thoughts on this au below (designs are subject to change)
Hiccup would be an Aerospace engineer, based on how he created a tail prosthetic for Toothless in the first film. I also debated making him more of a zoologist and Toothless is the engineer but Hiccup as the engineer made a lot more sense!
Hiccup was the head engineer of Project Hail Mary who was brought on for his work on NASA rockets and taking huge risks and his refusal to listen to really any authority that got many rockets blown up. Which lead him to being a physics middle school teacher and getting picked up by Stratt. Hiccup gets sent up to the Hail Mary as the 3rd option after something goes wrong back on earth that kills the original 2 engineers. Hiccup was sent up there with Astrid as the pilot/commander and Fishlegs as the scientist who both died from the multi year coma.
I don’t think Hiccup is a coward but he still doesn’t want to die. So him talking to Stratt and getting amnesia’d is very similar to how it played out in the book.
Hiccup ends up feeling very hopeless when he realizes that the entire human race survival is on his shoulders and he’s just an engineer! He has no microbiology knowledge. And meeting Toothless a geode Eridian Biologist felt like a shining ray of hope in Hiccups despair.
both Hiccup and Toothless lose their respective limbs from the Time Go Fishing incident. The intense gravity causes the chair Hiccup is in to crush and destroy his leg. When Toothless gets out of his xenonite ball his entire weight lands onto 1 of his limbs and his fragile skin cracks and tears apart.
when Hiccup finally wakes up he ignores that he is missing one of his lower legs and desperately crawls to Toothless where he spends the entire time that Toothless is out making him a prosthetic. And later Toothless returns in kind but with a much more shoddier prosthetic out of xenonite (he tried his best and Hiccup appreciates it all the same he’s just so happy to have something made from xenonite)
Originally Toothless was going to be an obsidian eridian but I decided to go with a geode so we can have a pop of color similar to Toothless’s eyes and the exposed crystals is what lead Hiccup to naming him Toothless.
Hiccup is getting hit with my aromantic beam. It’s the rules 💚🤍🩶🖤
but yea that’s my au! Let me know what you think, I don’t know what I’m gonna call this au. I’ll just call it HTTYD X PHM AU for now
