Seoul is Love.
You will always remember your first trip out with your best friend
Stuck in China. Might as well make the most of it. Daytrip to Hangzhou. Pretty. Peaceful.
a travel junkie’s nightmare/ The plight of the flight
By this time, I would have gotten over jet lag and could be dreading every workday that I need to get through.
That’s how cope after vacationing in a different time zone.
I was supposed to leave for the US for a full two week hiatus, with a weekend in Shanghai to officially kick off the birthday trip (because Shanghai is the best party place hands down)
But I never really got past Shanghai x.x
Part 1
Monday. Aug 20. I was scheduled to fly out of Shanghai going to San Francisco. A friend was able to get me a buddy pass because she’s working in United (awesome perks!) Everything went on smoothly. There were no long lines and flight is on time and upon boarding, this welcomed me,a business class seat. Love.
As i settled in my fab seat, captain announced that they are just sorting out some problems with the pin lights on the plane. But after 3 hours and several episodes of family guy and the big bang theory, they cancelled the trip. Turned out its not just a pin light problem after all. So we all got off the plane, through immigration and the carousels to pick up luggages (which was a very tedious process as I discovered)
With just very little RMB to spare, i took the Maglev to come home to my friend’s place. (I was very lucky to have a Pam to adopt me during my "extended" stay in Shanghai, it will be a nightmare to be stranded in the airport x.x) I was exhausted but I was willing to try catching a flight the next day. My friend in the US told me that the flight next day will be delayed for a good 2 hours so I didn’t need to go there early.
Part II.
I went against my friends advice and decided to go to the airport early. When I got there, the line was already a kilometer long (this was mainly because of the cancelled flight the day before) It took me around 4 hours to get in front of the check in counter
But again I was lucky to get seats, and business class nonetheless. Boarding was late by an hour. All in all, flight was delayed by 3 hours. So when we boarded everything was rushed, in less than 15 mins plane started cruising the runway. We were running really fast in prep for take off, but just as we were about to get airborne, there was a loud blasting sound from below and the plane jolted a bit. I remember the guy in our aisle saying “that can’t be good” and he was right. Shortly after, the captain announced we were going back to the gates. At this point, I called my friend and asked her to place me in the next flight going to the US. Knowing all the procedures from the day before, i rushed through immigration and baggage claims (w/c took me still a good 2 hours). I headed to check in for the Los Angeles flight.
Part III.
I made it in time for check in The LAX flight was scheduled at 8.
At this point I was having second thoughts about pushing through with the trip. When I sat in my seat, I distracted myself by watching mirror mirror w/c isn’t a big success since soon after I was having palpitations and I was wishing I was off the plane. I started praying for the flight to be cancelled and low and behold, after 30 mins, the captain asked us to deplane. I was more than happy to get off and go back to my Shanghai home. Im staying the rest of the week and going back home to the PH but sadly with broken spirit.
This is more heart breaking than a breakup.Like some things, maybe this isn’t meant to be...
for now.
This right here will seal this chapter in my travel life.
