Blood Orange - “Freetown Sound”
There is no better time to listen to “Freetown Sound.” Between Dev Hynes‘s vocals, the plethora of female vocals (Deborah Harry, Empress Of, Nelly Furtado, just to name a few) the strength in the storytelling and in the spoken word, this album is Hyne’s breakthrough. “Freetown Sound” is an exploration of blackness today. It is also a multi-genre piece of art deserving the accolades Kendrick Lamar and D’Angelo received last year.

Schoolboy Q - “Blank Face LP”
Schoolboy Q, whether he wants to admit it or not, has stepped back into his game after releasing “Blank Face.” This is gangsta rap, and Schoolboy’s pulling all the funky, and at times genius stops for this album.

Yung - “A Youthful Dream”
Because we all need something to makes us occasionally feel like a punk in the summer. Don’t be the last to get hooked on these guys. Another Fat Possum find, I think these punk babes from Denmark have the potential take America on in a big way.

This is an album to experience. It’s multi-layered production almost makes Mitski, with her unique and multifaceted vocals, more real. It’s feels-y and hands-y, everything you’d want something titled “Puberty 2” to be. At only 31 minutes, it feels like a fleeting sunset, kind of like young adulthood.
