are clubs in portugal "politized" (is that even a word)? i mean in the sense like many of the clubs in spain, such as how basque and catalan clubs naturally are supported mostly by pro-independence & left-wing while others like real madrid and atletico madrid are supported mostly by nationalists and right wingers?
No, personally I don't think so. Clubs themselves usually don't do politics and rarely comment on it, but I won't deny there's a certain connotation with certain clubs.
For example, Benfica and Sporting are usually associated with right-wingers because of their main ultra groups (note I said ultras and not fans) are right-wing (and in some cases straight up fascist), but that doesn't mean the people who support the club nor the people in charge of these clubs do. I'll let you know as a benfiquista myself that the majority of Benfica fans hate these ultra groups because all they do is start fights and break stuff, especially when they go abroad, which naturally gives Benfica supporters a bad reputation.
Another example, the club Vitória SC from the city of Guimarães is usually associated with fascists and ultranationalists because of their location and the language the club and its supporters use (they call themselves "conquistadores"...), but that naturally doesn't mean all Vitória supporters are like that, and it should be noted the club always takes quick measures when any of their players or even a fan is a victim of any racist chants. I know a few Black Portuguese fans of Vitória and they told me they have never felt hated nor discriminated against by other fans, and actually do get quite offended when you call Vitória fans racist, even as a meme.
Spain is a different case because politics are an integral part of football, there's no other way around it. Football clubs tend to be associated with identity: if someone's a Basque who likes Athletic Club or Real Sociedad they will most likely be leftist and pro-independence/self-determination. And if someone is a Castillian who likes Real Madrid, naturally people will think they are a nationalist who hates all types of self-determiantion and rights for minority groups. Catalunya is interesting, you have Barcelona and Girona which are explicitly pro-Catalan, but Espanyol despite being a club based in Catalunya is quite ultra-nationalist and is against all things Catalan.
And the (main) ultra groups from these regions are explictly anti-fascist and leftist. When Real Sociedad played in Lisbon against Benfica, their fans brought Palestine flags with them to the stands.
But same as before, just because someone likes Atleti doesn't mean they're a racist ultranationalist, or just because you're a Galician who likes Celta doesn't mean you stand for any self-determination and might even be pro-Spaniard. Many such cases.
In Portugal, if you say you like Benfica or Sporting nobody will think of anything political.
