Here's one of my dream concept costume ideas for Max thats been in my brain.

I do have a entire costume overview for the entire flock but that will come in due time.

My background is in costumes and casting.

I would love to have Max in a brown leather jacket very inspired by the manga.

This would play into more meaning thanjust a small tribute to the manga,it would be old and oversized, having belonged to someone else.

On the back would be varsity letters (or whatever you call them) spelling " BATCHELDER"

YA THAT'S RIGHT! It's Jebs old jacket ! Max wears it all through out the angel expirement, even after the makeover scene she can't part with it. It wouldn't be until the very end when she "kills" Ari and Jeb delivers the line "you killed your brother", he'd grab her sleeve and she'd pull it off herself before flying off.

Added details to the jacket : add wing slits for obvious reasons .

There would be faint outlines added of other patches Jeb had unstitched over the years leaving the jacket mostly blank. Maybe out of paranoia or security.

This could be a university jacket but is more likely a military jacket (side note : maybe Jeb wanted to be a pilot before choosing to expirement on his own childern)

There can even be a flashback scene about how Jeb left with Max holding or putting on the jacket . In the first book,she doesn't even know she's been wearing her Dad's jacket.

I just love having costume pieces actually tie into the narrative.

okay but fang canonically doesn't talk much/doesn't like talking, so here are my headcanons for fang's tiktok/youtube/reels/whatever:

he writes insanely long paragraphs and uses text to speech and just points at each thing as the robotic voice is saying it

his videos are just him silently going about his day. each time he gets a comment asking him to say something, he films himself opening his mouth, pausing, and then flipping off the camera

Ok but with the last one imagine if one day Fang’s replying to comments and is like ‘ugh ok fine I’ll post a video with talking’ and they post a new video but it’s just like ten minutes of Nudge talking about random stuff for the entire time and there’s a caption that says ‘I never said I would be the one talking’

What do you think the whiteocsts fed the flock as kids?

Here's the thing: I can't imagine they'd be fed anything that didn't fullfill their needs. They probably had a very well-balanced meal plan with plenty of fruits, vegetables, starches, and proteins. They're expensive experiments— the Institute has to do maintenance on them for that cost to be worth it, and everyone knows it.

The quality and quantity is where I imagine things fall apart. Probably ingredients from boxes labelled "not fit for human consumption" (eaten IRL by prison and military populations). Something that was often taken away as punishment, or withheld due to testing. Even if it was well-balanced, it wasn't good, which is probably one of the reasons that Max treats good food like the holy grail even though she had Iggy's cooking for four years.

when they first meet, dylan zeroes in and fucking decks max, and it takes max pinning him to the ground to get him to stop. he doesn't even know what came over him, and max doesn't know what's going on either, but suddenly she weirdly likes this new guy?? (but apparently the feeling isn't mutual)

Depending on how left of human the flock is, there’s a non-zero chance that post-Eraser fight one of them has the innocent thought of “oh, free meat” and immediately had to step themselves back for a few minutes and think about where that came from.

concept for an MR fanfic that's been rattling around in my head for a few years:

at the beginning of book 2, it actually is the FBI that finds the flock at the hospital, not just itex in a trench coat. the FBI is very interested in these bird kids, and they see a unique opportunity with fang's injury.

they fake fang's death and whisk him off to a secret lab to study him.

the rest of the flock—devastated by fang's "death," unsure how they want to proceed—goes to live with anne (who, again, actually works for the FBI in this version), with the promise that they will be studied "non-invasively" and given grief counseling (which they all think is bullshit, especially max, but this is their most stable option at the moment).

fang is studied intensively while recovering from his near-fatal injury. (i know he recovered in, like, two days in canon. i'm not doing that here.) someone from the FBI tells him that the flock thinks he's dead; no one is coming to save him. he's not sure if he believes them. most of the time, he's too exhausted to think about it.

max grows more and more restless with being tied down, so to speak, but the rest of the flock seems to appreciate the momentary stability, especially while they're still grieving. she tolerates it as best she can, thinking that it would be much easier to tolerate if fang were here.

slowly, though, max grows suspicious of anne—overhearing strange snippets of phone calls, not believing when anne just smiles and says everything is fine. max and iggy snoop around in anne's office, and that's when they stumble upon the truth: fang never died. he's been alive this whole time.

cue the badass rescue scene, with iggy and gazzy's bombs wreaking havoc on the government lab. fang is weak from the experiments when they find him, but they manage to break him out and make their escape.

once they're finally far away and safe (as safe as they ever are, anyway) there's a teary, heartfelt reunion. fang cries, too, because he wasn't sure whether the flock would ever find him.

We are not judging how bad the movie is, we are judging which adapted the book the worst. There are good movies that are bad adaptions.

Propaganda below the cut (spoilers may apply)

The Giver:

Completely changed the book making a story with great characters and subtle themes into a generic ya dystopia with stupid teen characters and no themes

They turned it into like this teen angst dystopia that missed all the nuance and love that poured into the original book. They were clearly trying to capitalize off of Hunger Games/Divergent and failed miserably. The original book was a message on totalitarian governments and how history repeats itself. It's so frustrating to see movies strip away messages like that and just make it a cash grab.

Shallow interpretation, tried to please everyone, also Taylor Swift was there?

Persuasion:

They massacred my girl!! That is not Anne Elliot!! The whole point is that she's beaten down and thinks she's missed her chance at happiness and is bullied by her family, not making mean and snarky nods to the camera :( They completely missed the whole point of the dynamic and it's SICKENING! They also cut Mrs Smith who is arguably one of the most important characters as she highlights Anne's lack of focus on title and rank and her family's comparative obsession with it + it's only through her that Anne learns about Mr Elliot's true nasty nature. Also they cut the 'I am half agony, half hope' line from Wentworth's letter at the end so what's even the POINT of adapting it if you don't have that!! Oh my god!! My poor favourite Austen novel :( (I do want to make it very very clear that my issues with the movie come from the writing and adaptation and not in any way from the race blind casting. The casting is superb and I'm genuinely so disappointed that they got such a bad adaptation bc so many of the cast are literally perfect)

Where do I even start? They tried to 'modernize' both the protagonist and the love story and managed to take out everything that made it good in the first place. Anne Elliot in the novel is quiet and good and helpful, full of regret. In the movie, she constantly turns to the audience to mock everyone around her, feeling so much better than everyone, to the point where nobody understands why Captain Wentworth would still be in love with her, or have fallen in love with her in the first place. Eight years before the plot starts, she broker her engagement to him because she was persuaded by a family friend that it was a bad idea. No way would movie!Anne have let herself be persuaded. They just tried to do a Fleabag/Emma type of thing without understanding what made either the novel or those two things work and thereby ruined it completely

Whoever made this didn't understand the point of the novel at all. They completely screwed up the character of Anne Elliot (the protagonist), which in turn screws the rest of the movie, as the original story only works because Anne is the way she is. Also, it's a period piece but the characters are talking in modern slang the entire time. And not in a clever way but in a very cringey one. If Jane Austen knew, she'd probably turn in her grave, and rightfully so.

Maximum Ride:

The storyline makes absolutely no sense, and the movie is nothing like the book. You could've given the movie an entirely different name and and keep the plot I wouldn't bat an eye

the movie's just bad mate

Horrendous low budget netflix movie with effects so bad they make me feel physically ill and acting so wooden the cast is in danger of being attacked by lumberjacks. The story already wasn't the best and the film somehow made it worst. I came in with nostalgia for my dear kids with bird wings and left never to be the same again.
