okay cowboy cereal model is a very niche genre but it should be a thing
Roy Rogers-Ruth Terry-Leroy Mason "Cita en la frontera" (Hands across the border) 1944, de Joseph Kane.
Estelita Rodriguez-Roy Rogers "El potro de oro" (The golden stallion) 1949, de William Witney.
I've watched this for so long. it's perfect.

Song of Arizona (1946)
You absolutely must hunt until you find the full length theatrical version of this one! The Roy Rogers and Dale Evans cuteness you will find is absolute nectar for the soul.
Now we've seen the sassy and fun photo ops where Roy has lassoed Dale. But in this one, Roy is the one getting lassoed more often than not. And I think he kind of likes it. I mean, it's Dale. Anyways, the lasso is a super cute and flirty theme that you will miss if you only watch the cut film.
There. That is my very valuable input on this lovely old drama Western.
Look at this cuteness. Who wouldn't want to throw a lasso around him?

Apache Rose 1947 - Dramatic thoughts
I'm watching through Apache Rose (1947) for the first time. (My life is chaotic so I watch things in 15 minutes increments - psychotic, I know.)
But this film has been hard for me to get through, for a different reason.
I'm a bit of an empath, which is someone who is highly sensitive to others emotions. And I feel so much sad emotion coming from Roy Rogers, that it's almost difficult to watch the movie. It's like I constantly want someone to give the man a hug. His character isn't lonely, but I feel loneliness from him. His face isn't melancholy, but I feel a weight pulling him down. He moves with as much strength and grace as ever, but I see a bone deep weariness.
Maybe I'm overthinking things. Or maybe -- maybe I really feel/see these things, because this was just a few months after the King of the Cowboys suddenly became a widower and a single father to three young kids.
Just me? Okay, I'll be over here with my dramatic self!

Jeepers Creepers (1939) - crazy notes
NOBODY WARNED ME.
I need Roy Rogers fanfiction for this movie so badly. you do not understand perhaps.
he falls in love with the daughter of the villain. (there is kissing! on screen!)
he singlehandedly takes on a bar full of ruffians.
he gets hurt fighting a forest fire.
i was just trying to watch this to complete my Roy Rogers filmography.
But.
This is prime Roy Rogers content and NOBODY WARNED ME.
(Maybe because it's not a Western? But it's a really good story actually!)
I haven’t posted here in a while but found myself in a rabbit hole on this last day of Women’s History Month 2024.
It started with the song Jeepers Creepers, which until today I thought was just a jingle to advertise sunglasses in the 70s.
Ethel Waters recorded the first known version in November 1938, just a few months before Louis Armstrong’s recording in 1939.
Original music composed by Harry Warren and lyrics by Johnny Mercer for the 1938 movie Going Places, in which Armstrong performed.
Ethel Waters was also the first African American woman to integrate Broadway when composer Irving Berlin awarded her a starring role in his Broadway musical, As Thousands Cheer.
Jeepers Creepers (1939)
WE'VE BEEN LIED TO!
Roy Rogers kissed someone on screen who was not Dale! Or Trigger! Like on the lips! (I am apparently 12 years old again.)
This was definitely part of a cover up. I've always read that his first and only on screen kiss was Dale Evans in San Fernando Valley (1945). But I was watching Jeepers Creepers (1939) where Roy has a smaller role, with Maris Wrixon as the love interest.
He's getting on her nerves and she slaps him (which also only happens in one other film), and then in a sort of uncharacteristic show of romantic frustration, he grabs her by the shoulders and gives her a quick kiss.
I was both horrified and surprised haha. I was simply not expecting it. For someone who has diligently studied and learned as much Roy Rogers lore as I can find, this was an exciting find.

even more job ideas for your western/cowboy oc that are not outlaws, bounty hunters, or sheriffs
wanted poster sketch artist - try your darnedest, some of the descriptions folks will give you will be really... something
owner of a small inn/old trading post in the middle of nowhere - days are slow, but ever so often you get travelers stopping by to rest or replenish their things
stablehand for a traveling wild west show like "Buffalo Bill's" - working with performers is tough (they always think they're the main character ugh), you prefer the company of animals and enjoy watching shows from behind-the-scenes
a small town's local barber... and dentist... and surgeon...
saloon piano player - inebriated patrons amuse and annoy you
snake oil salesperson - do you brew your own magic juice or are you just a pawn in a larger business?
sunday school "teacher" - you were not quite educated yourself, but you were the only able-bodied adult in town without kids or family, so you got assigned daycare duty
these are genius
Nevada City 1941
Nevada City (1941) is one of my favorite of Roy Rogers' historic setting movies, set in the 1860's. They used actual historic train engines in the filming, which is interesting!
Roy Rogers film - Silver Spurs (1943)
Silver Spurs (1943) is one of those films where a body wants to keep pausing it because Roy Rogers is just so darn cute.
Speaking of spurs, anyone else addicted to the sound of spurs jingling? Just me? Okay, sorry let's keep going.
Can't seem to find any pictures of Phyllis Brooks looking even mildly agreeable, but I still liked her character as a reluctant-mail-order-bride who is actually an undercover reporter.
Look at these two beautiful people, ugh.
Sorry for the watermark, anyone want to buy a vintage movie poster for me? I promise I'll only kiss it a few times. (kidding! mostly...)
Yesterday was National Day of the Cowboy. So here's the King of the Cowboys (and The Smartest Horse in Movies) for ya! Plus two pint sized cowpokes. Where can I get my hands on a nice fringed shirt like that??
Billy the Kid Returns, 1938
A collection of lobby cards from the second movie Roy Rogers made, which I highly recommend watching!
Mary Hart/Lynne Roberts is such a cutie. And Smiley Burnette's character is pretty great. And young Roy Rogers is just *chef's kiss*. I say young, but he was around my age. Gives me hope lol.
