I am homesick for a place I am not sure even exists. One where my heart is full. My body loved. And my soul understood.

Duane Michals - Many Moons, 1989
He writes: When I was a little boy, it seemed to me that there were many moons. My grandmother had a moon, as did my other grandmother. And we had a moon over our backyard too. My best friend Art’s moon shone through his window as he slept late at night. When we visited relatives in Chicago, they also had a moon. Everywhere we went, I would look up and see yet another one. Then one night when as we returned from grandmother’s house, I watched out of the rear window of the car and saw her moon follow me home. My grandmother’s moon was our moon. There was only one moon. Now the sky seemed so empty.
