"No! It’s…" Benson sat up again and looked out the passenger window. He liked Audrey. A lot. Like, a lot. But he never thought about asking her on a date. Their relationship wasn’t difficult. They were pretty flexible when it came to hanging out and where to go, and their likes and interests were close to same.

They had a great relationship. But they weren’t in a relationship. Again, he never even thought about asking her out on an actual date, and that was bad. If anything, he didn’t want to be stuck in a friend zone like Mordecai. He was very open when it came to honesty, but to ask the girl you like out on a date, or even say you like her as more than friends was really difficult. Wait, ‘it doesn’t have to be’? Was Audrey considering…? “You mean you would if I asked you?" Benson turned back to her, blinking in curiosity.

She looked over to him. "Well...yeah, I would but only if you want to..." She was blushing and feeling like an idiot.

She really liked Benson. It had taken her a lot of courage to ask him to the party and was almost heart-broken when he almost didn't come. Every time she saw him, he stomach started twisting in knots.

Why can't I just tell him that I like him? She sighed quietly to herself.

"Perfect!" He chuckled when her stomach growled. He wouldn’t blame her. Working hard always made people hungry, and he was hungry himself. “If I’m making you hungry I guess it’s a good thing I’m treating you."

“No, no it’s fine. I…" Wait, what? Date? Benson blinked and he slumped in his seat a bit, a tinged of rosy pink appearing on his face. “D-date? I… it’s… err."

"I-I mean, it doesn't have to be if you don't want..." She goes red and stares out the windshield.

She kept driving and hoped Benson would break the awkward silence.

An evening without hearing the voices of Mordecai and Rigby would be nice, but that wasn’t the reason why Benson had something else in mind. “Wait," he climbed in after her, putting on his seat belt while his bag found a spot by his feet.

“I’ve got a better idea." He smiled, “Go home, drop off your stuff and meet me outside. I know this great Chinese restaurant that you’ll love! My treat." It was nice to spend time with Audrey again. The last time Benson recalled scheduling a get together with his neighbour was the party, and that was a long time ago.

"Ooh I love chinese food!" Her stomach started to rumble thinking about it. Embarrassed she said, "Sorry...I skipped lunch and you're making me hungry." She laughed and headed toward the apartment complex.

"Are you sure? I can help pay its not a problem," she asked. "Unless, ya know, its a date or something," she half-teased to see his reaction.

"You mean Margaret and Eileen? Yeah, I know those two." He followed after her, “They serve really good food there, why did you ask?"

"I thought it would be a good place to go to. Like we can walk there when we get home." She gets in and starts up the car. "Although, Mordecai and Rigby might be there, so I'm not sure if you want to deal with them."

Benson shook his head, “No no, it’s fine. I just sent it in yesterday so it won’t be done for another week. That’s what happens when you lend things to Mordecai and Rigby."

He rubbed the back of his head, "… But if you’re still offering that ride, maybe we can go for a stroll after we get home? Just us, walking… umm, maybe we could grab some coffee?" He chuckled.

She blushes. "That sounds nice, just a chance to talk, we don't get many opportunities to do that."

She opens her door and asks, "Have you ever been to that little coffee shop with the robin and the mole? They have some of the best sandwiches."

"No really, it’s okay." He said, waving at her to not worry about it. “And yes, I do have a car… but it’s at the dealership right now. I keep trusting the wrong people to drive it and it gets trashed all the time."

He sighs, thinking about a few of his coworkers. Benson blinked at Audrey when she offered him a ride, “What? Are you sure? I can always walk home, you know."

"I'm guessing you mean Mordecai and Rigby?" She laughs, remembering the party.

She waves him off. "No, its fine. Just show me the way to the dealership and you can take your car home." She heads towards her car and says, "Hop in!"

But instead of getting angry, Benson was happy to see his next door neighbour. He smiled as Audrey approached him, “I’m fine, don’t worry about it!" He chuckled, “It’s good to see you, Audrey. Did you just get out of work?"

She beamed at him. "Its good to see you too! Yeah, I just got off work, I was just about to go home and relax before I almost killed you, haha." She rubbed the back of her neck, embarrassed.

"Hey, don't you have a car? Do you need a ride somewhere?"

It was another typical day of dealing with his slacking employees Mordecai and Rigby, but the only difference was that nothing of the ordinary actually happened. They weren’t teleported to another planet, or asked to do an Eggscellent challenge, or deal with the new park manager. No. It was a normal day of procrastination, which was good enough for Benson. He didn’t know how many times he’d had a near death experience dodging fireballs and what not because of Mordecai and Rigby’s laziness.

But at last, it was time to go home. Packing his left over paperwork in a suitcase, Benson picked his hat off the stand and put it on before leaving the house. He said his goodbyes and proceeded out of the park, lacking his car for the day because it was at the dealership. So much work to do. He sighed and went to cross the road. It slipped his mind to look both ways and he looked up just in time as a car was to run him over. “Whoa, geez!" He jumped back just in time.

She was so distracted, she almost hit someone. "Oh shi-!" She stomped on her breaks. She lurched forward and her head slammed into the back of her seat.

She quickly got out of the car to see if anyone was hurt and saw none other than...."Benson! Are you ok? I'm so sorry! I should have been looking where I was going."

"Okay! See you on Monday!" she said to her coworker. She was so happy to finally get off work.

She hummed as she grabbed her bag and set out the door. She got into her car and headed home. Stopping at a light, she spotted the Park.

As she drove past, she craned her neck trying to see if the gumball machine Park manager was outside. What she got was a front-row view of one of the worker's hairy green belly.

She grimaced and drove on.
