carterhotels·:
Her initial response was excitement. No matter what her body said, she loved dogs and nothing would take that away. May take away her ability to breathe, but she had to figure out what was truly important to her.
“Thea! Hey!” truthfully, the almost immediate reaction happening within her caused her to forget. That little annoying tickle in her throat that told her she was in for a bad time was the lead distraction. “Oh,” she coughed a little and shook her head. “Shit.” she cleared her throat and began digging in her pockets. “Chillin’, yunno?”
“Zep, please!” Thea begged as she finally managed to pull the chipper and overly excited pup off the woman and quickly eased him to her car.
She was back in seconds, panic rising on her face. How about that? Twenty seconds and she’d potentially KILLED her. That had to be a record. “Are you alright, dude? I’m SO sorry. He’s not normally this badly behaved.” she lied. Zeppelin LOVED new people, especially if they seemed even slightly friendly.
folks say papa never was much on thinking,
spent most of his time chasing women and drinking...

“...CJ? Hi.” Thea muttered. The last person she expected to see was the woman who’d saved her skin so thoroughly all those months ago. “What brings you all the way out here?”
Before she could stop him, Zeppelin was charging toward the other woman and jumping on her. She may not have known much, but she could have SWORN CJ had mentioned an allergy before.
“Zep, stop!” she practically shrieked, her long fingers reaching out to pull at his collar. “Don’t, buddy.”
cristinatheincredible·:
For Cristina, Thea was a breath of fresh air. Lots of her ‘friends’ cared too much about everything and she had only now begun to break the bondage of that. Being friends with Thea made it that much easier.
Smiling, she let her head rest against Thea’s for a moment, enjoying the closeness to her that she never really had with other people. She could spend a whole day with Thea and never get tired of being with her. “We’ve got each other and I feel like that’s what’s really important,” she told her.
She almost got lost in the moment before remembering they couldn’t spend all their time doing this in the shoe store. “Oh! We need laces too!” She spoke up, ignoring the person behind the counter. “You should get pink ones and I’ll get green!”
thea could have KILLED the kid when their moment finally broke apart. sure, it had to end some time, but she couldn’t help but feel like he helped escalate it far too quickly. the mention of the opposite colored laces made her smile once more, though. “yes! you’re a genius.”
she moved to where some laces were on display and lifted some pink ones up to her shoes. “what do you think? is it perfect?”
carterhotels·:
“…how many folks we talkin?” CJ’s mind immediately began working. If this woman was about to offer her room out if she didn’t think it was to someone who could come and check themselves in. “Them folks need some food or somethin’?” maybe there was something helpful she could do. Just to help out in the community.
it wasn’t often that thea met people with her same spirit for helping people. at least ones that didn’t want to shove cameras in someone’s face and give only to earn ‘CLOUT.’ so the fact that this woman she’d just met was more than willing to help out warmed her heart. “you know what? they might.” she conceded. “i could ask. i was gonna get them some, but i’ll take any assistance i can get.”
carterhotels·:
“I don’t see why not.” she’d never had anyone ask the question specifically. Thinking on it, she couldn’t think of any reason why there’d be an issue with her doing so. “S’long as they aren’t gonna trash the place, ain’t no issue. And even if they do, it’s more your problem than ours cause we’ll just,” she made a light sound with her mouth. “Tag you for it since it’s in your name.”
“cool. i might do that then.” thea didn’t care if they trashed the place and she got billed for it. she had plenty of money and all it was doing was sitting in a bank. it might as well go to a good cause. “there are some people not far from here who could use a hotel for a few days.” she explained. “i’ll take the room, then. thank you so much again.”
cristinatheincredible·:
As much as Cristina didn’t want to throw money at everything in her life, but there were moments like this where she was not sure how else to show her affection. It was such a small thing, just a pair of shoes, but to Cristina it was her way of showing how much she cared for Thea. Besides, there was already a sentimental attachment to those shoes for Cristina, they would remind her of the time she and Thea spent time together at the mall.
Cristina felt a blush rise on her cheeks at the compliment, her smile brightening if that was at all possible. “And I appreciate you!” She told her, nudging her as she cradled the shoes. “I don’t…I don’t really have a lot of friends like you,” she admitted. What that really translated to was that Cristina did not have a lot of real friends.
oh, good. not that thea was happy for the other woman’s loneliness, not at all. but it did make her feel better. like, yeah, maybe she was a loser, but there were other losers out there and she wasn’t so alone.
not that she thought cristina was a loser. she was too beautiful for that. but her friends were all probably vapid ones who saw her status and not who she was. thea had friends like that before, and her mother had even more. it wasn’t pretty and it wasn’t cool. it didn’t make anyone feel valuable.
“me neither.” she said softly before plopping her head onto cristina’s shoulder. “that’s okay. i have you.”
when the teenager behind the counter stared over at them, thea rolled her eyes. “can i help you?”
cristinatheincredible:
All her life, Cristina had known her mother to be obsessed with the immaculate. Even in her baby photos, she never had a stain on her clothing or cheeks. Still, her little ways of revenge came in the way of putting in clothing that her mother would find ‘ugly’.
The very sight of neon sneakers made her buzz with excitement, even more at the idea that she and Thea were going to relatively match with their bright shoes. “I can’t wait to wear these. I’ve got the perfect outfit for it!” She told her, grinning widely. The brunette took the green pair of sneakers from Thea. “You’ve gotta let me pay for yours too. You’ve been so great all day to me.”
thea was technically a “rich girl” like cristina. it was never as prominent or promoted by her parents as the other woman’s, but thea came from money. when her father died, she got two-thirds of his entire wealth in a trust fund. her mother had insisted the money belonged to her daughter and she just needed enough to keep her feet on the ground. so thea didn’t NEED cristina to pay for the shoes. in fact, her intention had been to pay for both of them herself.
but putting up a fight was rude, so she nodded. “thank you. i really appreciate... well, you.” with a lifestyle like thea’s-- always traveling, just standoffish enough to be friendly but not form connections-- it was hard to maintain real relationships. that’s why she clung so tightly to someone like cristina.

❝ Look, I’m hardly Brian Wilson. ❞ He found himself having to use both hands to hold the board up, which was a hell of a lot taller than him. ❝ Well, uh, why don’t you help me or somethin’? Just, like, come along for an hour or so, and tell me if I’m doin’ it right? I’ll pay you for your time, ‘cause I’m willing to bet my photographer hasn’t got a fuckin’ clue how to use a board either. ❞
she’d only been at work an hour and a half and someone was offering her ANOTHER job. she doubted her business would suffer for the hour she had to flip the sign. she hardly got a steady stream in, especially when she was pretty sure part of the beach would be closed off for this photoshoot. then again, she could always call her backup in. rachel only came in a couple days a week or whenever thea decided the wind was taking her somewhere else for the time being, but they had a pretty solid agreement that she’d come in and watch the store whenever since she only lived a walk away.
“okay, you know what? yeah. i’ll help. i won’t even need money, i’ll do it for the love of art.” she insisted. a surf aesthetic wasn’t exactly the one her father had clung to, but she still remembered how important his photoshoots were. so she’d help. “give me like ten minutes for my relief to show up.”
carterhotels·:
“I always like to make sure she and her little husband remember.” she got behind the desk and smiled. She clacked away for a few seconds, scanning the rooms before perking up. “Oh, you ain’t no problem, I promise. But you’re in luck, we’ve got a room. It ain’t the same one but it’s a floor down. If ya can work with that, it’s yours. Stay as long as ya feel like.”
thea was beyond grateful that they’d be able to take care of her. the last thing she wanted to do was have to find YET ANOTHER hotel to stay at until her house was taken care of. “let’s go ahead and get it for a week. if i have any time left over, can i give someone else my key and let them stay?” she asked, suddenly thinking about the homeless people that littered the pier.
distantsuns·:
❝ Props guy and photographer’s assistant both smoked too much weed last night and aren’t answering the phone, if you must know. ❞ He said drily, looking at the board up and down with a raised eyebrow. ❝ It looks… heavy. ❞ It was nothing short of a miracle that he could carry his guitar, which was not that much lighter than the board. ❝ I look— ❞ James couldn’t contain the laugh that followed. ❝ Mate, this makes me look ridiculous. ❞
“i musn’t.” thea retorted, her nose naturally snarling up. she didn’t care if he wanted to keep his secrets, she got it. she was mostly just talking to kill time anyway, so all she needed was the one ‘warning’ to shut up.
“it IS heavy.” she heaved the board off the wall. “and if you ask me-- which you didn’t-- i think a photoshoot with a surfboard you don’t know how to use might make you look ridiculous anyway. but it’s a pretty board, trust me.” she glanced around with a sigh. “if not, i can sell you another one, but it’s going to get more use out of a pro.” maybe that was her biggest flaw-- she could be a bit protective of the surfboards in her shop.
cristinatheincredible:
“You say that till sleepovers become a regular thing. At least not on the weekends where my mom is trying to make me travel.” She was grateful for the life she had, but she was most enjoying herself when she was with Thea. Things were so easy and so simple, Cristina never had to pretend to be something she wasn’t and she was sure that Thea would see right through if she was.
Cristina’s eyes went wide as she could already spot the variety of sneakers and skate shoes that would make her mom gag. “So ready. Lead the way, you’re the expert.”
thea couldn’t imagine not getting along with your mom like she got along with hers. her mother was the number one person in her life, but clearly other people had... challenges with theirs.
she practically floated over to a pair of neon green sneakers-- tacky as ever, truly-- and immediately held them close to her. “these are coming home with me.” she muttered before pointing to a pair of bright pink shoes. “and these are coming home with you.”
@sapphiclovc
“you alright?” thea asked, tilting her head slightly. “you want some fries? you can definitely have some fries.” she came to this little diner once or twice a week and ordered the same thing-- a classic burger and fries with a strawberry milkshake. she’d eat alone and people watch. but on this night, however, SOMEONE ELSE was watching her. maybe they recognized her, maybe she’d spilled ketchup on her shirt again, but either way it didn’t matter. she was in a really good mood and they were welcome to join her. “come sit.” she offered, waving to the empty spot in front of her.
carterhotels·:
“I call my mama just to remind her that I’m annoyin’. I’m sure your mother appreciates you.” she grinned over her shoulder quickly before focusing back in front of herself. She didn’t want to end up doing something embarrassing like falling again or something. When the front desk came into view, she felt excited knowing they were a step closer to potentially brightening the other woman’s day. “Now, for the record, do you need that same room?”
“i don’t need to remind my mom. she already knows.” thea chuckled at the other woman’s words, as surprising as they were to her. something about the carefree honesty made thea feel safe. it felt like home to her. when they had almost reached the front desk and the question was asked, thea shook her head. “oh, of course not. any room will do! i should be out of your hair shortly anyway.”
cristinatheincredible:
Cristina laughed and nudged Thea playfully at the mention of being disowned. Would the Great Carrie DeBarge send her only child packing over a pair of shoes? No, but it wouldn’t stop her from lamenting for a week over what she could no doubt call ‘The deterioration of good taste’ for her daughter. “Now that you’ve said that, you can’t be surprised if I show up at your house with my bags, you know. Your couch will be the first place I want to crash.”
“you’re always welcome.” thea promised. she’d crashed on many couches before, and they were some of the best times of her life. the freedom of being able to be and do anything with no social responsibilities or the need to behave like anyone in particular. just chilling with a friend. so she’d certainly let cristina in whenever she wanted.
she paused at the shoe store and nodded. “this is the place. you ready to give your mom a hard time?”
