how do you scan/ photo your traditional art? it always looks so good!

Thank youuu!!! I tried my best to explain but I feel like I’m bad at that so..lmk if you need anything more specific or are confused asf 😭

For most of my pieces I upload a clear photo of the traditional piece into IbisPaint X (though I’m sure this’ll work on any other software), make a new layer above that and set the blending mode to Divide. I color pick from the paper and fill the Divide layer with that color completely, which quickly erases the entire background!! You can then switch back to the art layer and clean up/erase anything!! You can also merge the Divide layer into the photo layer then click “Clear White (Color)” which will make the background transparent and leave Just the drawing so you can layer pieces and mess with filters or the colors a lot easier

If it’s something without color then I’ll either just raise the brightness and contrast and Clear White again, or use the “Extract Line Drawing” filter IbisPaint has (or whatever adjacent thing your software has), and you can use clipping/mask layers or filters to change or add color to that if so desired :p

#on my older posts i just fucked around with my phones photo settings which is super finicky with colored pieces #but gives a different look #I’m just too lazy to do that and digitizing them allows me to put a lot more things together #and erase shit #asks

I’m trying so hard not to post about Sayaka Maizono again and part of me is saying it’s because i should save the art/text posts i have to post later in the vague idea of being someone who uploads regularly instead of sporadically and then disappearing for a month and then repeating that cycle but in truth i know its because i want to appear at least somewhat normal and not obsessed to a strange degree.
