When you prevent opposing counsel from committing malpractice by alerting him to the fact that he had his client sign the wrong draft of a settlement after she asked for a provision to be removed, that is inconsequential to your client and his position.
When other attorneys ask what I do as an immigration attorney other than fill out forms.
Thanks Submitter.
When a brand new, just minted, government attorney states that I must have a weak case because I have to much documentation to prove presence in a cancellation of removal case.
When the IJ grants a continuance for PD but then proceeds to give my client a lecture on the fact that since there was an improper tax deduction on his 1994 taxes he would unlikely grant cancellation of removal and my client is the reason for the government shutdown.
When the only way I can get the cable guy to leave my house is by saying, "Sir under SC Code Section 16-11-620, if you refuse to leave this property after my warnings, you will be guilty of criminal trespass, and our next meeting will be in court".
When I have set up an appointment with a client on Wednesday and he randomly shows up at my office on Monday, just to chat!
When I am appearing telephonically and because of the time difference I am at my office waiting at 6 a.m.
When the senior partner makes a mistake and sends me into a master to ask for bond, without the file, and the Judge tells me my client is neither admitted nor paroled in.
When DHS attorneys and ICE officers ignore my voice mails and never call back.
Thanks Submitter!
When you find out your secretary had a Judge on hold for 5 minutes.
When I accidentally answer the office phone at 5:10 p.m. on a Friday.
When I am waiting for the judge to call for a telephonic hearing and I am given a four hour block in which they may call.
When a client calls me from an out of state detention facility and tells me, even though I have a signed order that I may appear telephonically, that I need to be there in court physically on Tuesday, He does not care what it cost.
It is an extra $1000.00 but I get to see Dallas.
(Thanks Submitter! Have fun in Dallas)
When a client's fiance hires me, begs me to get him out and I think I have a chance because she is a USC and she tells me he has only had one speeding ticket. Then I call his ICE detention officer and get his NTA, he has two felony convictions, two parole violations, and a ticket for furnishing a minor with alcohol.
When opposing counsel asks for child support in excess of my client's undisputed income!
When a DHS attorney calls me back after three days of unanswered voicemails and tells me he may be willing to get my detained client paroled in after CBP issued an NTA.
