"I don’t really care." The blond sighed, tugging at his own scarf. Where the hell is he anyway? And how did he even get here in the first place? "Hey, bastard, the hell am I? You better tell me."
"Whatever." Palom leaned back against the tree. Twirling his staff in hand, he chose to ignore the other for about five seconds before looking to him. "Mm? You don't know? You're in Mysidia, the village I lead. You're standing before a prodigal mage, you know."
"Bite me." The summon spirit huffed, already annoyed with the stranger. "Bastard… " Was all he mumbled under his breath. "You know what, you’re wasting my time."
"Yeah, yeah." He leaned back. "Actually, it's the other way around. I could be doing my job and teaching the other mages. But noooo, you had to come and bother me."

"Now aren’t you just sunshine and rainbows."
"The hell is that supposed to mean?" Ratatosk blinked, staring at the other male’s head. "…The fuck is that?" He bluntly pointed to whatever the hell was in his hair.
"Sarcasm." Palom inclined his head to the right a little. "The hell do you want to know, huh? Ain't gotta tell you."

"Now aren't you just sunshine and rainbows."
"Yeah. Don’t ever petrify yourself.. Nasty side effects." Palom rubbed his arm, giving a nervous chuckle. "So, what do I owe this visit to, mm?"
"Petrify? I’m afraid I don’t get it." The Dragoon preferred not to stop about this issue but to proceed. "The name’s Kain. If you joined Cecil, how weird he didn’t mention about myself."
"I turned myself to stone along with Porom back when we were kids." He said, waving a hand to dismiss the subject. "Yeah, I know. Cecil said something about you in passing. One of those off-screen moments, you know?"
atramagus started following you
"One of the twins." Kain said in a low voice but loud enough be heard from him.
"Kain, right? Cecil’s friend?" Palom asked, noting the comment from the older man. "Never got to meet you."
"It sounds fair: you were still a child when I saw you in passing."
"Yeah. Don't ever petrify yourself.. Nasty side effects." Palom rubbed his arm, giving a nervous chuckle. "So, what do I owe this visit to, mm?"

"Edge is surprisingly a good king: he’s different now, all he needs now is to find himself a queen and give Elban the royal heir the kingdom is looking for. And Edward should do the same." Cecil crossed his arms in front of his chest and chuckled.
"He never directly asked for it but he’s… gifted when it comes to jumps and spears. And he seems to have a deep bond with Kain… The Irony, mh?" He shook his head. "I’d love to. And, of course, you’d be welcome in Baron as well. Rosa’s extremely fond on sweets, she’d love to offer you a selection of Baron’s most excellent pastries. And- you could always pretend to pay us a visit to have a talk with the castle’s mages…"
"With how Edge seems to be, I kind of doubt he'll be settling down any time soon. Someone's gotta quell that fire..." He thought for a moment. "Edward too? ..Damn, I can't offer Porom to them both." There went his plan. And here he thought he'd be able to get his sister a boyfriend so she'd finally have a chance to settle down herself. A small chuckle came from him at that. He wasn't being serious.
"That is ironic.." Palom looked thoughtful for a minute. "Ah, I don't usually.. go into Baron itself most of the time. The outskirts, usually." Only to pay respects, that is. "But I'll pay a visit some time. I promise. I can't pass up the chance to at least get out of the village once in a while when I'm not swamped.. And I think Porom's the girl for the 'talking to the mages' job.."

"One of the twins." Kain said in a low voice but loud enough be heard from him.
"Kain, right? Cecil's friend?" Palom asked, noting the comment from the older man. "Never got to meet you."
"No. Not really." He shook his head slowly. "It makes me feel horrible, like I’m getting nauseated. I guess it’s a repressed memory or something from my childhood that’s making me react this way."
It was either that or his lingering memories of three years ago. What if.. she’d survived back then? What would be different?
"It must be a bad feeling for you, isn’t it?" She came closer a bit as she gently rubbed his back, her face hosting a soft smile. "Everything will go quiet, don’t worry. Bad memories can’t be erased, but your brain won’t make you remember them during your day, unless you meet something that will force you to."
"Yeah.." He murmured, before realizing she was touching him. Palom bit his lower lip hard to keep himself from freaking in front of her. She knew him from childhood... He'd have to stop himself from freaking out. "..I know.. it's just.. I.. h-have.. a-a tenancy to-- Oh for the Goddess' sake!" He bolted back a few feet, shaking his head. "Rosa, please, don't come too close to me!"
"Thank you. And- maybe it’s something so silly you’d never think about it until you accidentally notice something is out of place. When Edge offered me a book about Ninjutsu I never realized few chapters were out of place in the index… and the first letter of them actually made a full sentence." The woman rolled her eyes with an annoyed sigh "Anway, that’s what I mean when I say maybe you just missed something.."
"Maybe." She was… apparently interested in the topic "It’d be interesting to see the magical inclination of a child born from a white and a black mage. If you think about it, white magic users and black maages are more inclined to look for partners with their same power, just look at rosa and Cecil. And I’m not going to talk too much about summoners, even if we’re inclined to black magic. I’ll just let you know incest was quite common in my family to keep the blood pure." she paused for a moment, her attention now focused on their surroundings "I’d actually like to have enough time to study the whole thing." Anyway, she wasn’t planning to write/read books or sit down in a castle with other mages, it was just a simple curiosity. "Indeed. Such a unpleasant experience…" She was less wild and, well, being forced to adopt another ‘little summoner’ she had to learn how to behave herself in the human world. At least she had the opportunity to be completely herself in her land "I have nothing against it and, even if my parents’d be against it, I think they wouldn’t stop you as long as you keep your visit inside the main village’s borders. Stilll, are you sure? The Feymarch’s time flow can have… unpleasant side effects."
"..Wow, ninjutsu books do that? Guess I gotta start looking harder.." He said with a grin. Of course.. that would be ideal for him. He'd study harder and keep looking for whatever it was that was hidden inside that book Porom had given him. "I probably did. I'll look over it later."
"Heh.. Not so much." He pointed out. "The magical inclination of Cecil, formerly, was dark magic before he became a Paladin. It shifted with him. Even though he's a white mage now, he was formerly one like me. Opposites attract, though I wonder what would happen if two that did have the same alignment got together." It was no question that he was thinking of what would happen if a Black Mage got together with their own alignment. "Eh, whatever floats your boat, to be honest. Traditions run deep. Sometimes it's hard to break them."
"Well, when Porom gets up, I'll have her bring a copy of the book to you. I'd probably freak out if I got too close.." He shuddered lightly at the thought and pushed it away about five seconds later. Palom had to think over her words, though. He knew this, she'd told him last time. The side effects, he could deal with. "I know, Rydia. You told me last time we went there before the whole fiasco with that weird chick with the summons. I'm ready for it. I can handle side effects."

"I know. And It’s indeed reassuring to know things are fine even outside Baron’s walls." The king wanted to add something but didn’t know if it was appropriate or not asking directly for his conditions: he never had a deep bond with the twins, they were just good friends and comrades he manages to see now and then…
"Everything’s fine. Ceodore seems inclined to follow Kain’s steps-" he commented with a bitter grin "and I spend most of my time lost between pointless politics. It’s quite… repetitive but reassuring at the same time."
"The only thing I'd probably worry about is Edge getting his cowl stuck in a piece of wood or something." Palom said with a chuckle, putting his hands in his pockets. There was something on Cecil's mind.. Palom could see it on his face, but didn't dare inquire. Due to the two of them not being as close as Cecil was with the others, Palom didn't think it right to do so. After all, it was probably an invasion of privacy.
"Kid wants to become a Dragoon, eh? I don't know what to say about that.." He barely even knew Ceodore.. All he knew was that he was Cecil's son.. that was about it. "Still lost in politics? Wow, I feel for you. Maybe sometime you can come down to Mysidia and have a cup of tea or something."
And I return. The mixture to the ice cream is cooling in the fridge right now. Let's hope I did it right.
