It could be a few different things at play.

Jonny Lee Miller’s been promoting the UK theatrical release of T2 Trainspotting for the past few weeks, so they probably have only so much filmed for Elementary ahead of time.

Sports events have been a huge annoyance this season when it comes to airing  episodes.

It could also be scheduling conflicts with other shows on CBS, though I know way less about that.

I agree though. These random hiatuses / hiati (is that an actual word? I’m not quite sure, but it’s awesome) are tedious.

Holmes loves anything that’s extra and ridiculous and cool(metal, trap, etc.) He’ll pick a song and sit with it for a while to feel it. He loves DJ Khaled because that much bravado is fascinating and deserves to be studied.  He highkey wishes Darkchild would get back into the studio. 10/10 will listen to a band if the drummer is kickass. 

Joan likes early 2000s EDM and rap. Chicago house, Baltimore Go-go, East London grime. If you ask her east coast or west coast, she will respond, “Dirty South.”

Alfredo is music lover, not bound to any genre. He’s about mood and that’s why he’s Spotify famous. He puts out highly anticipated playlists every week. 

Mrs. Hudson is a Beyonce stan and enjoys the divas of old. She follows Cher on twitter waiting for tour dates that will never come. 

Det. Marcus Bell loves good old fashioned, leather suit(no shirt) wearing,  tears on yo piano in the desert, crying in the rain 90’s R&B. He really enjoyed the New Edition Story. It’s still saved on his DVR. He can’t bring himself to delete it.

Jamie Moriarty only listens to movie scores and whatever she accidentally catches on the radio. She thinks Lady Gaga tries too hard. It’s a point Holmes would argue constantly.

Spring 2017 schedule for ASIE

Recently real life has been more on the forefront, and why I’ve been more or less away from here.

I received word today that I’ve been accepted to Minneapolis Community and Technical College in Fall 2017 for the Library Information Technology program. It’s a huge step for me, especially since I dropped out of college in 2014 due to mental illness (after 6 years of trying).

Additionally...

My chosen brothers and I have been finalizing plans for me to stay with them in Leeds from March - May 2017. Said plans have been over a year in the making, mainly because of finances.

Essentially, when it comes to posting here on ASIE, once this month is through, my schedule will be inconsistent for the rest of the Season 5 airings. I don’t know how much free time I’ll have in my schedule, but I will endeavor to post when I can and remain in the fandom.

Please don’t hesitate to send asks and/or “@” ASIE during this time; I will see them and try to respond as fast as I’m able.

I hope everyone is having a good and safe 2017 so far. I appreciate all of you!

Hey I know you're a fan of Elementary and although I watched s1, I never watched past. I was thinking of picking it up again but there are so many episodes. I was hoping you'd know which episodes show the best of Watson, whether that's with her friends, family, or Sherlock. Or if you know a place where I could find a list like that?

oh!! OH!!! I know I’d seen someone’s plot-centric episodes catch up list a while back….After 25 minutes of looking I HAVE FOUND THE POST!!

Now, I’m not sure if there’s an existing Joan-centric episode list, but I’ll post this in the tags and see if any of the other lovely fandom luminaries who’ve been going strong since 2012 know of or feel like making one.*

MY MOMENT HAS ARRIVED (no read mores we scroll like men)

for the best of joan, i feel like all of season one would apply, but i’ll try to narrow it down to the *absolute* best

1x01 - the pilot: joan is presented as the pov character for one of the only times in the show. she’s assertive, she knows her shit, and she gets things done. she also gets to be offended, hurt, vulnerable, and kind of petty. it’s a fantastic introduction.

1x04 - rat race: joan saves the day and gets the first stirrings of not wanting a normal life.

1x05 - lesser evils: joan deals with her painful exit from medicine and saves the day, again.

1x09 - you do it to yourself: meeting someone from her past leads to joan revealing why she became a sober companion.

1x10 - the leviathan: the watsons show up and demand an audience with joan. sherlock invites himself. joan’s mom is awesome.

1x11 - dirty laundry: joan takes a young murder suspect under her wing.

1x12 - m: joan makes a decision that basically creates holmes & watson.

1x17 - possibility two: (it literally kills me to cut out the ones before it but anyway.) joan is the most adorable fledgling detective who ever lived.

1x18 - deja vu all over again: my favorite joan ep of the entire show. joan’s enthusiasm for her new career leads to friction with her old friends, which leads to doubt, which leads to joan saving the day.

1x23-4 - the woman/heroine: joan saves the day for all time.

2x02 - solve for x: joan meets up with the son of her last patient and talks, for the first and only time, about what happened before she quit.

2x03 - we are everyone: joan pushes back against the most wild roller coaster ride of a day ever, is unflappably witty throughout, and totally saves the day.

2x13 - all in the family: where we learn about joan’s love for the mafia.

2x15 - corpse de ballet: joan takes on an independent case that turns out to be very personal for her.

2x19 - the many mouths of aaron colville: joan thinks her hospital mentor may have murdered a serial killer while she looked on.

2x22 - paint it black: joan bamfs her way through being kidnapped.

3x01 - enough nemesis to go around: joan is the coolest, gives no fucks, independent consultant the world has ever seen.

3x04 - bella: idk it’s just a good overall episode.

3x09 - the eternity injection: joan gets sherlock to open up about something that’s been bothering him.

3x12 - the one that got away: joan puts herself in danger to save the day. the day is somewhat saved.

3x13 - hemlock: joan morphs back into someone who talks things out and expresses what’s she’s thinking and when she’s upset. it’s a brief shining moment in time.

3x14 - the female of the species: joan’s day off.

3x16 - for all you know: joan is convinced sherlock didn’t murder someone and she PROVES it, thus saving the day.

4x04 - all my exes live in essex: joan gets a lesbian stalker and uses her medical knowledge to save the day. those two things are unrelated, i think.

4x11 - down where the dead delight: joan has a few more conversations with her lesbian stalker.

4x19-20 - all in/ready or not: the material witness in a case has a connection to joan, whether either of them want her to or not.

5x13 - over a barrel: joan is again bamf even when she’s held hostage.

this is an excellent list but I have a few additions where my POV diverges a bit from @beanarie. The divergence can be explained by my ability to compartmentalize the moments I like enough to disregard the rest of an episode that otherwise disappoints (or in some cases enrages). ymmv.

first, 100% of season one is non-negotiable. period. season one is my favorite episode, as @beanarie used to say until I stole her tag. If you need detailed arguments why Joan needs you to watch the ones B left out, I can provide them. tl;dr: watch every single episode of season one.

2x05 - ancient history: @beanarie hates this episode with good reason, but we do meet another of Joan’s friends, and she does some solo investigation, before it all becomes All About Sherlock in an incredibly invasive way. 

2x06 - an unnatural arrangement: I like this episode for Joan because literally nothing she does is for Sherlock. She acts and reacts entirely on her own behalf. I also really like Cheryl Gregson in it. Warning: this is the episode when Sherlock refers to a dog as a “feminazi”.

2x23 - art in the blood: my most controversial addition. the most important thing is to stop watching at 36:25: do not watch the last 7 minutes. Earlier in the episode, Joan has an incredible scene that the ending completely undermines. I love that scene and disregard the rest.

3x19 - one watson, one holmes: I’ve got mixed feelings about this one. Joan struggles with who she wants to be and even talks about it a tiny bit (with prompting from Sherlock). We see some of her friends again but they’re trivialized and the scene is a wasted opportunity. I think on balance the episode manages to be just a little be more about Joan than about Sherlock helping Joan, but it’s a close call.

s4: Joan does have a bit of a solo investigation arc over the course of the season, but nothing much comes of it in the end so it’s not worth watching more episodes just for that IMLTHO.

s5: a few episodes that you’d think would be good opportunities to focus on and develop Joan that fizzle out into case nonsense or quickly shift attention to Shinwell and/or Sherlock. 5x01 for example.

I know 5x10 focuses on Shinwell and Sherlock for the B plot, but I think the case side does give a decent focus to Joan. I still think the way she dealt with the case was very intriguing.

5x07 does also focus on Shinwell but Joan has a bigger role in that episode than other Shinwell episodes, and though Sherlock steps in on her behalf, he and Shinwell do discuss Joan, just not explicitly. These two eps are my favorites in s5 besides 5x13 so far.

I love the idea that it’s the preservation of an ideal for Sherlock…I want to explore that so bad now. And it brings to mind a headcanon I already have about Sherlock feeling a lot of guilt over what Joan has gone through as part of her partnership with him - her kidnappings, Andrew’s death, his relapse, that I feel like he’s maintained that barrier for both of their protection, but more so hers.

And I do picture her approaching it rationally, because they each respect each other’s boundaries to such an extreme degree I believe it’s been conflated to a fear of crossing them on both their parts, but I think Sherlock feels his fear more tangibly than Joan does. I have soooo many ideas about this and your tags just brought out more and I’m so *excited* omg and of course Tumblr won’t let me tag you >:(

But omg please if you want give me more of your thoughts on this. I will ramble about this for ages if I let myself (but rn I’m at work)

These are definitely good points.

We’ve seen Sherlock attempt more casual touches to other people that he cares for, but it’s not something that comes naturally for him that isn’t related to The Work.

The bigger issue is that we don’t see Sherlock and Joan communicating how their physical needs aren’t being met (hugs, comfort touch, etc.). Rationally, Sherlock and Joan would be willing to adapt. Sherlock would be the one that’d adapt more in this situation, but give him time to adjust to the change and he’ll be less likely to get overwhelmed. It’d definitely take an honest conversation, especially with confronting how Joan processes, or isn’t processing, her trauma.

Count that as part of the ever-growing list of things the writers aren’t focusing on...
