, is, a neurochemical imbalance in my brain that can be regulated through the use of psychiatric medicines. All those years while I was wasting my time praying, I should have been writing thank you notes to all the chemists and neuroscientists who were engineering the medications that saved me from myself.
God didn’t save me. Science did.
And now that I don’t waste my time bemoaning my fate or cursing something that isn’t there, things are better. It is still an uphill battle many days, but I have a satisfactory answer for why things are the way they are. Sure there are gaps in that answer, but I know that there are people out there taking very real steps towards filling those gaps. So long as people are taking rational steps like that, the world will get better everyone. Imaginary friends can’t do that.
