The jaws of many marine fish protrude away from their faces when feeding. We usually don't notice this because of how fast fish feed, the full motion is completed in a few thousandths of a second.

Look At That Smile!!!

Scarus quoyi is a reef safe parrotfish that hails from the Great Barrier Reef. These bright and intelligent fish are active swimmers with a thick, muscular body, making them prized show fish for larger community reef tanks.

All parrotfish have fused teeth which continue to grow as they age. They need limestone based rocky substrates to graze on and file down their teeth. At this size they are mostly herbivorous, and may require the addition of hardened algae based prepared foods if grazing levels in aquarium do not sufficiently file down teeth.

These fish require experienced and vigilant care to ensure they stay healthy and happy in captivity. If we do not find this fish a suitable home elsewhere, we will move it into a 400 gallon reef display in our aquarium showroom.

This Lineatus wrasse will be the show fish in a large reef aquarium that we maintain after going through full quarantine. This fish was collected in Australia and was eating within minutes of going into the treatment system. It is very active and inquisitive, we can’t wait to see it in its new forever home!

Labouti Wrasse are some of the most colorful fish kept in aquariums. They communicate by flashing vivid iridescent blues, purples, greens, and yellows across their strikingly patterned and colored bodies. They are active swimmers that will quickly dart across the aquarium, so Large reef aquariums make good homes for a male and several females. When kept in this configuration, the male and the females will court with ritualistic dances, spawning rises, and flashes of bright coloration.

Humuhumunukunukuapua`a, is Hawaii’s state fish. In aquariums, these fish often have a lot of attitude. Their aggressive behavior makes them best suited for large predatory fish only systems.

Venustus Angelfish are found in deeper waters of the Indo-pacific. They are shy, but often reef safe fish that do best in peaceful well-aquascaped setups. Their vibrant coloration and thoughtful behavior are earning them popularity as show fish in many reef aquaria.

These are pink skunk clownfish. They are the easiest clownfish to harem and break the rules by doing better when kept in groups than when kept singly or in pairs. We are quarantining this group before placing them in our bubble tip anemone display.

Crosshatch Triggerfish pair has become even more friendly. These triggers are reef safe zooplanktivores with a lot of personality and intelligence.

Saddle hogfish make curious and courageous additions to large semi-aggressive FOWLR or soft coral dominated reef systems. Their teeth can be used to flip rocks in search of food and tear into the shells of invertebrates.

We conditioned this pair of Crosshatch Triggerfish for 6 weeks and they are finally ready to go into their almost 500 gallon reef tank! The lady triggerfish has taken to begging for food from all of our customers. We are sad to see them go, but happy they found a good home and loving caretakers.

Homophyllia australis, formerly classified as Scolymias, can be some of the most diversely colored and patterned corals offered in the marine ornamental trade. They are also among some of the easiest LPS corals to care for. This particular specimen has found a good home in one of our customers scolymia gardens. This is definitely the nicest one in their collection though!
