synopsis ; steven and marc are yet to meet the third alter in their system, but they do happen to meet his best friend.

a/n ; may have multiple parts! not sure yet!! :’)

jake and y/n had been friends for around four, possibly five years. that friendship consisted of jake showing up at y/n’s flat beaten up, bloody and bruised and then disappearing for weeks, sometimes months. but the two did have a deep bond, a solid friendship with a lot of trust. jake had been open with y/n about having dissociative identity disorder, told her about the two men he shared a body with and even slipped in how he worked for khonshu. he described steven as a neurotic nerd and marc as a loser, but y/n and jake’s friendship consisted of unspoken words, yet the two were keenly aware of the meaning behind the other’s words. she could tell he cared about the two alters, but had a hard time admitting it.

“jake?” y/n whispered to herself, spotting the man in a café, “hey jake!”

others had turned and looked at her, yet the man she was talking to remained engrossed in a book.

“didn’t know you were capable of reading, hey jake. again.” y/n sat in the empty chair directly across from him.

he looked up from his book at y/n and blinked, his eyes wide and confusion evident on his face, “i’m sorry.. do i know you?”

“um..” y/n bit the inside of her cheek, this must be steven, “sorry, you look a lot like one of my friends, wow this is embarrassing.”

“oh no! don’t worry about it! wouldn’t be the first time this has happened..” he trailed off, “well, last time the person actually did know me, turns out-”

hey heyheyhey?! steven, maybe don’t say that to someone you just met?

steven coughed and avoided y/n’s eyes, “sorry, bit of a nervous nellie, i am… i’m steven, with a v, not that that’s important. sorry.”

y/n smiled, “well steven with a v, it’s nice to meet you, my name is y/n, maybe with a v.”

steven laughed, a smile spreading across his face, “lovely to meet you, y/n!”

“if you do ever.. meet them, which you won’t. but. if it happens, make sure they aren’t doing anything stupid.” y/n recalled a conversation she had about jake one night, where jake mentioned that he was worried about being found out. although she didn’t agree with jake keeping his entire existence a secret, she knew that jake didn’t do many things without reason to.

“were you waiting for someone? jake, was it? i don’t mean to be a bother,” steven’s lip twitched, y/n assumed from being nervous.

“oh no! i come here every tuesday, you just look at my friend from a distance,” y/n chuckled, “i don’t have the best vision.”

“i come here every wednesday! decided to treat myself and come a day early this week,” steven smiled, slowly relaxing, “my boss is a bit of a… you don’t happen to know a donna by chance, do you?”

“can’t say i that i do,” y/n chuckled, “guessing she’s a bit of a nasty one, huh?”

steven rolled his eyes, “oh please! nasty one is bein’ quite generous!”

y/n laughed and steven could feel a buzz of electricity run down his spine, “okay, i can do better, let me think… rotten bitch?”

steven tucked his smile behind his cup of tea, trying not to laugh into his drink.

“was that a bit too much?” y/n bit the inside of her cheek.

“spot on actually, but your words not mine, if anyone asks.” steven laughed nervously.

y/n would’ve assumed that meeting the other two alters in jake’s system would have been strange, maybe a little odd to see the face of her friend acting in ways she had never seen before. jake didn’t smile, but smirked. jake never laughed, but scoffed. steven was completely different to jake, but somehow just as charming. his awkwardness was cute and y/n found herself wanting to see him again.

“what book were you reading?” y/n looked down at the table at steven’s book. he had a bookmark slotted between the pages, but never closed it. what fascinated y/n the most was the highlighted sections with handwritten notes around them.

“oh!” steven grinned sheepishly, shutting the book and holding it up so y/n could see the cover, “just an old book on ancient egyptian myths and legends, i’ve read it before quite a few times, brilliant book to pass time.”

y/n smiled, folding her arms and resting them on the small table, as she listened to steven ramble about his favourite myths. there was something about him that was so charming that she had never come across in another man. usually if she had been sat with a man, who went on and on about a subject, she’d be bored half to death by now, but steven was a brilliant storyteller, he didn’t even look at the book once whilst he recalled the stories he knew.

“you know, if you like the ancient egyptians, i heard there’s a museum with an ancient egyptian section?” y/n smiled.

“i actually work there,” steven chuckled, a sheepish grin spread across his face.

“oh… well, that makes sense now, you must be one of the tour guides then?” y/n raised an eyebrow.

“oh not at all, don’t think i’ll ever be one, my boss isn’t a big fan of me,” steven fidgeted with his hands, the topic of donna always making him anxious, sometimes even paranoid.

“that’s crazy!” y/n exclaimed, her eyes widening as she realised she spoke louder than intended and most people in the café had turned to look at her, “sorry, that’s crazy…”

steven just smiled, “you really think i could be a tour guide?”

y/n scoffed, “i would pay to go to the museum every day if you were a tour guide!”

steven felt his cheeks grow warm, “well, lucky you… the tickets are free!”

“your boss is insane, you’d be the only tour guide if it were up to me.” y/n shrugged.

is she flirting with me? steven asked himself.

wasn’t talking to you!! shoo! steven stared at the grumpy man staring back at him from the reflection of a teaspoon.

“well, i’m quite alright working at the gift shop, just wished people were a bit more interested in what they were buying rather than the price..” he muttered.

“my friend bought some sweets from the museum once and i have to say it was the worst thing i’ve ever tried,” y/n shook her head, remembering the taste. now that she found out steven worked at the museum, jake must have stolen the sweets. she knew jake would never willingly go to a museum to learn, so it made sense now.

“vile, innit? pity every person that has the misfortune of buying them,” steven winced, remembering how he had sold two packets of said sweets to two couples.

“yet you sell them anyways?” y/n laughed, knowing it was out of his control.

“well, some days when i’m feeling particularly heroic, i hide them under the counter, but sneak them back on display whenever donna comes ‘round.”

“a true hero of the people,” y/n fake swooned, making steven laugh.

“it’s getting a bit dark out, would you like me to walk you home, or the tube station? not in a creepy way! just- it- sorry.” steven let out an exasperated breath.

“that’d be nice,” y/n smiled, her smile only growing more after steven smiled back.

hearing her phone ring, y/n paused her movie and checked who was calling, “hey jake, what’s up? which alleyway are you covering in blood?”

“real funny, gets funnier every time you pick your phone up like that.”

“what shit in your ass today?” y/n rolled her eyes, “you’ll never guess what happened today!”

“you met steven, he charmed his ass off and now you got a date with him?” jake’s monotonous voice was more than enough to let y/n know he was less than thrilled.

“what’s the problem..?” y/n frowned, “are you uncomfortable with it? i can cancel?”

jake clenched his jaw. he didn’t want to ruin steven’s evening, but he also didn’t want steven trying anything with his best friend, “don’t cancel, it’s fine.”

“you sure, jake?” y/n sighed, she’d known the man for a long time, granted there were several gaps between the times they spoke, but she knew him. she had seen him at his lowest.

“yeah, have a good date, or whatever.”

“are you jealous, lockley?” y/n teased, laughing at his grumpy sounding voice. she could even imagine the look on his face right now.

“i’m not,” he groaned, “bye.”

“hey? don’t hang up!” y/n yelled through her phone.

“there goes my fucking eardrum…” jake hissed, holding his phone against his other ear.

“sorry,” y/n mumbled, “are you okay with this, because if you aren’t, i promise i won’t go through with it.”

“your the only thing in my life that has ever been just mine,” he paused, feeling uncomfortable expressing himself like this, especially when he couldn’t see how she was reacting, “i don’t mean that in a weird way, just… i’ve never had to share you with either of them.”

“my friend bought some sweets from the museum once and i have to say it was the worst thing i’ve ever tried,” y/n shook her head, remembering the taste. now that she found out steven worked at the museum, jake must have stolen the sweets. she knew jake would never willingly go to a museum to learn, so it made sense now.

“vile, innit? pity every person that has the misfortune of buying them,” steven winced, remembering how he had sold two packets of said sweets to two couples.

“yet you sell them anyways?” y/n laughed, knowing it was out of his control.

“well, some days when i’m feeling particularly heroic, i hide them under the counter, but sneak them back on display whenever donna comes ‘round.”

“a true hero of the people,” y/n fake swooned, making steven laugh.

“it’s getting a bit dark out, would you like me to walk you home, or the tube station? not in a creepy way! just- it- sorry.” steven let out an exasperated breath.

“that’d be nice,” y/n smiled, her smile only growing more after steven smiled back.

hearing her phone ring, y/n paused her movie and checked who was calling, “hey jake, what’s up? which alleyway are you covering in blood?”

“real funny, gets funnier every time you pick your phone up like that.”

“what shit in your ass today?” y/n rolled her eyes, “you’ll never guess what happened today!”

“you met steven, he charmed his ass off and now you got a date with him?” jake’s monotonous voice was more than enough to let y/n know he was less than thrilled.

“what’s the problem..?” y/n frowned, “are you uncomfortable with it? i can cancel?”

jake clenched his jaw. he didn’t want to ruin steven’s evening, but he also didn’t want steven trying anything with his best friend, “don’t cancel, it’s fine.”

“you sure, jake?” y/n sighed, she’d known the man for a long time, granted there were several gaps between the times they spoke, but she knew him. she had seen him at his lowest.

“yeah, have a good date, or whatever.”

“are you jealous, lockley?” y/n teased, laughing at his grumpy sounding voice. she could even imagine the look on his face right now.

“i’m not,” he groaned, “bye.”

“hey? don’t hang up!” y/n yelled through her phone.

“there goes my fucking eardrum…” jake hissed, holding his phone against his other ear.

“sorry,” y/n mumbled, “are you okay with this, because if you aren’t, i promise i won’t go through with it.”

“your the only thing in my life that has ever been just mine,” he paused, feeling uncomfortable expressing himself like this, especially when he couldn’t see how she was reacting, “i don’t mean that in a weird way, just… i’ve never had to share you with either of them.”

“i can cancel the date?” y/n’s voice was quiet, unsure how to respond.

“don’t cancel,” he reiterated firmly, “steven’s vegan, so if he says he’s okay with going to a steak house, he’s lying.”

“vegan? you poor thing, do you not get to eat steak often then?” y/n laughed at how ironic it was that steven was vegan, whilst jake was probably the meat industry’s biggest customer.

“yeah, maybe the next time we see each other you can cook for me,” y/n could practically hear the smirk in his voice.

“yeah okay, if you don’t bleed all over my furniture the next time you see me.” y/n scoffed.

y/n stepped out of the elevator doors, ready to drag herself into bed and forget about her problems. what she hadn’t expected was for marc to be stood outside his flat door waiting for her to get back from the dance.

“hey! how’d it go kid?”

“not in the mood, goodnight.” y/n sighed, walking past marc.

“hey, hey, hey? slow down, what’s going on?” marc put a hand on y/n’s shoulder, a concerned look on his face.

“it’s fine, i don’t want to talk about it.” y/n rolled her eyes.

“c’mon kid, you can talk to me, steven’ll make you some hot chocolate?” marc smiled nervously.

“you promise?” y/n frowned, averting her eyes from him. the last thing she wanted to do was breakdown in front of the man she considered a father figure.

“i’d force him if it made you feel better,” marc got the keys to his flat out his pocket, smiling as he noticed y/n trying not to laugh, “c’mon talk to us, what happened?”

y/n sat down on the first seat she could find, the couch, and frowned, “it’s embarrassing… i feel like such a loser.”

“oh you poor thing, what happened out there? you could use a hot chocolate i suppose… even though it’s not such a smart idea to have chocolate before bedtime.. sorry, rambling again.. classic me!” steven laughed, grabbing the ingredients he needed from the fridge, “you can talk to us about anything, love! i promise you that none of us will think you’re a loser, since you aren’t one!”

“thanks steven..” y/n sighed, “you remember max?”

“max? the kid who asked you to prom? what’d he do?” marc fronted, immediately abandoning steven’s task of making hot chocolate at the mention of a boy’s name. you’d think he had a child of his own with the way he stood in the kitchen doorway with his hands on his hips.

“he stood me up.” y/n’s voice cracked, as she put her head in her hands.

“i’m so sorry, kiddo,” marc’s tone softened and he left the kitchen to sit next to y/n on the couch, “what an asshole, he’s missing out on the best kid!”

“he didn’t seem to miss much when his tongue was down another girl’s throat.” y/n started crying and marc tensed up, he was truly not the man for the job. comfort was more steven’s thing.

marc put a hand around her shoulder and let her lean on him while she cried, “it’s gonna be okay..”

“it’s not okay!” y/n leaned into him, hugging him tightly as she cried. to be truthful, y/n was thankful that marc, steven and jake were all part of her life. she didn’t have an outstanding father and to have three separate father figures she could look up to instead of her biological father was a miracle.

“you’re still young, you’re gonna have plenty of boyfriends and girlfriends in your life,” he frowned, rubbing circles into her back.

“but i don’t want anyone else, i wanted him!”

“i know, i know… but sometimes things just don’t work out and that’s not your fault, kid,” he rested his head on hers, “you may want this guy now, but trust me you’ll find better.”

“he was so sweet… i don’t get what i did wrong?” she whimpered, marc could practically hear the pain she was in just by her voice.

“hey.” marc pulled y/n away from him and put his hands on her shoulders, looking into her eyes, “this is not your fault, you are a great kid, got it?”

“what went wrong then?”

“he went wrong. you did everything right, okay?” he raised his eyebrows and tilted his head, expecting her to agree.

“i guess so…” y/n mumbled, her sobbing turning into silent tears.

“you look great too, told you the dress was a good choice,” he smiled proudly, silently celebrating that she chose the dress that he recommended.

“you’re just saying that, you have to,” y/n laughed, wiping her face with her arm.

“woah? you calling me a liar? not cool, y/n.” marc crossed his arms over his chest.

jake decided to play a song that marc had been listening to lately, called ‘bahlam maak’. it was a recommendation from layla and jake thought y/n might enjoy it as well. it was slow and calming - way better than whatever they would’ve played at a prom. y/n followed jake’s lead, a small smile growing on her face.

“thank you, jake… this is really nice,” she looked down, “i’ve always wondered what it would feel like to go to a daughter-father dance… i think it would feel something like this.”

jake’s smile grew on his face, pride swelling in his chest. there was always an unspoken father-daughter bond between the two, but to hear her say it made him ecstatic.

“i’ve always wanted to beat up my daughter’s shitty boyfriends, guess we both win, eh?” he smirked, seeing y/n try to stifle her laughs, “seriously, i’ll do it, say the word and he vanishes mysteriously.”

“jake, you can’t kill him,” y/n scoffed, “if anyone’s doing that it’s me.”

“a bit?” he raised an eyebrow.

“okay smart ass, not the time,” he looked at her, clearly unamused, “you’re not difficult to be around at all, you’re an intelligent, beautiful and quick witted young girl and you’ve got a bright future ahead, chiquitita.”

“now i’m crying again,” y/n pouted.

“and i’m still offering to beat this asshole’s ass.”

“you’re just looking for excuses to beat someone up!” y/n protested.

“ah, ya got me,” he chuckled, “i’m gonna let steven make you that hot chocolate now, we did promise.”

“you going home then? or not tonight?” steven asked from the kitchen, as he got back to making the hot chocolate.

“is it okay if i stay here?” y/n rubbed her face with her arm, “there’s some things my dad said that weren’t so nice, but turned out happening anyways… i don’t really want to hear about.. yeah, i’ll stay, if it’s okay?”

y/n eagerly accepted the hot chocolate in a mug labelled ‘world’s best grandpa’, which had been a gift from her to jake. she insisted that originally she wanted to get the dad mug, but they were out of stock. they all knew it was a lie and y/n wanted to poke fun of their age, but also that y/n was too embarrassed at the time to admit she saw them as a father and thought a lighthearted grandpa mug would ease her into being able to say it one day.

“have you ever been stood up before?” y/n asked after a sip of hot chocolate, “i ask you, because jake probably stands people up and marc is marc.”

“oh, countless of times,” steven ignored jake and marc again, “it’s not great, innit?”

“alright, you’ve been sitting here twiddling your thumbs, what’s the problem?” steven stood in front of y/n, hands clasped together and a grin on his face. steven had noticed y/n zoning out at the desk for the last hour whilst he sat on the couch reading. he had the slightest clue as what was on y/n’s mind, but he wanted to help her.

“hm? nothing really,” y/n shrugged leaning back in her chair and trying to look relaxed, “just some stuff.”

steven knelt down in front of her, his hands on her knees, “want to share?”

y/n shrugged again, sighing, “i don’t know, just super stressed… about this stupid test.”

“i think you’ll do great, love, been sat here for god knows long every day of the bloody week, you’re doing great!” steven squeezed her knees for extra emphasis.

“i know, i know i’ve been putting in a lot of effort, but what if it’s not enough? i mean what if i get in there and my brain turns to mush and i completely blank and flunk the test,” y/n paused, “i’m worried this isn’t for me and i’ll let everyone down.”

steven sighed and grabbed y/n’s hands, trying to offer any sort of comfort he could, “if you flunk the test, you can still make up for it with the next one, can’t you?”

“yeah, but this one’s a huge part of my grade, i really really can’t mess this one up,” y/n let go of one of his hands to massage her temples, feeling the stress headache forming, “i don’t know what to do.”

“well, if you want to know my opinion, you’re gonna bloody ace that test and i know it,” steven grinned, “wanna know why?”

“why?” y/n looked back at his eyes.

“because you,” he jabbed a finger to her chest lightly, “are the smartest, most intelligent person that i’ve ever met, i mean it! i mean wow, psychology pfft, i would never have the guts to go for it, too tricky of a topic, far more complicated than the egypt stuff, y’know and i’ve got plenty of the stuff you study in psychology and even i don’t understand it!”

steven’s laughs brought a smile to y/n’s face, “you’re just saying that, you have to.”

“me? lying? does this look like a face that could lie?” steven pouted dramatically, making y/n laugh.

“no, you’re right, you’re far too cute to lie,” y/n pinched one of his cheeks and cupped the other one in her other hand.

“you’re gonna ace it, love, you always do,” he smiles, “don’t worry about flopping the test, you’d still be as intelligent as you were before you took the test, a silly number, or letter isn’t going to change that, darling.”

“thank you, steven.. you’re the best.”

“plus, being ‘round me is sort of exta studying, got all these mental things, you get to see these things up close,” steven laughed tapping the side of his head, “it’s like i’m you’re very own secret lab rat, innit?”

“steven, don’t call yourself a lab rat, you’re my boyfriend and the love of my life, not an experiment for school,” y/n pouted, running a finger down the slope of his nose.

“only joking, promise,” he grinned at her. she always caught steven when he started talking down on himself, he always poked fun at himself and she guessed it was to do it before anyone else did. kind of a way to show people ‘i know whatever you’re going to say, you don’t need to tell me’, but y/n wouldn’t let it slide. no one talks bad about steven, especially steven himself.

“i know, but you’re so amazing, i don’t want you to see yourself any less than you are,” y/n smiled, grabbing onto his hands again, “you’re the best man i’ve ever met, you are honest, funny, empathetic and intelligent… and sexy.”

“y/n!” steven laughed, slightly shocked at the last part.

“just being honest, you are incredibly sexy, whew those new grey trousers of yours, damn.”

“okay, okay, let’s not get carried away now, you.” steven smiled softly, glad that y/n was in a better mood.

“your ass in those trousers, it’s criminal i’m serious, someone needs to arrest you for possession of a weapon, that ass is dangerous.” y/n winked.

“i’m so bloody lucky,” he muttered under his breath before getting into the topic of the ancient egyptians and the myths. he’d usually bounce between the myth and real things, going on about the gods to talking about the pharaohs. he just had so much to say about things, that he couldn’t help but go topic to topic, but y/n found it so endearing. her favourite thing to do is listen to steven talk, he could talk about absolutely anything and y/n could listen to it all day. she was happiest with him.

a/n ; i am still working on requests dw! i just really wanted to write this thing, sorry it’s been a while i’m currently in egypt visiting family :3

nothing was going right for steven that day, he’d woken up late, missed his bus twice, forgotten an umbrella at home, meaning he had to walk in the pouring rain. all odds were stacked against him that day. nothing was going right and it had gotten to him a bit more than he would have liked, but the one thing that really broke him was a stupid, snide comment from donna.

“i really do wonder how you get that girlfriend of yours to stay, if i was her, i would’ve been long gone by now.”

he knows that he shouldn’t let donna get to him, that she’s just a rotten woman that has nothing better to do with her time. but that comment really got to him, not even marc, or jake could cheer him up out of the mood he was in. by the time steven was walking through the front door of his flat, he had tuned both marc and jake out, wanting nothing more than to get into bed and get the awful day over with.

“steven, how was wo- … steven? hey, what’s wrong?” y/n frowned, looking up at her boyfriend’s face, his dampened mood was more than apparent, his furrowed brows was enough evidence of it. she reached up and cupped his cheeks with her hands as gently as she could.

steven sighed, placing his hands over y/n’s and pushing them down, “nothin’, love, just a bit tired.”

y/n frowned, holding onto steven’s hands, “would you like me to make us some tea? maybe you could get changed and you can read something to me?”

steven looked up from their intertwined hands to meet her eyes and he just nodded, feeling too dejected to even speak.

“alright love, i’ll be back,” y/n offered a small smile, which steven couldn’t help but return, although his was much more disingenuous. and y/n could see that. y/n had left him to go to the kitchen and he decided that changing out of his slightly damp clothes was probably a good idea, even if he didn’t want to, he didn’t want to get sick.

“steven, tea’s done if you want it still!” y/n called out from the living room, pulling steven’s attention from the wall he had been staring at for the last five minutes. he let out another sigh and made his way to where y/n would be sitting, his thoughts all jumbled up like a puzzle, yet this time it wasn’t a puzzle that steven was able to solve.

“made your favourite,” y/n smiled as steven sat next to her on the sofa.

“thank you, love,” steven flashed a weak smile.

“i don’t want to bother you.. or y’know, poke my nose where it shouldn’t be, but if something happened, you can talk to me… only if you want to of course, but i’m here for you steven.”

steven took a sip of his tea and hid his face behind the mug, too afraid to admit what donna had said just in case donna was right all along.

“steven. talk to her.”

“shut it already, marc.” steven muttered, rolling his eyes.

“steven… talk to me,” y/n placed a hand on his knee, rubbing it slightly to try comfort him. steven placed his mug down on the coffee table, silently debating whether or not he should open up to y/n about what donna had said.

“was it donna again?” y/n asked softly, steven nodded in response.

“oh baby, i’m sorry,” y/n sighed.

“why do you stay?” steven blurted out, “with me, i mean…”

y/n blinked at him, processing his words, “what?”

“people see us, they think how’d a bloke like him end up with someone as great as her! or-or they see how great you are and how i’m not good enough for you!” the dam had finally broken, he let the tears run down his face and he finally started to open up about what was bothering him.

“steven-“

“why are you with me? love, you could have anyone you ever wanted, i mean it! you could be with someone that people won’t say they’re not good enough for you…”

“steven, i don’t want anyone else, i want you, i don’t care what people think, i think you’re good enough for me, i know you’re good enough for me, doesn’t matter what nasty old donna thinks, i want you,” y/n held onto steven’s hands that were slightly shaking from anxiety, “no one will ever be as good to me as you are, steven, i could never want anyone but you.”

“now i just feel a bit silly,” steven chuckled, trying to lighten the mood.

“you’re not silly, you’re allowed to be upset about things, but nothing anyone says will ever change how i feel about you, steven, i need you to understand that, okay?” y/n smiled at him.

“i wouldn’t be mad.. you know, if.. if you wanted to be.. um, with someone else,” steven gulped trying to keep the tears at bay.

“steven, there is no one else in the world i could want other than you, you make me so happy, my sweet, sweet boy,” y/n cupped his cheeks with her hands, pulling him closer to her, “you are the reason i get up in the morning and the reason i can’t sleep, i want to spend every hour with you that when i need to sleep i can’t, because i don’t want to miss any time i can spend with you, you make my life so much better, i couldn’t possibly look at anyone else when the love of my life is right here in front of me.”

steven stared at y/n with lovestruck eyes, tears pouring down the side of his cheeks as he held onto y/n’s hands that held his face. her words had truly touched him, he often found himself in spirals of self doubt and low self esteem, but she had just hit every insecurity out of his mind.

“i’m so in love with you..” steven whispered.

“i’d hope so steven, we’re kind of dating,” y/n chuckled, trying to lighten his mood.

“so, so, so in love with you.”

y/n leaned towards him and pressed her lips against his, pouring every ounce of love that she had to him into the kiss, words that remained unspoken were heard loud and clear. steven moved a hand from one of hers and reached it behind her head, pulling her closer and deepening the kiss.

“you’re it for me,” y/n spoke barely above a whisper, these were words only for steven.

“thank you, love.” steven smiled, everything was going to be okay, y/n was here and nothing could change that.

“you don’t need to thank me for loving you, steven.” y/n smiled back and pressed a kiss to his cheek.

“think you might’ve missed that one.” steven laughed.

“oh did i now?”

“yeah, think you did, love, my lips are over here all by their lonesome, oh woe is me….” steven dramatically clutched his heart.

“well, we can’t have that can we?”

“no, no we can’t, but y’know i got the perfect solution, i do.”

“do you?” y/n smiled, knowing what he was getting at.

“oh it’s just… oh, let me just show you, bit hard to explain.” steven pressed his lips to y/n’s and slid his hands down her body, landing wrapped around her waist.

synopsis; (requested) teen reader goes on a school field trip to the museum and is rlly excited about it but a couple people in their class are being kinda mean to them. Maybe they go to by something from the gift shop and have a wholesome conversation with Steven about bullies or something?

a/n; ty for the request! ive been dying to write moonsys x teen!reader for the longest time! :3

field trips are always the highlight of the academic year; a whole day where you aren’t expected to do any boring worksheets and get time away from school. well, they tended to be fun for those who got to spend a day outside of school with a friend, but for those like y/n… not so fun!

“hey y/n, what are you up to? trying to make friends with the dead guy in the coffin?” thomas, one of the many people that made y/n’s life hell on a regular basis, leaned over the glass casing that protected the sarcophagus with an almost disgustingly fake smile.

“it’s called a sarcophagus, thomas, maybe if you left me alone for once you’d actually learn something for once,” y/n huffed adjusting their tie, “piss off, will you?”

“fuck off, you neek.” thomas scoffed, standing up straight. classic ‘alpha male’ move to intimidate y/n.

“you’re the one still standing here, i’m trying to do this thing called reading, try it some time.” y/n rolled their eyes, their hand languidly gesturing towards the text of writing going into detail about the artefact.

“you’ll regret that, freak.”

“ooh, big deal,” y/n muttered under their breath as he stormed away. suddenly the text about the sarcophagus seemed much less interesting than it had been prior to their encounter with thomas. school had always been hard for y/n, mainly the social aspect. the academic part was easy, y/n passed all their exams with flying colours. when they started secondary school, they couldn’t tell which group of people they fit in with, or how they could figure that out. but before they could’ve had a chance to figure it out, everyone was already in cliques and groups, it was like everyone else just knew what to do and y/n was a complete outsider.

“you’ll regret that freak, blah blah blah, oooh so scary,” y/n mumbled, rolling their eyes and walking away from the display, “you’ll regret these fucking nuts in your mouth.”

“ello there! how can i help you?” y/n looked up to notice they were stood at a gift shop stand, a man with the name tag ‘steven’, smiling at them.

“unless you know a thing or two about beating teenagers up, not sure if you have anything of interest for me, steven,” y/n chuckled, noticing a basket of hippo plushies. taweret.

“how do you… know my name?” he raised an eyebrow and y/n just tapped on their shirt where steven’s name tag was on himself, “oh! yeah, always forget that’s there, classic me.”

“that’s okay,” y/n laughed, picking up a taweret plush, “how much is this?”

“twenty quid, bit overpriced i’ll say,” steven rubbed the back of his head. y/n dug through their school blazer pockets, searching for their wallet to see if they could afford the taweret plush. they opened the wallet to find only fifteen pounds and sighed.

“five pounds short, thanks for the help, i probably would’ve been picked on for buying a toy anyways,” y/n laughed putting the plush back onto the pile of identical hippos.

“by that plonker that bothered you earlier? knew he seemed like a wrong’un,” steven shook his head, “tell you what! you give me the tenner and i’ll give you the plush and it’ll be our secret, yeah?”

“won’t you get into trouble?” y/n lowered their voice.

“nothin’ old steven over here can’t handle!” he tapped on his name tag with a goofy smile, “save the fiver for a meal deal, or somethin’.”

y/n smiled shyly, taking the ten pound note out of their wallet and sliding it to steven and then passing the taweret plush to him to scan, “thanks, steven.”

“taweret is a lovely goddess, goddess of childbirth and fertility, but also of children and protection, so who knows, maybe she’ll protect you from those bloody plonkers that keep botherin’ you, yeah?” steven spoke, whilst scanning the plushie’s barcode and putting the money into the till, but also sliding his own ten pound note in along with y/n’s.

“you think so?” y/n smiled sadly.

“met her once, lovely hippo woman goddess, she is,” steven nodded, smiling to himself knowing that he was telling the truth.

“oh yeah? and how does steven the friendly neighbourhood gift-shopist happen to meet taweret an egyptian goddess?” y/n laughed, playing along.

“oh you know, we go way back we do! steven of the gift shop and taweret egyptian goddess of childbirth, like two peas in a pod,” steven laughed with y/n, “happened to tell her all about this kid who was having trouble with some other kids at school, you know what she said?”

“what’d she say?”

“she said, ‘not on my watch!’, fixed those bullies right up, she did,” steven did a horrible impression of a woman’s voice, but nonetheless it made y/n laugh and he was happy he was able to cheer them up.

“you’ll have to thank her on my behalf,” y/n smiled, “i’m y/n.”

“ooh, lovely name, innit?”

“you think so?” y/n made a face, hinting that they didn’t agree.

“i do, sounds like the name of a very smart young person,” he stated matter-of-factly.

“well, you’d be right about that,” y/n smirked smugly.

“year eleven!! it’s time to get lined up, please finish what you’re doing and come here!” a man raised his voice not too far away from where y/n was standing.

“that’s my cue, thank you, steven,” y/n smiled at the man and made their way over to their teacher, the taweret plush tucked under their arm tightly.

“steven, the friendly neighbourhood gift-shopist, huh?”

“what? i thought it was sweet,” steven smiled at the reflective surface that marc’s voice came from.

A/N: oh I've been wanting to write for them! Ah, thank you for requesting! Takes place after the events of MoonKnight, I don't exactly know how to go with this but still! I'm so sorry it's taken this long to come out, by the way.

"Mom? You found dad?" You'd question, watching as your mother rushed from room to room, having almost immediately began packing when she got the okay to visit, with you this time. "Yes!" She looked to you almost immediately, smiling. She was so excited, you realized, seeing as she ran to you.

She caressed your cheek, swiping her thumb against you for a moment before tucking hair behind your ear, "I'm going to see him, okay?" She spoke, nodding to you as she kissed your forehead. "And, you know what? You're coming with me..." She remembered, lighting up once more. "What?"

You were shocked, to say the least. You hadn't seen your father in such a long time, and just being told you were seeing him in a few mere days through flight?

You weren't ready at all, having to be packed almost immediately. It was safe to say that you weren't exactly too fond of the idea, seeing as he left you and your mother seamlessly and with divorce papers. He hasn't even tried talking to you either.

But still, he was your father and you knew your mother wanted you to see him. She's even forgave him for all he's done! That was unbelievable, honestly!

But still, here you are, two flights, a bus ride and a car rental later you stood at a cafe with your suitcase besides you, awaiting a coffee for your mother and a muffin for yourself.

Why did she just have to leave you here? You didn't even know where you were, but here you were, waiting. Why'd she even need to check with the hotel? You two already checked with the hotel through phone when you two made it to the cafe, seeing as the room was still being cleaned.

Maybe she needed a breather? But she would've told you so.. What was going on? Maybe she was going to the shop next-door to buy something as a surprise? There was some pretty cool potential souvenirs.. That would be a pretty great surprise..

Suddenly your name was called, bringing you to look over at the server, greeting them with a smile and grabbing what was ordered by the both of you, before quickly making your way to an indoor seat.

You placed the hot beverage onto the table and began to eat the muffin, being quick to text your mother, asking where she was. She was taking forever, in your opinion..

Until, finally, she texted back.

Go outside, was all it said. And you did, not expecting much. You had made sure to hook the luggage onto your arm as you carried the coffee and your phone, still eating the muffin you ordered as you exited, not expecting much.

But, there stood your mother and a rather worried looking Marc, not really paying attention. That was your dad, you thought.

And you froze up.

Your mother was quick to take the half-ate muffin and the still warm coffee from you, seeing as you were primarily in shock. "Dad?" You'd ask, taking a few steps back. "I thought we'd meet up at.. I thought.." You struggled, unable to truly get out what you wanted to say.

And thus, you were at the hotel. Your father sitting on the ground, legs crossed and now looking up at you like a child would to the stars.

"We have a daughter?" Your father would ask, primarily to himself, having finally been filled in on many things that had happened to your father. "How old are you?" The man asked, sounding as if he had a British accent. "I'm.." You paused, looking to your mother. "She's a freshman in highschool, Steven." She was quick to reply, being rather kind to your father.

"What? You're.. Four.. Fourteen? Fifteen?" He'd ask, looking to the woman for confirmation, "Fourteen?" He'd ask once more, seeing the woman nod. "Oh, Layla.." He'd say sadly. "Oh, don't apologize," Layla was quick to say, "I mean, it wasn't as if you knew that you left us."

"But.." You were quick to stop any more speaking. "You're.. Steven, Steven's in control right now, right?" You'd ask, deciding to sit down in front of him slowly. "Yeah! Oh, love, I'm so sorry you haven't been able to see your father.. If I knew I would've.." He trailed off, "Don't apologize. You seem cool."

That made him smile, looking at you with such love that only a father could have. "You wouldn't mind telling us more about you? Well, I mean.. More like me? Well, Marc hasn't seen you in forever so maybe you could count him too?"

"Yeah, yeah.." You grinned, moving to hug the man. "I'll tell you about whatever."
