[image ID: a horizontal banner image. There is a Caucasian hand taking up the right of the banner, the hand is palm up and has streaks of gold paint on the palm and fingers. The rest of the background is dark with blurry paintbrushes vaguely visible in the middle. At the top and bottom are line dividers in a yellow-gold colour. They are dotted lines with a circle and a dot in the middle, the circle and dot are the alchemical symbol for gold. In uneven block letters on the left side in the same yellow-gold colour are the words âby their own folliesâ. End ID]

There are many fools who chase after gold, and for good reason. Gold is not the rarest metal, but it would be a lie to say it wasnât one of the most beautiful. There is a quality to it, like captured sunlight, that draws people to it like moths to a flame. Itâs not unthinkable that people would fight and bargain and bleed for such a substance.
Personally, Oliver considers gold to be rather boring. Chemically speaking, itâs relatively uninteresting, being one of the least reactive elements, occurring on its own in a simple, solid form. Itâs pretty, yes, Oliver canât deny that, but on the whole? Boring as fuck.
Itâs not Oliverâs intention to give himself the golden touch, but when his experimentation with alchemy goes wrong, the effects of his mistake ripple out, leaving their marks on the people around him. Mark and Alex are trying their best to help fix things, but as matters spiral out of control, consequences begin to pile up.
Essentially: a mythological au where Oliver is in the vague role of Midas including many accidents, a kiss, and a tragedy.
