Today is my last day w. Maeve. She's got a meeting with a potential adopter tomorrow. We'll see what happens. Today we are moving very slowly & doing very little. I'm thinking about how one decision leads to another and can shape your life: how you can build your world through energy and attempt. Feeling very grateful.

Getting there
I feel a deep calm suddenly, knowing that I engaged with the student complainer with grace all semester, despite his original plagiarized paper. That grace thinned out when he plagiarized again, and I know he got the grade he deserves. I know, too, that I have engaged with the student I'm accused of being inappropriate with with support and kindness because he was a good student, and nothing more. There's a kind of relaxing into knowing I've acted with integrity that feels good: like I've maintained myself while the student complainer has engaged in very, very ugly behavior.
I inputted final grades for my COMP I class last night, a sort of miracle to complete things before the deadline. I received in my inbox this morning was a disgruntled message from a student, upset about the C he'd received in my course. This student used AI on one of of his first papers despite my no-use policy, and I, foolishly (despite his combative attitude) allowed him to resubmit it. His persuasive essay, submitted later in the semester, included quite a bit of information that was not cited. His complaint is that I "don't like his writing style" but more importantly, that I also engaged in inappropriate behavior with another male student. This is an inaccurate and dangerous complaint for which he is a) very wrong and b) has no evidence of. My stomach is in my feet; I am so tired and so disturbed.

Such a sweet day. Felt deep welling up of joy & tenderness when the birding group erupted in tandem with observations, everyone pointing this way and that, kids with their 'nocs lifted, one of them adding species names to their journal, the oldhead grandpas that reminded me of my uncles sounding off their knowledge, directing our gazes.
