I have:

A compelling premise for my story

A well-developed cast of characters

The minimum conlang baby-steps necessary to give places and characters coherent names

A unique magic system and a variety of religious systems

An extensively built world (that includes a lot of details that don't matter to the story but exist because I have fun with it)

A variety of secondary conflicts involving multiple characters and motives

What I don't have:

An actual resolution to the overarching conflict of the whole story sjfhfshsfhsf

Actually made some progress on this front in the last few days. I have yet to find the actual conclusion, but there's a new decided avenue leading that way.

If it's not relevant to the story, I simply will not be giving an explanation. I've got enough going on without putting every tiny, insignificant detail to paper.

I've realized that Kessirlawyn is kind of just reverse Anna Komnene lol

Anna Komnene was Byzantine Princess who had aspirations be Queen but was stiffed out of the position by her brother and became a historian*.

Kessirlawyn had every intention of being a historian but was forced into the political forefront when her brother was assassinated.

Literally the inverse lol

The good plot twists aren't the ones that are wild left turns out of nowhere, they're the ones that make all the other little things that didn't quite add up before suddenly click

There's a somewhat major character death in The Story that, up until now, has been premeditated. But as I've ruminated on things this week, I've come to the conclusion that their death should be accidental. The result of a bad plan by a person who isn't bad: someone who is trying to do the wrong thing for the right reasons, but things go pear shaped in a way they never had foreseen.

The geology and ecology of the primary country in The Story as pretty much developed into "what if you took the Colorado Plateau and place it on the coastline of Northern California".

i'm not aro but i find it so annoying whenever i see a well-written, tight-knit friendship & people immediately jump to "they're dating/poly/qpr" like NO. they are FRIENDS. are we familiar with that concept? and it's getting to the point where i am genuinely afraid to write complex friendships because i don't want people to be like "oh this relationship is Too Meaningful to just be platonic" like no??? it's meaningful because it's platonic. ugh

One thing I'm certainly drawing from as I outline is my experience working in corporate America.

For example, Character A violently betrays Character B. Character B has Character A murdered in retaliation. Since Character B has been banished and most people don't realize he still has shooters in the country, they all assume Character C, who was a known enemy of Character A, is behind the death. There's no proof of this, so no real legal action can come from it, so Character C also decides to use this to her advantage to bolster her reputation.

This is precisely how corporate politics work.

Having to create a handful of new names reminds me that I hate conlanging.

positive: I have a spreadsheet programmed for this purpose

negative: I need a surname for a character, and nothing generated so far sounds good with his given name

I better make sure his surname is somewhat similar to the surname of another character (who also only has a given name at this point). Because they both come from families with related occupations.

When all is said and done, I'm going to get someone else who actually likes conlanging to go through everything and standardize the spellings of all the names I'm developing.

One thing about Kessirlawyn is that she's working hard and sacrificing in order to avoid a succession crisis, while also actively encouraging a religious schism. The duality of woman.
