Lartius (Alfred Enoch), Volumnia (Deborah Findlay) & Virgilia (Birgitte Hjort Sørensen), Coriolanus (Tom Hiddleston) & Aufidius (Hadley Fraser), and Cominius (Peter De Jersey)
The big teach-in protest is on Wednesday and Thursday and I’m making a sign based off of the line in Coriolanus “The people are the city” and it will say “The students are the school”
Is there a recording of the RSC Coriolanus with Trevor White and if there is not how much does the devil want for it.
Aufidius (Hadley Fraser) & Coriolanus (Tom Hiddleston)
Anger’s my meat; I sup upon myself, And so shall starve with feeding
Volumnia

More Coriolanus scratchings…one day I shall endeavour to stop flinging ink over everything.
coriolanus and hamlet switch places; hamlet spends the entire play going “on the one hand… well… even poor people need corn i guess??? on the other GOD STOP PRESSURING ME”; coriolanus spends the whole play clutching gertrude’s knees and snarling at anyone who comes near
No no, the Danes sit around playing cards while Coriolanus single handedly crushes Norway and flirt-fights with Fortinbras.
Enter two Officers, to lay cushions First Officer Come, come, they are almost here. How many stand for consulships? Second Officer Three, they say: but ‘tis thought of every one Coriolanus will carry it. First Officer That’s a brave fellow; but he’s vengeance proud, and loves not the common people. Second Officer Faith, there had been many great men that have flattered the people, who ne'er loved them; and there be many that they have loved, they know not wherefore: so that, if they love they know not why, they hate upon no better a ground: therefore, for Coriolanus neither to care whether they love or hate him manifests the true knowledge he has in their disposition; and out of his noble carelessness lets them plainly see’t.
Coriolanus - Act II, scene 2
best shakespeare adaptations? (at least for macbeth and julius caesar?) :)
In film? julius caesar definitely the one with marlon brando from the fifties/sixties which is like my holy grail but for a revisitation I absolutely loved caesar must die, it’s an italian film that won the berlin festival about prison inmates staging it and it’s like THE BEST OKAY. for macbeth three way tie between orson welles’, kurosawa’s the throne of blood and polanski’s version (I know he’s the person he is but his macbeth is a+ okay xD). then uh the coriolanus from a few years ago with butler and fiennes was excellent, every branagh adaptation around is pretty much great (hamleeett), sticking with kurosawa ran is an incredible king lear adaptation and I looveeeitt, tbh any welles movie off shakespeare is a good bet like the man was born to play falstaff okay xDDD the merchant of venice movie with al pacino and jeremy irons from some ten years ago was also excellent imo. aaand these are the ones that come to mind atm but if you want more recommendations from also actual productions and televisiom ask tumblr user electricalice she’s a lot more savvy than I am ;)
in honor of opening night - tullus aufidius, caius martius, and their volscian army
(aka the “violent gay wedding party” photo, as someone coined the phrase yesterday)
Hi, I sent a message the other day about the Coriolanus playlist. This is just a question, but why did you choose Arsonist's Lullaby?
basically it just sounds like a song that Rome could burn to and I’m a fan of that sentiment combining with Coriolanus as a play
also lots of references to fire/flames/burning = good caius content imo
look !!! at these !!! frickin sweet !!! photos of our show !!!!
lmao i just downloaded the ralph fiennes coriolanus for this class i’m in and one of the comments on the torrent was:
Shakespeare knew.
His nature is too noble for the world. He would not flatter Neptune for his trident, Or Jove for’s power to thunder. His heart’s his mouth. What his breast forges, that his tongue must vent, And, being angry, does forget that ever He heard the name of death.
