Website Title Sequence

Applying for graduate jobs I noticed Cinema 4D as a desirable bonus skill. Having already worked with that programme I wanted to learn more. To give this project a purpose I chose to redesign my header .gif on my website.

I currently have a very simple animation .gif on website and as an introduction to myself I wanted to improve this and showcase some of my skills.

As Adobe have combined After Effects with c4d I believe this desired bonus skill will soon become a standard and has motivated me to learn.

NinjaLifestyle YouTube Intro

I watch a lot of YouTube and to keep myself busy after graduation I wanted to design an intro for one of my favourite underrated channels. NinjaLifestyle. With 190k+ subscribers and very little design skills I felt it was a perfect opportunity for someone like myself to step in.

The idea came from one of my favourite tricks of his, The roley poley. I wanted to make a handmade animation from this to represent the rawness of skateboarding and individually drew out the 145 frames you see in the video.

From the intro I also developed a transition for him to use

To finalise everything I felt it was also appropriate to redesign his YouTube banner in the same style

I sent all of this to him as a thank you for all his work and he’s now going to actually use it in his uploads!

Future Makers

Future Makers is a arts and drama course for young teenagers. I collaborated with the designer of the logo to animate it, showcasing the new colour scheme and emphasising the design of spotlights.

Business card designs

It’s time to make business cards, my portfolio is online so I want it to be coherent with my site. It was an obvious choice to use the type face I created but I wanted to add some motion to it so I could take a frame from that and use it. 

Above is some examples I experimented with.

My favourite is the third one and I will develop it further with different placements and colours. It expresses movement through scale and rotation and doesn’t seem too simple or cheesy.

Fire and Lights

After a positive outcome from the projection visuals I wanted to limit myself again to any sort of light source I could find/create. Another 1 day challenge.

For this experiment I wasn’t in control of the camera. It meant the visuals were more extravagant (dangerous) but when it came to reviewing the clips it was not how I imagined. Therefore editing was very difficult. A lot of the shots were unusable because they didn’t know enough about post production, unlike in my BenStraw edit where I was in control.

Even though the outcome could have been better I am still happy with what I achieved from what I had. It also questioned my professional position in these situations...

Double-vision.info

Collaborating with course mates we looked at the addiction of technology and where it’s heading next. We all spend too much time on our phones but Virtual Reality could be worse! Owning a Google Cardboard headset allowed us to experience a very basic understanding of how it works, and we were amazed. Amazed so much we designed and developed our very own app for Google Cardboard. 

VR has its place in our modern society, the functionality is quick immersive and most importantly mobile. Not only is it used in our lives but also professionally. Practising doctors can use it to learn dangerous procedures. Psychologist can use for patients to get over any fears or anxiety and Architects can use it to showcase their designs. 

To understand how much we have achieved the the direction it’s heading in we looked at the history of technology. Technology is a extremely broad topic so we focused mainly on key moments where technology has helped us as humans develop. 

We divided the work load between us; we had a motion designer (me), web developer (Junaid Ansar) and researcher/typesetter (Jack Beel)

Ben Straw Visuals

I set up my projector alongside some mirrors to play with the visuals and reflections they produce. We were creating some nice things and then I started to play my 3D visualisations on the projector. Recording lots of footage that night I synced it with some music. 

Ben Straw is a underground techno DJ. Techno is the appropriate genre for these fast colourful graphics. Once synced and edited I emailed him what I had done and he was extremely excited and grateful, he even posted it on his FaceBook page and Instagram. 

This was a nice outcome from a quick turnaround project. I had no intentions of creating this for someone, we were just experimenting. It was also fulfilling to see some work I thought was going nowhere to being very exciting and motivating.

Bitcoin Video Game Fail..

Under a lot of wrath from the media due to links with drugs and money laundering, Bitcoin possess the technology to still be our future currency. To teach and change peoples opinions about the crytocurrency I felt it was ideal to experience it through a digital game - learning through play.

I chose Mario because it’s a game a lot of people are familiar with so the learning how to play is eliminated; plus you collect coins.

I followed a 20 hour code tutorial through Unity to programme a working Mario game. I next had to re-model all the sprites and code the word balloons to appear my text.

Unfortunately I was following a very old tutorial and due to Unity updates some of the lines were creating errors. This halted the process greatly and I had to salvage what I had left.

3D Motion Tracking Test

One of my projects I am incorporating my ideas of sustaining the historic rivers of Sheffield with 3D renders tracked onto live footage. Aimed at the council I wanted it to show examples as realistic as possible. This meant textured, shadowed and ambient occlusion. Above is a test I carried out in my room so I knew what I can/can’t do.

Gout Animation Test

I’m working with an illustration to create a animation about the ‘gentlemans disease’ gout. This is my first test, seeing if the animation moves and appears smooth. Having to stitch together photos on Photoshop then animating in After Effects. The image in the background is actually a video.

Laundry for Hair

Working for 93ft agency we were asked to animate their logo. This was a much harder job than anticipated. We had to create a skeleton of the logo then animate each part of the structure just to get the correct motion. In the video you can see our first attempt, followed by our final skeleton, which is currently being sent off to the animator. The animation will be on their website and in their cafe on screens.

3D Visuals

Fractals are very intriguing shapes and being able to control them in after effects can produce satisfying work. I had previously made a motion graphic using fractals and wanted to take it a step further by combining it with my new skill of cinema 4D.

I wanted a clean white room for the visuals to be projected on three shapes.These shapes spin round in a constant speed to represent the bass of a song which contrast the randomness of the visuals – the tune. I projected onto the background as well to reveal some of the visuals hidden by the shapes and add another edge to the visuals.
