mavericksteelâ:
Maverick was seated at a table that was becoming increasingly familiar. The food was great, the service was quick, and it didnât hurt that he got to see a certain someone almost every time that he came in. Glancing up, he caught sight of the girl and offered her a smile. She wasnât the one serving him that day, but that didnât mean he couldnât engage in some what, right? âHey, having a good shift?â
Audrey had finished up her shift and was getting ready to head home when she noticed the boy, it was becoming less and less of a shock to see him at the restaurant since they met. She kind of hoped he wouldâve at the very least asked her out by now but seeing him frequently at work was cute in itâs own way. âHey,â she greeted him. She sat down across from him and stole a fry off his plate. âYeah I just finished up, wasnât too bad thankfully. What about you? You get stood up again?âÂ

mavericksteel:
âYeah, actually. I like my job a lot. Itâs something that I can do well. And something that keeps me pretty busy a lot of the time which is nice. I donât like sitting still for very long.â He mused with a shrug. âHow about you? Do you like working here?â Maverick questioned with a kind smile as a waitress brought over the drinks, taking a sip of his iced tea. âNo, no. I was never in a gang. Most of the people that I work with were though or still are.â
âI get that, when we have lull periods I sometimes want to shoot myself in the face,â Audrey said before giving her coworker a smile and taking her coke from them. âI donât hate it though, itâs just something to do to have extra cash so I donât have to ask my dad for it all the time.â
mavericksteel:
âIâm a construction worker. My mom got me into it.â Maverick answered with a smile. âSo I work for my aunt pretty much. Sheâs got this uhâŠbusiness program that she runs to help people that were in gangs or want to leave that life.â
âDo you like it?â Audrey asked. She knew a lot of people werenât into their jobs, just did it to make ends meet. âWere you in a gang?âÂ
mavericksteel:
âIs anything actually real?â He joked before shrugging. âBut yeah, thatâs my name. And thereâs a bunch of Steels in LAâŠbig family.â That much was true, he had tons of cousins because his grandparents had adopted tons of kids and their kids seemed to follow suit. âThatâs always good. My day was good. Hot and sweaty, but good.â
âWow- trying to get all philosophical on me?â Audrey asked with a chuckle. âWow- itâs only me and my dad, so I canât relate to that.â It never really did bother her being an only child, it meant not sharing her father with anyone. âWhat do you do for work anyway?â
mavericksteel:
âNice to meet you, Audrey.â Maverick said with a grin, holding out his hand to the girl. âMaverick Steel.â He said, despite the fact that she already knew his first name. âHow was your shift?â
She shook his hand and almost let out a laugh when she heard his full name. âIs that for real?â She asked taking her hand back and just letting lay on the table now. âMy shift was alright, went by pretty smoothly so I have no complaints. How was your day?â
mavericksteel:
âAwesome.â Maverick said with a smile, appreciating the fact that she was willing to hang out with him for a bit. He hadnât been expecting her to say yes to it was definitely a pleasant surprise.
Audrey put in their orders and then went to clock out and change into her street clothes. She tried to move quick so she wasnât going to keep the boy waiting. "Hey,â she said once she returned to the table. She sat down across from him and flashed another smile. âIâm Audrey by the way- I realize I didnât say that before.â
mavericksteel:
âThanks. I appreciate it. Well it and the whole relaying of the message thing.â Maverick offered a smile and then let out a breath. âMaybe Iâll see you around.â He paused after his words, scratching lightly at his arms. âUnless you maybe wanna sit or something?â
She was getting ready to walk away when she heard the invitation to sit down. She didnât have anything to do now, plus the boy had just been stood up. âYeah, sure, Iâll just put in your order and my own and Iâll be right back,â she said with a smile before heading to the back.
mavericksteel:
âWell, more mad then I already am.â Maverick joked with a smirk as he crossed his arms over his chest. âUh yeah Iâll have some lettuce, onions, tomato, and ketchup please.â
Audrey let out a chuckle and finished writing up his order. âWell, Iâll put your order in, someone else will  bring it to you. My shift is over now.â
mavericksteel:
He chuckled softly and then nodded in agreement. âGuess youâre right. If she couldnât handle ten minutes then our relationship wouldnât have gone far anyway.â He furrowed his eyebrows thoughtfully and then nodded. âIâll get a glass of Iced Tea and a burger please.â
âNope, and then you wouldâve been driven mad,â Audrey said before tucking her rag away into one of the apron pockets ad pulling out a little pad to write his order on. âAnything on he burger?â
mavericksteel:
Maverick glanced down at his watch with a sigh and shook his head. âIâm late by ten minutes and I told her itâd probably happen. My shifts arenât set in stone. Ridiculous.â He looked back up and shot a bit of a smile over at the girl. âSorry, not that you need an explanation or anything. Just frustrating.â
Audrey gave a light shrug, she too thought it was kind of silly but some people were a little nutty. âSome people are incredibly impatient, you can take it as dodging a bullet,â she said with a soft smile. âCan I get you anything anyway?â
mavericksteel:
âSorry, I know Iâm all sweaty and stuff. I just got off of work and I didnât have time to head home to shower before meeting you here. Didnât want to be the ass that showed up late.â
âOh- not me, uhm- you must be Maverick,â Audrey said starting to wipe down a table next to him. âThe girl I guess you were supposed to meet was a lot less patient. She muttered something about never doing online dating and told me to tell you if you show up that youâre an ass.â
