Assassin’s Creed challenge remake Day 4: Altair, Ezio or Desmond?
⊱ Connor Kenway/Ratonhnhaké:ton On this land, I am torn. Part of me wants to fight and repel all outsiders. The other part of me is the outsider. In the name of liberty, I will fight the enemy regardless of their allegiance. While men of courage write history of this day, the future of our land depends on those who are truly free.
obviously the best part of AC3 is when Norris is distraught that Myriam didn't like the flowers and Connor very seriously says "I will uncover this mystery myself >:(" and then runs off into the night and super intense music plays because being Norris's wingman is the most important thing he's ever done
"I present the truth, Connor, that you may do with it as you will".
Assassin's Creed II (2009) dev. Ubisoft
there is something so israeli about ppl drawing altaïr with fair skin and blonde hair
The parallels between Connor in AC: III and Aveline in AC: Liberation are crazy.
They both have Templar parents, they both struggle with losing faith in the Assassin cause, and they both lose mothers at a young age.
Besides, they are both outsiders to the societies that surround them. Connor is a Native American man in Colonial/Revolutionary America, while Aveline is black women who was born from a slave mother and a free, white father into the deeply racist colonial New Orleans society.
Honestly, it's a shame that they didn't interact more besides that one mission in AC: Liberation. Or even in any other material (that I'm aware of) like the Assassins Creed comics or books.
in a perfect universe Ubisoft remakes AC3 but does the modern story in such a way that they reboot and retcon Desmond's death and makes him a modern day Master Assassin and creates a Brotherhood with actual goals and a story that goes somewhere and feels tangible
because like yes i wish Desmond lived but i think it would've been better had he gotten another game showing him as a fully realized Assassin or whatever and like. reforming the present day Brotherhood before the story gets passed onto someone else ... i havent played or kept up with the games past Unity but from what i know they like. sorta? do that with that one chick (Layla... Lyla... something...) but if game reviews are anything to go off of i assume it's been done kinda poorly
i rant and i rave but does any of it make sense!
(ive not played or seen how they chose to handle the modern day story for AC4 Resynced so if this post seems silly tell me and ill take it down cuz thats embarazzing) (woof...)
AND ALSO THEY MAKE A PROPER DLC FOR LIBERATION BECAUSE THAT WAS THE ONLY GAME THAT GAVE A PROTAGONIST VARIOUS PERSONAS AND I THINK IT FIT REALLY WELL WITH HER HERITAGE AS A WOMAN MIXED WITH BLACK CREOLE AND WHITE IN 1700S LOUISIANA WITH LAWS SUCH AS THE "ONE DROP RULE" AND IT WAS TOO GOOD A FEATURE TO HAVE BEEN FORGOTTEN AND THEREFORE WASTED THE WAY IT WAS

Assassin's Creed has this wonderful scifi conceit of traveling back into the genetic memories of your ancestors in order to uncover secrets, and largely wastes it. The more recent games have the modern world as largely an afterthought, and the series-level writing on this game is not good, mostly because it's meant to be an eternal franchise that never has any kind of conclusion, so can only spin its wheels and occasionally have a reveal that doesn't make sense and will surely have no further impact on the series. And the conceit is also at odds with the open world collectathon hyperactive distraction gameplay, failing to leverage the idea that this is what the ancestor character actually did, or that you're trying to be "in sync" with them.
Anyway, my dream Assassin's Creed game goes against every principle they must be working under to make such disappointing, buggy slopfests. And my desire for storytelling goes against the (weak) exploration the series has become so preoccupied with. And some of the things I want, like a proper modern day storyline that you spend actual time in, would probably not be budget-friendly because of the assets that you wouldn't be able to reuse.
But how cool would it be to switch between medieval Berlin, modern Berlin, and Cold War Berlin? To weave different interlocking stories together? To trace the past with the tool of the Animus? To have storylines that comment on each other both directly and through contrast? And one of the things that I don't recall the games ever doing is that you can have a conflict between past and present, where the person using the Animus hates the person they're trying sync with. You have to relive your grandfather's sins to get the information you need, and then his memories and personality start bleeding through, altering you. Think of the tension inherent in having to play out the memory of your ancestor killing someone you've come to like.
Absolutely no way Ubisoft ever does anything interesting with the franchise, sadly.
