Meltdown Moments #2 (I’m a voice meter?)
My teacher can never control my class and I often have meltdowns in that class. And my teacher did nothing. And when I say that, I mean that I’m right in the middle of class, clearly seen tugging at my hair and hyperventilating. One day, I asked him why he didn’t see that I was having a meltdown. His excuse? “ oh. I noticed. But I just figured I should just calm the class down first. ” A LESSON TO ANY TEACHERS: if you have an autistic student who is sensitive to loud noise or you have a student who gets constant panic attacks- help them. Quietly ask if they are ok. We may not seem appreciative but deep down we will feel happy that we are noticed. Make sure the student is taken to a quiet area where they calm down for a couple minutes. To ensure the student doesn’t need to leave, calm down your class and wait for the student to come in. This is coming from an autistic girl here. Please make sure that student is out of the classroom before trying to calm down your class.
