I had the pleasure of taking graduation photos for my good friend and teammate, Meredith. Notre Dame’s 2013 Commencement Weekend was full of all kinds of crazy, and this was by far my favorite moment. Not only is her family super photogenic and beautiful, but they are also sweet and welcoming - exactly what I needed after the longest week ever! Congratulations to Baby Mere for this milestone! I’m so glad I got to capture a few seconds of it for you <3

An Evening with OvidiuRo

Earlier this month, I had the pleasure of photographing my first private fundraiser for the OvidiuRo Association. Held in NYC's historical Greenwich Village in the home of New York Times bestselling author Andrew Solomon, the fundraiser was a smash hit for the Association.

OvidiuRo seeks to provide crucial early education for every Romanian child. Foundresses Leslie Hawke and Prof. Maria Gheorghiu operate under the philosophy that "Early education has the highest return on your investment against any other means of combating poverty."  It is the Association's hope that OviduRo will transform early education in public policy, as an educated workforce is vital to the economic future of Romania.

Foundress Leslie Hawke's son, actor Ethan Hawke (pictured above with author Andrew Solomon), hosted the evening's events, which included a riveting classical piano performance, a mock talk show, a brief history of the Association, and a moving interview with Andrew Solomon on life, willpower, family, and the solidarity of humanity that can be found in the darkest times.

What a wonderful evening to be a part of!

Via Flickr: Each Spring, the selection process for the newest members of the Notre Dame cheer team begins. For the girls trying out, the screening process begins early. Any Notre Dame or Saint Mary's girl is welcome at the initial tryout. Current female cheerleaders teach the "newbies", or "tryouts", the choreography to one fight song and two cadences. Two by two, newbies are called in to perform before a panel of judges. At the end of the day, a lits of about a dozen names is posted of the girls who survived first cuts. The names posted on this list, as well as any boys interested in trying out, are invited to clinics - a three week period during which newbies are basically part of the ND cheer team. Every day, they practice with the current cheerleaders from 5-7pm, learning how to stunt and perfect the dances. At the end of clinics, everyone participates in tryouts. Newbies choose a cheerleader to stunt with in the hopes of making the team, while current team members stunt with partners to determine which squad they are placed on. The day after tryouts, the list of next year's team members and their respective partners is posted. Both new and returning cheerleaders are assigned to a squad - green, blue, or gold in ascending order according to skill level. These photos capture some of the highs and lows of those three weeks of clinics, just before tryouts. It is my hope to convey the complexity of the situation and spectrum of emotions experienced by all involved. Hopefully it will give you a different perspective on Notre Dame Cheerleading, and those hoping to be a part of the team! Lucky me, to have spent 45+ hours and 2663 miles with @mcgu1rk , the best person to ever roadtrip across America with. $450 Vegas bucks, 9 days, 9 states, 8 CDs, 7 postcards, 6 hotels, 4 nights with friends and family (@maepajitas @l_amezquita @cthomp11), 3 breweries, deserts, and Hawaiian shirts, too many vines/instagrams, a night of camping, a lightening storm, a tornado warning, a roach motel, a meal for drag queens, a world wonder, a night of hopeless despair, a UFO sighting, a drive across the Rockies, and one grand trip across the United States later, I am the luckiest betch in America to call McGiggles my best friend in the whole wide world.
