My first lesson: / Beauty can bite.
— Yusef Komunyakaa, from “Praising Dark Places,” Neon Vernacular: New and Selected Poems (via lifeinpoetry)
𝚂𝚃. 𝙱𝙴𝙽𝙴𝙳𝙸𝙲𝚃𝚂 , 𝟷𝟿𝟿𝟼 .
having met when only children , red shoes uniting them , the girls quickly came to call each other sisters . exceedingly different personalities , yet severely loyal . it wasn’t surprising that they became restless , no longer wanting to be confined by the rules set upon them by the nuns . they made a decision . what better time than now to rebel ?
it started of simple , stylizing their uniforms , voicing their opinions , letting their real personalities shine through & eventually they became known as ——- the scarlets . their red heels granting them the name . some students followed their example , but others were heavily against their ways , vocalizing this strongly . the girls endured , their friendship offering the confidence they needed . they were like a fire blazing through the school .
𝚂𝚃. 𝚃𝙷𝙴𝙾𝙳𝙾𝚁𝙴 , 𝟷𝟿𝟿𝟼 .
one night , their brother school extended an invitation to a party . the girls snuck out , not only seeing this as the ultimate form of rebellion , but also each having their own reasons to attend . the night didn’t go as planned . andrew astley , one of the boys attending st. theodore set his eyes on one of the girls , making a bet with his friends that he could get her into his bed . fortunately , catherine ‘ cathy ‘ craven figured it out before anything more than a kiss happened , but the damage had been done .
the other girls swore revenge , convincing their friend that he deserved to be punished for what he did , so he would think twice before doing it to another girl ever again . they lured andrew to the woods , but their plan didn’t quite go as planned .
𝚃𝙷𝙴 𝚆𝙾𝙾𝙳𝚂 , 𝟷𝟿𝟿𝟼 .
hunting him through the forest was only meant to scare him . he wasn’t meant to stumble & hit his head against a rock . it didn’t matter . he still ended up dead . the scarlets , while shocked , vowed to never let anyone find out . they buried him deep in the woods & went back to their lives .
unfortunately for them , death follows . guilt gnaws .
