Halsin headcanons I feel strongly about

Halsin is the type to collect berries, fruits, herbs and roots, SWEARING he has a good use for them. That he can make up some mean jam or ointment. Thing is, these things take time to make regardless of how skilled you are, so this results in his tent just being a really good smelling hoarding situation. On the flipside though, that also means he always has JUST the thing for literally anything you ask for.

That pipe isn’t for tobacco, we know what it’s for. Sometimes he turns some of his supply into tea as well, if the day has been particularly stressful. He’s of course also willing to share on those occasions, gods know you out of everyone might need it the most. He puts a HARD stop on the recreational use as soon as you enter the Shadowcursed Lands though, being high in there would be self sabotage.

Speaking of behaviour in the Shadowcursed Lands. I truly think the poor guy is afraid of ghosts and necromantic stuff in general. Not even outright zombies or liches or whatever, but the simple things. Things that go bump in the night, maybe even the dark itself at times. So one might imagine how tired he looks while travelling through the curse. Tired and nervous. Maybe that’s even how you got a little closer. One night it simply got too much, so he approached your tent to ask if it was okay he slept near you.

Hello this is an ask for more Halsin headcanons pretty please 🥹

Some more romance centered headcanons are in order I think. So here's some small signs the bear is falling for you :P

- I think the first sign that he might like you a bit more than any other, is when he starts fuzzing a bit over you. Not in an overbearing way of course, but I'd say around the latter part of the Underdark he'll start checking for vitamin D deficiency for example, with the party having been away from the sun for a week at that point. Offer you fruits, throw in dried orange peels in your tea, maybe even check your gums for scurvy signs. If you'll let him get that close of course.

- If you're too hot, he'll offer his waterbottle. If you're too cold, he has at least three skins in his tent that he "wasn't really using anyway". And it's not even because he's too nervous to make his feelings known either, Halsin just prefers to feel it out first when he realises something might be brewing in his heart. How does it feel to care for you? When you smile because of him? How does it feel to touch you?

- That's also another thing. He gets a bit more eager to touch, or be close in general. Just a gentle hand to move you, or a helping hand if you're trying to navigate rubble and whatnot. Now if YOU'RE the one to offer touch though, he might slip up his otherwise stoic front he tries to keep up. If you ask for a hug or massage after a particularly gruesome day out, he'll practically beam at the opportunity. And by the gods that man can knead out any back problem, so you best ask for your own sake.

- Now, if you compliment any of these efforts, he might know for sure he has to ask for your company in the near future. Whether it's you mentioning how you like Halsin's tea the best, or that you feel a bit calmer and safe coming back to a camp he's been watching over all day, or whatever it might be. His pointed ears might just turn red and droop down, as he scrambles to choke out a small "of course" or "just doing what I can."

This is also part of why I'm so loud about homeschool reform, specifically in the USA.

In the US, there is no meaningful legal definition for educational/academic neglect in any of the 50 states or federally. What this means is that a child can be "homeschooled" and exclusively be taught how to cook and clean, reach the age of 18 being unable to read, write, or count, and this alone is not considered neglect. That 18yo, should they even have the knowledge that suing exists, has no legal grounds to sue their parents for denying them an education.

In over 40 US states, a convicted child abuser can homeschool their children. So someone who has done time for child abuse and somehow regains access to their child(ren) can decide upon returning home that they want to "homeschool" their kids. Those children are now locked in a home with their abuser where nobody can see them.

There are no welfare checks.

There are no routine assessments.

There aren't even databases — state or federal — keeping track of how many homeschooled kids there actually are.

Meaning a child can be locked in their home for their entire life with their convicted abuser, learn absolutely nothing, never go to the doctor, and so long as that child is fed, clothed, and the abuse isn't physical or sexual, that child has almost no chance of rescue and no legal ground to seek restitution if/when they escape.

The only way homeschooled children get rescued is if they're beaten, starved, or physically neglected and they're able to get the right person to see that. Otherwise? They have to wait until someone finds out they were murdered as a result of their parents "homeschooling".

And feral homeschool parents love to jump down my throat about this, and then get even more pissed when I tell them I'm a homeschool alumni.

Because I know it's not all homeschoolers. But even one is too many, and the lack of protections should scare everyone. If you're a good homeschool parent, nothing will change. If not, you deserve whatever comes your way as a result of adequate oversight.

I dont get people who write a Wyll that gets nervous and an Astarion who doesn't. Wyll gets tortured in front of the group and still doesn't miss a beat, aside from if you let his father die, I think there's only one or two lines where his dialogue strays from "affable/charming". Good luck trying to get through that shell, lol. Meanwhile Astarion has dozens of shrill, nervous, panicked dialogue lines. Astarion is a character who is influenced strongly by player choice and never goes it alone whereas Wyll leaves the camp if you fuck him around too much.

I feel like if you make Astarion cool and suave you are falling for the façade that is supposed to be deconstructed by the viewer and if you make Wyll fumbling, naïve and nervous you are forgetting that this man has been locked in a 24/7 one-on-one psycho-sexual mental battle with a billion-year-old demon from the 9th circle of Hell for the entirety of his adult life at this point, so. Jot that down.
