The sudden flare of heat on the bare skin of Hawks’ thigh interupts his tirade and forces a sudden and embarrassing chwirk out of the Hero, immediately followed by several quieter, more muffled noises and an attempt to get out of Dabi’s grasp.

He can feel the skin tingling, and he knows there’s gonna be a perfectly shaped hand print there for the next few days, bright red against the pale skin of his inner thigh. The thought has Hawks more than a little lightheaded, so he scrabbles to keep the dazed look out of his eyes by hopefully drawing attention elsewhere.

He claps a hand over his mouth, eyes wide. He’s made some weird noises in bed before, yeah, but nothing quite so birdlike, and definitely not with Dabi. He doesn’t even really have to feign the embarrassment - he knows those sounds are unattractive, inhuman - but he he puts on a bit of a show, just in case.

      “You didn’t hear that.”

It’s bad enough he’s developing a thing for heat - if Dabi finds out he’s also got a thing for burns he’ll never hear the end of it. Better to be mocked for some harmless noises than a kink that demonstrates exactly how far down the rabbit hole the Number Two Hero has fallen.

There’s something about the way the words drip from Dabi’s mouth that sets alarm bells ringing in Tomura’s head, so self-assured and calm while Tomura feels like he’s about to vibrate right out of his skin. The room is too hot and his skin too sensitive - he can feel the dry patches of his skin catching on the rough fabric under him every time he moves and it just makes everything feel so much more.

Dabi’s looking at him like there’s nothing out of the ordinary, and Tomura wants to wipe the floor with his face but he can’t do much more than squirm because there’s too much sensation.

Dry eyes roll in their sockets as Shigaraki tries to keep a straight face. Sure, he might find the guy kind of a pain but laughing directly in Dabi’s face is something even he’s not about to risk. Deliberately antagonizing one of their strongest members is a poor demonstration of leadership, after all.

That doesn’t mean he’s gonna keep his mouth shut though, so he tips his head back to look at Dabi, unimpressed.

      “Are you always this dramatic or am I getting special treatment?”

The guy sounds like every cheap villain from those awful PSAs on TV, and Shigaraki feels it’s only right he let Dabi know his terrible dialogue is ruining whatever image he’s trying to create.

      “Shit -”

A pained hiss escapes chapped lips as fingers twist in his hair, pulling sharply at the sensitive skin of his scalp and forcing him to look up from his phone. Dabi has his fingers tangled securely in pale strands, pulling steadily and with enough force to yank Shigaraki off balance. He drops his phone with a clatter and grips the edge of the counter to keep himself from stumbling backwards and into Dabi’s chest.

Quick as a flash Shigaraki reaches up his other hand, thin digits wrapping around a scarred wrist, one left hovering above the warped flesh like a threat.

For a moment, there’s silence. It’s just the two of them in the room, locked in a stalemate. Dabi radiates heat against Shigaraki’s back, and the warm hand in his hair makes the sensitive skin of his scalp throb. 

Teeth bared in a feral smile, he twists in an attempt to break free, barely managing to muffle the absolutely stupid urge to whine at the pain the movement causes. He tightens his grip on Dabi’s wrist in retaliation and snarls.

       “Get your hand out of my goddamn hair or I’ll take your arm.”

      “Haaah. That’s a heavy question... I’ve got no idea, man!”

Even as he speaks, the carefree grin slides from Hawks’ face. Trust Dabi to make him think about the ugly things he tries so hard to ignore on a daily basis. It never fails to catch the hero off guard, the way the villain manages to ask the exact questions Hawks doesn’t want to think about.

They always seem to hit way too close to home, and he’s never prepared for them.

Still, he needs a better answer than I don’t know - He’s not really feeling like pulling out the burn ointment tonight and playing along with Dabi’s weirdly invasive questions seems more or less harmless. If nothing else, at least he can spin it in a way that’ll maybe help him out later.

      “Alright, alright. Honestly though, I always thought it was a lost cause - If you’re so hell-bent on destruction, the path there’s gonna change you. Doesn’t matter how righteous or deserved it is, making the choice to destroy involves collateral damage. You gotta be willing to accept that when you make that choice. Knowing when you do that you can look the other way if you have to, that changes things.

      Don’t get me wrong, I still think some things - some people - don’t deserve anything better than complete annihilation. Just... there are consequences, yeah?”

Great, before this Hawks had been looking forward to an easy patrol and some greasy takeout - now he’s gonna be having some kind of moral crisis all night thanks to Dabi of all people.

That always ruins his appetite.

shig has Issues with physical contact (skin on skin specifically) stemming from his memories of touch = destruction

shig is just. always cold. always. his circulation is shitty, it is what it is. he either doesn’t move much to conserve heat or he fidgets constantly in an attempt to generate it/ distract himself
