Sabryna’s eyes sprung open. Once they focused, she squinted towards the time illuminated on the wall across from the bed.
“Justin.” She sat up and grumbled, “Why are you calling me?”
“You gave me your card, remember?”
“It’s three a.m.,” she snapped.
“Is there a better time to call?”
“Oh my God, I’m going to strangle you.”
Sabryna ended the connection.
Before her head could hit the pillow, her phone buzzed again. She groaned, stared at the ceiling, then answered gruffly, “What the hell do you want?”
“I can and your nonsense is ruining it. Call me during normal business hours.”
“If you become my publicist… this will be normal business hours.”
“Well, that explains why Micheal is making such ridiculous choices.” Sabryna huffed, then shouted, “He’s exhausted.”
“Nahh, Micheal just isn’t the sharpest tool in the shed.”
“And yet, you allowed your father to guilt you into letting him represent you.”
“How do you figure that?”
She chuckled as she brushed hair out of her face with the palm of her hand.
“No,” he admitted. “You didn’t.”
“Will you give me the opportunity to know you again?”
“Yes… you have. There’s an edge to you that wasn’t there before.”
Sabryna closed her eyes and smiled.
Her tone softened, “Yes, Justin.”
“I know I’ve been a royal fuck up. I have a lot of shit to unpack in my life, but I have really been praying to get better. The night I gave up hope, I saw your face on my tv. I prayed harder to be connected with you again, and now… here we are.”
The lingering silence was broken when JL cleared his throat.
“What do you want me to do with that? Seriously.”
“Just think about it… us, giving us another chance.”
“Can I see you before Monday?”
“No… you can’t. This, us is beyond what was. I want to be in your life, but only as your publicist.”
“And if I say I want more?”
“Then I’d say good luck getting it. You burned me once, and I won’t allow you the opportunity to do it again. Now, I don’t want to be rude a second time. So, I will say good night and caution you that I won’t accept another call from you until we’re negotiating your contract.
