Thy Favourite Gay: Intro to Me

Hello! ‘Tis I, Thomas, AKA thyfavouritegay here on Tumblr. My blog is... sort of (completely) a mess of things, so I write this to be a me masterpost. In this post, I will be going over numerous things, including: fandoms I am in/will interact with, some triggers and DNIs, as well as some fun facts. This, I predict, will be terrible to write as well as read, so I suppose I should get started.

Fun facts:

I am a mild grammar/spelling nerd, and although I am trying to not to bug people with corrections these days, I will talk in what my friends (both real-life and online) call a “Shakespearian”, “old English-ish”, and “fancy as fuck” tone quite often. I like calling it my “heretically incorrect mocking of old English”, but I’ll take what I can get.

I am genderfluid, omniromantic, and asexual. To me, this is to say that my gender changes and shifts---which is why I say “default to they/them” instead of just “they/them” because I don’t want to be seen as bearing unchanging pronouns, I can feel romantic attraction to all genders in different ways and attraction ratios (like, male:female:enby umbrella, how often to I catch feelings for each) but do not feel comfortable using the labels bi or pan because of the assumptions and biases behind them, and I feel no attraction to anyone sexually. If you have questions, feel free to ask me (not because I am queer and have any manner of obligation to explain myself, but because I enjoy rambling)!

I have way too many OCs, help. Also too many fictional worlds.

I am bilingual! I am fluent in English and French (my native language is English though), and am also learning Norwegian and Japanese.

the fact that there is no sadfic about andrea or milton boyle brooklyn 99 on ao3 is a travesty

okok so maybe i need to elaborate. first some facts.

so andrea and milton boyle are the boyle cousins who are like a bit of a black sheep for being traditionally handsome instead of looking like the rest of the boyles. however andrea still participates in family events and has just as much mervyns-only fashion as the rest of them. but despite all this he is openly treated like lesser-than due to him looking so much different than the others, and is fully aware of this (when given a backhanded insult and a half-hearted apology, he responds with "i know what i am.") and milton is openly called a "troll" and insulted for his looks, but still gives the typical "i love you"s.

SO. milton and andrea have very different faces and head shapes than the rest of the boyles, and as such get far less love and are ostracised within the family

HERE'S THE THING. the episode where andrea appears directly states that the reason all the boyle cousins look the same is due to the coddling and care received from the family in their youth.

THIS GOES TO REASON that the cause of milton and andrea boyle's facial differences (this is so odd to say referring to them being blankly attractive) is that they were neglected/not cared for and coddled/ignored in their youth by their family. and it is due to that neglect that they are visibly different and are outsiders and as such are ostracised and neglected within the family even in their adult lives.

milton got away. and can bond with gina over the feeling of being an outsider within the boyles. he's independant and happy and living his life despite his lack of familial love

andrea is still there. in the back of the crowd, cheering for mervyns, and participating in every family activity. but because of that he's painfully aware of his differences. and he himself is grave about it. blaming himself for not receiving his family's love both now and then.

or maybe it's a comedy about cops and neither of these characters or plot points are ever used again and it's really not that serious.

You know what Artemis Fowl doesn’t get enough credit for? Seamlessly blending fantasy and science fiction without one eating the other alive.

Most media picks a lane. You’re either in a world of dragons and spells, or you’re riding a spaceship powered by neon blue lights. And when stories do try to blend both, it usually comes off like one genre is just cosplaying as the other. “Oh, it’s not magic, it’s just tech so advanced it looks like magic.” Cool. Sure. But that’s not a blend. That’s sci-fi wearing a glittery hat and calling itself a wizard.

But Artemis Fowl? Artemis Fowl gave us elves flying with mechanical wings, centaurs programming surveillance satellites, and also dwarves unhinging their jaws and eating through solid rock. It didn’t strip the fantasy creatures of their mythic weirdness to make them technologically advanced, and it didn’t simplify the tech to keep the magic pure.

And what makes it work is that both sides of the worldbuilding—the magic and the machinery—are treated with equal weight, equal logic, and equal absurdity. There’s internal consistency. There are rules. There's friction. The LEP doesn’t just use magic to solve every problem—they rely on tactics, training, strategy, and yes, a whole lot of gadgets.

The fantasy elements don’t feel like a storytelling shortcut, and the science doesn’t feel like cold technobabble.

I making a post when I said that it's a shame that Garak's substance abuse doesn't come up again when they decide to revisit his mental health problems in later seasons but then I remembered the track record that the trek writers have with writing about substance dependencies and actually I'm glad they stay awayed from this topic lmao
