Hey man, I want like sally face with Sal Fisher and Travis Phelps and I would enjoy if you made them absolutely miserable with no joy. But they're gay in love obviously except all is bad and Kenneth makes everything horrible. Maybe Travis joins the cult for fun, because yk he's bored. Thanks for your time i really appreciate it and I hope to be in contact with you soon. - 🪱

CW/TW: heavy teasing, a bit of dystopian panic
POV: Reader

Nothing can ruin your day today. Not Lux, who got you so fed up that your very first hate ending popped up on your screen when you checked your phone. Not Reggie, practically laughing in your face and looking forward to your next failure. Not Bathsheba, with her whole self-centered princess gist, and definitely not Father Errol wanting to spread his indoctrinating gospel.
And why can nothing ruin your day? Because not only do you have a date with your boyfriends: you are finally invited to their apartment! Ever since Eddie mentioned that they live above the club, you’ve always been curious as to just how much more space can fit into your electrical closet. You’ve been wondering so many things: how many rooms are upstairs? Do they have a bathroom and a kitchen? Do they even need to sleep? What does the decor look like? With this to look forward to, your resolve in helping other objects has been unwavering, no matter how many times you’ve thought about throwing some of them out of the goddamned window-
Anyway. The other reason you’ve been insistent in helping out the others has been Tinfoilhat’s latest message. In good Skylar-approved fashion, you’ve ignored any concerns about physics, and biology, and, frankly, bureaucratic implications of this, because the chance to turn all your friends and lovers into real people? Realization… It sounds bonkers. The fact that you can… Actually turn objects into humans is beyond crazy. And you’re beyond excited to tell the boys.
For now, you’ve kept it secret: you’ve been endlessly talking with Sam, begging her to help you out with compiling all the paperwork that humans need to just exist, from birth certificates, IDs, to diplomas and social security numbers. It’s honestly been a nightmare, and you’re pretty sure that forging all of this for soon-to-exist people is beyond illegal, but you’ll manage… Somehow. But! Sam has decided to look further into it, and you want to finally share the news with your boys.
So here you are now: still in your pajamas (special instruction from Volt, for some reason), with a few hours before the club opens again. Guess that they really want to just relax a bit before they have to head down to work, and you’re more than happy to indulge them. You slip past the opened crack of the Breaker Box entrance, and as you step inside, you hear… Nothing. It’s a strange sort of feeling, seeing the usually lively club so calm and quiet. It’s not unsettling - the space is still very much the club you’ve come to love, but it’s odd nonetheless. You make your way over, to the little door you’ve seen next to a small corner of the club. A big sign, in the typical danger warning style you’d find on a high-volatge machine, reads: “Employees only”.
You knock, waiting for the boys to open.
After a short moment, you hear two pairs of footsteps descending a flight of stairs, and as the door opens, you smile happily at your…
Uh. Th- this, uh…
You swear that Volt’s tits looked at you first. And Eddie’s V-line, and- oh fuck, you did not consider the fact that they’d be in their nightwear too. Aka, completely naked from the hips up. What do you do, what do you do? Stop staring, maybe that would help. The millisecond that it took for your eyes to snap up to theirs was definitely more than enough for them, because you’re met with Volt’s widest wolfish grin and Eddie’s beet-red face. At least you’re not the only one blushing here.
Volt crosses his arms directly under his chest, shoving his pecs up a tad more as he leans against the wall. “Our eyes are up here, live wire. Though, you’re more than invited to keep staring~”
Fucker.
Instead of Eddie chastising Volt for being horny on main, what he does instead is even worse. He tilts his head, silvery gray making your skin burn as he looks up and down your outfit: that ancient t-shirt with that print of the fandom you’re no longer in and your comfy shorts, and he has the audacity to whisper: “cute.”
At this point, you think your heart is gonna explode.
“Okay, okay, that's enough, go put on some clothes — the two of you!” With one hand over your own blushing face and a tiny gap to peek through, and the other gesturing wildly in front of yourself, you shoo the two up the stairs, desperately trying to not trip as you follow close behind them.
Volt chuckles, but he obeys easily, stuffing his hands in the pockets of his pants as he takes his sweet time with every step. “So bossy today…”
Eddie huffs, his steps quicker as he goes ahead to open the door to the apartment. “Nothing new.”
“You say that as if you don’t like it.”
“Will both of you just-” You sigh, just succumbing to the pounding in your chest. They’re really gonna be the death of you someday… You can’t help it. This is an outright attack on your heart, you’re sure of it.
Once you’re all upstairs, the hand on your face drops, and the embarrassment ebbs into curiosity as you peek your head inside: it reminds you of those apartments you see in shows, without windows so you don’t see the stage, a comfortable couch in the middle, a small kitchen to the left, and a door that seemingly leads to the bedroom on the right. Maybe it is actually meant to look this way: Skylar’s rendition of an object’s living space, translated into human visuals. As you look up, you see wires lining the ceiling, like they do downstairs in the bar. Funnily enough, the light switches also look like those inside a regular breaker box. Grey dominates the apartment, with flashes of red, orange, yellow, and blue in the form of trinkets and warning labels framed with wiring, mimicking artworks hung in galleries.
It’s a bit chaotic, less put together than the club below. If you had witnessed the construction of the Breaker Box, this is what you imagine being the start of it. It’s so… them. There is no better term for it.
Just like the first time you stepped into this little world behind the metal box, Volt wraps his arm around your waist, and you feel the way his naked side presses into yours. “Welcome to our humble abode,” he announces, before tilting his head towards you. “Less impressive than the club, admittedly, but I’d say it’s more than comfortable for our dear darling.”
Eddie joins you soon, fingertips finding that exposed spot on your back between the fabric, and you jolt at the sudden contact, whipping your head around only to see him vanish into the bedroom.
You huff up at Volt. “What’s up with you two today?”
A curious hum follows a raised eyebrow. “Care to elaborate, live wire?”
“Don’t play dumb… You’re both teasing. Hard.”
A wicked grin. “Are we not allowed to?”
Fuckers, both of them.
A whistle stops you from glaring up at Volt, and your eyes flit to find Eddie waiting by the door, a tank top now covering his torso. “You coming?” Then, a huff as he looks down on himself. “Decent enough for you?“
Okay, by now you're fully convinced that they're setting up…
Wait. Do- do they think-
In a sudden wave of flustered panic, you raise your hands up in surrender, waving frantically. “The- the special occasion is NOT sex!”
Silence follows. Several seconds of time seemingly frozen still, before Eddie snorts, another blush spreading over his cheeks as he tries to hide his face in the crook of his arm. Meanwhile, you feel how Volt’s laughter shakes with a small tingle against your sides, and he gives you a gentle squeeze.
“We know,” he chuckles, pressing a quick kiss to your lips that makes you even more flustered. “We couldn't help trying to entice you, nonetheless. Be assured that we'll wait until you're ready, though.”
Visible relief washes over your face. It's not that you don't want to do things with them… After coming to terms with, well, everything, it's hard to keep things from Betty. Not that she isn't used to it. But… Electrocution is a very real fear. You're already not supposed to stick your fingers in the sockets. Better not to stick anything else in there.
Eddie takes your hand, pulling you into a quick, loving kiss (and it still makes you giggle a bit every time). Meanwhile, Volt steps past you two and lays down on the bed, back leaned against the headboard and patting his thighs, inviting you close.
“I hope you’ll let us hold you, though?”
“Think they will,” Eddie mutters, “how did you call it last week? An ‘Eddie-Volt sandwich’?”
Stop, stop stop, god fucking damn it, you think you’ll die if this keeps up like this. You can’t take it anymore. As you step closer, flustered face finding Volt’s for some sort of guidance on how to best lay down, he hovers his palm over your hip, and as you nod, he gently turns you around, one hand gently pressing you against his body, the other inviting you to lean against him. He’s… Warm. So warm. Every time he hugs you, or holds you close, you feel that warmth seep into your skin. Under his skin, you feel no heartbeat, but a steady current, brimming just under his skin. It feels nice to be held like this. Eddie follows soon after, plopping down half on you, half on the mattress, his head resting in your lap. You feel the little copper ends of his hair poking against your thighs. For some reason, the impulse to card through his hair bubbles up within you, and you bury your hair in the mess of cables. He lets out a small, contented sigh.
“…just so you know,” you grumble, “I’m getting payback someday for all the teasing. Just you wait.”
“Sure, spark,” the man in your lap scoffs, a tiny smirk flashing on his face before it’s gone again.
“I’m looking forward to it,” Volt hums, wrapping his arms around your waist. “Care to enlighten us about that special occasion before we face your wrath, live wire?"
It’s time. The very current that runs through your lovers seems to be running through your own veins as you straighten up a bit, and you can’t stop the corners of your mouth from twitching up at the very thought of telling them, the words eager to spill from your lips. With a short look back to Volt, then to Eddie, you take a deep breath and start talking.
“So… I’ve told you about the guy that gave me Skylar, right? Tinfoilhat?” Once you hear a confirmatory hum from behind you, coupled with Eddie’s nod, you continue. “Well, after letting me try and figure out basically everything for myself and cutting me off whenever I had any questions, he finally told me something… Important.”
Conspiracy fills the air as you pause, too impatient to be as mysterious with your reveal as you’d like to be. It only takes Eddie to raise a brow at you for it all to finally break the dam.
“He told me that you can become real. As in, humans. As in, you will be able to go outside, and see what it’s like out there! You can experience the warmth of the sun on your skin, and the streams of water from the shower, and all the different sensations of having a living body. And you won’t be tied to the house anymore, and you won’t have to take care of everyone anymore. Sure, there’s the whole thing about you having to pay taxes when you become humans, but I’m sure that… you…”
Slowly, your voice trails off as your gaze finds Eddie’s again: completely calm, ever fixed on you, without a hint of surprise at what you expected to be overwhelming news. Your brows furrow as you turn to Volt, and though there is surprise on his face, somehow, it doesn’t feel like it’s directed towards what he just heard.
A frown. “…you don’t sound surprised at all.”
Eddie huffs. “We are surprised.” And it sounds exactly like when you first questioned him about the flickering lights in the club. He’s not exactly the best liar.
Clearing his throat, Volt speaks up. “We were surprised. Admittedly, we’ve already known for a while, live wire, but we figured that you wanted to announce it yourself, so we didn’t dare to ruin the surprise.”
That doesn’t make any sense. How do they know? You made Mac promise not to tell anybody about this. Did one of the objects in the office overhear your conversation?
As if he can read your thoughts, Eddie turns your attention back to him by rolling onto his stomach, tracing his finger along your thigh. “Penelope came in a few nights ago on the verge of crying and ordered some pretty heavy stuff. Lightweight as she is, she only needed one cocktail, and she was already sobbing about how she will never find love in the house…” He shakes his head. “Then, she became weirdly obsessed, rambling something along the lines of ‘once I become human, I’ll find my dream partner outside’. With all the weird stuff that’s happened since you got the glasses…”
“…we put two and two together,” Volt finishes, tone apologetic as he gently kisses your temple. “Apologies, dear.”
You sigh. Poor Penelope. The last dates she went on were… Harsh, to say the least. You want to say that you let her down gently, and you’re more than happy that she was still willing to be your friend, but the pain in her voice was barely ignorable. At least, you hope that she’s right, and that she’ll find the person of her dreams once she has been realized.
“…it’s alright. No surprise, then,” you mutter, though your initial dejected state quickly turns to curiosity again. “So? What do you think?”
There’s finally a bit more of the reaction you were expecting as the steely eyes before you spark, and the wire-haired man before you doesn’t even stop the smile forming on his face. He laughs. “It’s… You know, it sounds unreal. Like it’s too good for it to be true.”
Volt nods, nuzzling into your neck. “Experiencing all the reveries and revelries of humanity? It makes me feel positively electric just thinking about it.”
“Fixing the faulty wire already fixed so much — imagine what it will be like when I’m not a mess of cables and breakers anymore.”
“And imagine how much we’ll be able to do, to see, once the others don’t have to rely on us anymore.”
“Yeah,” Eddie nods, rolling onto his back again, his hand still gently tracing along your thigh, “we’ll finally be on our own. Just the three of us.”
The more they talk, the more your heart feels with a glad sort of warmth. They like it. They want to be with you. Eddie is right: once they’re both human, the house can continue getting electricity without exerting the two of them.
“I can’t wait to see you realized either!” Excitement clear in your voice, you lean against Volt with a giggle. “I wanna show you so many things. I want to show you my favorite places, like that one restaurant in town that I love, and that spot in the park where the trees look prettiest in spring, and I want you to start loving humanity as well. It’s gonna have its ups and downs, but that’s kinda unavoidable unless you’re like, really, really rich.”
Warm laughter fills the room, a small snort from Eddie as he shakes his head. “I mean, we can try our best, but we’re not exactly experts on human stuff.”
Oh! That reminds you, actually. “I’m putting up something with a friend. I gotta ask the major, but I’ve been putting together a sort of workshop for all of you guys, so you have everything you need for when the time comes.”
And you hope that time is soon. How many months have you been stuck in the house by now…? Four? Five? Time blurs together a lot when you’re not allowed to step outside because megacorps drones could steal the only possible way for you to talk to everyone… What kind of futuristic dystopia has the world turned into, you wonder.
“In any case, I supposedly gotta fill the dateviators with more personality power or something along the lines, so I can get you realized as soon as –”
“If we may interject, live wire,” Volt speaks up, apologetic in his interruption, “we’d prefer to wait.”
…huh?
You lean back up, turning your head around to face him. “What? Why?”
Tiny electric tingles brush against your face as Volt gently kisses your forehead. “Don’t you worry, live wire. We’d love to be by your side soon.”
“But we’d rather see how some of the others do before we throw ourselves out into the world like that,” Eddie scoffs.
“Especially with Valdivian still being the issue it is. Besides… We don’t like the thought of leaving so soon.”
A gentle, calloused hand takes your chin, making you look down into steely eyes. Something akin to pain fills Eddie’s eyes, but it’s mixed with an unwavering resolution you’ve seldom seen in his gaze. “Humanity is gonna be… overwhelming, in every sense. We wanna be there for you. Especially because your stubborn ass is gonna be even more busy once you can’t just take off those glasses of yours to ignore people.”
Those are… Valid points. You’d be lying if you said that you aren’t at least a bit disappointed, but you get it. The next weeks are not only gonna be an experiment: if you really think about it, realization is a whole secret operation, right under Valdivian and even the government’s noses.
Holy shit this is actually scary. You’ve just been dating people all the time with a prototype that some EXTREMELY powerful people intend to use for warfare. You definitely have to be careful about this whole thing, and you definitely understand why the boys want to wait.
You nod. “Okay… Yeah, you’re right. I could use the help during all of this.”
Eddie nods, sliding back down and closing his eyes as he basks in your warmth. “Hm. We’ll manage. Trust us, spark.”
Yeah… You’ll manage.
A moment of comfortable silence stretches between all of you. Then, Volt speaks up. “Live wire?”
“Yeah?”
“In addition to the workshop… Would you like us to organize something in the Breaker Box?” His hand strokes over your side. “I think that it would give us all a nice occasion to send everyone off in good spirits. What do you think?”
That sounds nice, but when you think about having to organize that on top of everything…
“Hey now, don’t make that face,” Eddie scoffs, “you already overwork yourself. Let us handle this.”
You raise an eyebrow at him. “As if you don’t overwork yourself?”
Volt sighs… “You know that that’s pretty much hardwired into our dear workaholic…”
Spending a morning like this is something you've always dreamed of. Being in your partner’s bed, feeling the warmth of their body against yours, just talking about everything and nothing. It always felt so unattainable, as far away as the stars in the night sky. All the endless days of loneliness feel now just as distant as you lie sandwiched between Eddie and Volt. Time flies, running like the current in their veins, and after all the times you’ve rolled your eyes every time someone in those shitty rom-coms talks about how they want to stop time to make the moment last longer, it seems you have to admit that you’re sappier than you would have ever admitted.
You don’t know at which point the sap took over your entire conversation, because at some point, you find yourself muttering: “I hope you don't take offense in my words, but you… You're both so poetic to me. Sun and Moon. Veins and blood. Adam and Eve. Frankenstein and the Monster. All those comparisons still don't measure up to what you share.” Your gaze is unfixed, one hand buried in Eddie’s hair and another caressing Volt’s arm on your waist. “Would it be cruel to say that it’s one of the reasons I love you both?”
Tender kisses against your neck follow a thoughtful hum. “It wouldn’t be cruel… But you’d still be excluding yourself again, live wire. What would the sun and the moon be without the sky? What blood could circulate without a heart to pump it through the veins?”
Heat rushes through your cheeks at his words. Shit, you’re actually tearing up a little. How does Volt always find the right words? It’s unfair. You want to do that as well.
Meanwhile, Eddie scoffs in your lap. “Amp’s sake, you’re insufferable.” Still, his face is mushed against your thigh like he glued himself to your body.
You laugh, quickly wiping at your eyes. “Sorry, sorry. Think I’ve spent too much time around Hector and Washford lately…”
The future is scary. It’s gonna be tough, there’s no way around it, but you know that Eddie and Volt will be here for you. They will make sure of it.
I'M ALIVE! After some pretty rough weeks dealing with everything from seasonal depression to ending three friendships at the same time, I've finally finished this chapter! Sorry it took so long, guys. I actually wanted to have completed this fanfic by April bc I'm gonna be super busy these next few weeks, but here we are. If I can, I'll try to finish another chapter this month, but midterms are around the corner and I'm procrastinating on my studying… Hehe. Also gonna be busy bc of convention stuff, so chapters may take a bit.
