tbh my take on the whole “should batman kill the joker” thing is that batman is a volunteer gig, and bruce is allowed to have boundaries

should *someone* kill the joker? maybe, idk. that’s above my pay grade. but just bc bruce wayne is willing to shoulder the weight of the world (whether anyone actually wants him to or not) doesn’t mean we should all just accept that it belongs to him. he chooses to help in what ways he is able, the ways he can live with, and if killing is the one line he won’t cross no matter what, well, it could be worse. but he has no actual moral obligation to do any of what he’s doing, actually, and if having this one boundary firmly in place is what keeps him from having a mental breakdown and becoming the thing he swore to stop, then i say more power to him and we could honestly all stand to learn from his example

@vintagerobin you are a genius for phrasing this as victim blaming. bc yes, that is absolutely what it is. The Joker is essentially Batman's stalker and Bruce is not responsible for what he does.

Absolutely this. Midnighter being brown in and of itself isn’t the issue. The issue is DC’s character assassination of Apollo which turns their dynamic into “violent brown one” and “soft white one”. They have been slowly feminizing and softening Apollo for years. They have also been using him to perpetuate shallow gay stereotypes in the process (the rupaul bit made me so violently angry). DC literally is using every commercialize idea of being gay and going “LOOK LOOK NICE GAY MAN FUN GAY MAN ISNT HE RELATABLE GAY KIDS”. It is literally trying to commodify a type of homosexuality which DC deems as harmless. He also HAS to be ideologically subservient to the DC characters (making him a Superman fanboy and listening to Alan Scott who finger wags at him for wanting to kill Nazis???). He cannot disagree with the DC passive white liberal ideology bs in any way because otherwise he would not function in the DC comic universe (BECAUSE HE WASNT MADE FOR THAT REALITY NOR WERE ANY OF THE WILDSTORM CHARACTERS). Then there is the thing where we only see them in the pride issue now because they cant disrupt the actual universe and they are literally just selling our fucking queer identities back to us.

I also don’t think it is a coincidence that they started making Midnighter (ambiguously) brown AFTER they had established Apollo as just the nice pacifist (white) one. Weird how they only thought of making Midnighter brown when he was standing next to someone far kinder and more mild huh?

I have a lot more to say on this but I want to organize my thoughts before i rage post anymore v.v I am also actively writing an academic paper for a conference on DC’s ideological dominion over the Wildstorm characters under their DC label so yeah
