HOUSING: subarbs with maya fan
OCCUPATION: kindergarten teacher at fairford elementary, part time nature camp counselor to make ends meet during the summer months
Ava Jameson, a fiercely independent spirit with a deep love for nature, has woven her life's journey amidst the breathtaking landscapes of Fairford. Since the tender age of five, she has resided in this quaint town, her existence etched with the hues of resilience and untamed passion. Life dealt her an early blow when her mother passed away suddenly, leaving her and her father to navigate the world as a tightly knit duo.
From an early age, Ava found solace in the embrace of nature. The towering trees whispered secrets only she could decipher, and the murmuring streams held her sorrows as they trickled through her fingers. Fairford, with its sprawling meadows and winding trails, became her playground and sanctuary. It was within these natural wonders that she felt most alive, a spirited soul deeply connected to the earth's rhythms.
As the years unfolded, Ava's indomitable spirit propelled her forward, shaping her into the headstrong and determined woman she is today. Kindness flows through her veins, woven into every interaction she has with her loved ones and the little souls she nurtures as a dedicated kindergarten teacher. With unwavering dedication, she creates a safe and inclusive space where children flourish, their imaginations nurtured under her watchful gaze.
The strength of her character extends beyond the walls of the classroom, manifesting in her enduring relationship with her fiancée, Maya. After a dorky high schooler oodled over her picking up his sibling from meeting Ava's class, Maya and Ava struck up a conversation that lasted for hours. The rest they say, is history. Discussions turned to coffee, which turned to texts, late-night phone calls and eventually professed feelings over a glass of wine. They have embarked on a journey of love, support, and shared passions for four and a half years. Maya is the heartbeat that resonates with Ava, a steadfast partner who understands her need for the great outdoors, embraces her headstrong and stubborn nature and loves her sincerely for her kindness and a true sense of self. Ava couldn't be happier to be beginning her next chapter.
Ava's athletic prowess shines through as she navigates the trails of Fairford, her agile footsteps leaving imprints on the very ground she traverses. With each stride, she feels a sense of freedom and liberation, the wind whispering secrets in her ear and the sun kissing her skin. It is in these moments, amidst nature's splendor, that she feels most aligned with her true self.
As Ava continues to dance through life, her spirit anchored in love, resilience, and an unyielding connection to the natural world, she leaves an indelible mark on those fortunate enough to cross her path. Her determination to carve her own path, coupled with her compassionate nature, paves the way for a life filled with purpose, warmth, and the vibrant beauty of the great outdoors.
"Mr. Lin is going to be your father-in-law, Aves. You don't have to be so formal." She reminded her as she leaned herself into the kiss. "Lin Fan is harmless. She mused, running her hand gently over Ava's hip. "But yeah, she's expecting you. She'll be home all day, so whatever works." Maya allowed herself to take a quick glance at what Ava was making for the week but still was relieved when the attention was suddenly put on her. "Aw. My real-life Snow White." She nuzzled her face into her fiancee's neck, thankful that she no longer smelled like baby ducks and dirt. Not that she wouldn't be attached to her hip if she was. "Nothing too exciting. My harbor tour this afternoon was like, all old people. They're hard to please, but I swear they all thought I was the cutest thing ever because I got so many tips. And we didn't even get to see as much as we normally do." She explained.
Ava couldn't help but chuckle, her affection for Maya evident in her warm smile. "Alright, alright," she teased playfully, savoring the sweet intimacy of Maya's kiss. "I'll remember to drop the formality with Mr. Lin." She relaxed into Maya's touch, feeling a sense of ease wash over her as she nuzzled into her fiancee's neck. Maya's presence was like a comforting embrace, and Ava couldn't help but feel grateful for the love they shared. "Snow White, huh?" Ava's eyes sparkled with amusement as she playfully teased Maya back. "Well, I'm glad I smell presentable now," she joked, remembering the earlier encounter with the baby ducks. Ava listened with interest as Maya shared her day's experiences, nodding along with a smile. "Sounds like your harbor tour went well, despite the older crowd," she replied. "You have a way of winning hearts, my charming tour guide."
The love and pride in Ava's voice were evident as she spoke about her soon-to-be wife. Maya's charisma and warmth never failed to amaze her. With a gentle squeeze of Maya's hand, Ava leaned in for another tender kiss, savouring the quiet joy of their shared moments together. In each other's arms, they found comfort and solace, knowing that no matter what the day brought, they had each other's love to rely on.
Her mom had called her right after dinner, so for about 10 minutes or so after their meal, she'd been on the phone talking to her perched on the bed in their bedroom. Now that she was off the phone though, she was heading back into the kitchen to make sure Ava didn't need any help. "My mom says hey," Maya said as she made her way across the kitchen to her fiancee, wrapping her hands around Ava from behind as she slinks behind her, and because she's a few inches taller than Ava, rests her head on her shoulder."You smell good." She smiles softly as she takes in the scents of their body wash. "I'm glad you showered when you got home. You smelled like outside." To be fair, she did love the smell of outside, but only when she was outside and within close reach of her wife.
Ava couldn't help but smile at her fiancee's words, her body comfortably leaning back into the other's touch and pressing a kiss to Maya’s cheek. "How's she and Mr. Lin doing? Did you tell her I'm going to stop by for those rsvp stamps tomorrow?" They'd been together for years, and the shorter woman was still too intimidated by Maya's father to call him anything other than Mr. Lin. She set her knife down after chopping the last of the salad greens, focusing on the face resting on her chin. "I'd hope so, I was in there a long time, the kiddos had me practically crawling through the mud, rescuing a baby duck." She grimaced at the thought of the mud, no matter how adorable the animal was. "So, tell me, tell me, how was your day?" She smiled.

location: the jameson-fan kitchen
Ava hums a soft tune as she moves about the kitchen, the comforting scent of dinner still lingering in the air. The clinking of dishes fills the space as she cleans up, her mind drifting away from the demands of lesson planning. Meal prep becomes her welcomed distraction, a way to find solace in the familiar rhythm of chopping, dicing, and arranging ingredients. She gathers fresh vegetables and wholesome staples of the future Jameson-Fan household, her hands moving with a sense of purpose. As she preps the meals for the rest of the week, her thoughts drift to her aching knees and back, the hot sun having sun-burnt her face after trapesing through the outdoors with a crew of second-grade bug enthusiasts. As the evening sun casts a warm glow through the kitchen window, she smiles as the other enters the room, a tired sigh escaping her lips and a smile crossing her face. "Hey, you."
"Thanks," Tamara smiles as she sets her bag and towel on the chair. She keeps one eye on the kids while she gets settled and pulls out a cold soda from the cooler she brought. "Would you like one?" Tamara offers to her neighbor. "We have Coke, Sprite, and a few Capri Suns if you're feeling nostalgic."
Ava returns Tamara's smile, appreciating the friendly gesture. She watches as Tamara gets settled and pulls out a cold soda from her cooler, the fizzy refreshment enticing in the warm summer air. Ava's eyes light up at the offer, grateful for the opportunity to quench her thirst. "Thank you so much! A Coke sounds perfect," she replies with enthusiasm. The mention of Capri Suns brings a nostalgic twinkle to her eye, a reminder of carefree childhood days. "What have you been up to these days? The kids are getting so big."
A bright smile appears from beneath the shadow of Romy's bucket hat. "Thanks."
She spreads out her towel and plops down, the deck chair dipping amicably under her weight. The sun sits heavy in the sky like a pad of butter in a hot skillet. Its rays warm her skin. If she closes her eyes, she could pretend she's back in Hawaii. Kind of.
Probing the depths of her tote bag, she extracts a beat-to-hell paperback copy of Ray Bradbury's Dandelion Wine. It's her favorite summer read. She's about to dive back into its dog-eared pages, but in a sudden spark of curiosity, looks to the other woman. "What are you reading?" She's aware she is probably being a bother, but she'd always been interested in other's poolside reads.
Ava looks up from her own deck chair, a smile brightening her face. She sets her book down and leans forward, happy to engage in conversation. "Oh, this?" she says, holding up her book. "It's called 'Where the Crawdads Sing' by Delia Owens. I've heard great things about it, so I thought I'd give it a try."
She gestures towards Romy's book with a playful grin. "Dandelion Wine, huh? I've heard of it but haven't gotten around to reading it yet. Is it as magical as they say?" Her tone carries a genuine curiosity, as if she's eager to hear the other's thoughts on the beloved summer read.
the pool isn't somewhere she frequents often for a myriad of reasons: personal insecurity, annoyance of all the screaming children, and hatred of being splashed to name a few. but it doesn't seem like it's too bad, today. that is until a group on rowdy kids begin to splash as soon as she enters , bag in hand and searching for an empty seat. she had let out a quiet hey as they moved closer to ava, though it hadn't seemed to be heard until a moment later. her bag set on the chair at the confirmation, aviva moves hair out of her face before she speak again. "i was just warning you about them ---" hand gestures to the kids, who seemingly are just in their own world. "don't want you to get splashed and ruin your vibe, yeah?"
Ava's eyes narrow as she takes in the rowdy group of kids splashing around, their energy bouncing off the water. She lets out a quiet sigh, her hopes for a chill poolside experience dashed. Moving closer to an empty seat with her bag in hand, she catches the attention of Aviva. Ava gives a nod of thanks, her expression appreciative. "Hey, thanks for the heads up," she says, a hint of relief in her voice. "Don't wanna ruin my vibe with an unexpected splash, you know?" She adjusts herself, keeping a safe distance from the wild splashing zone. "Sometimes all I want is some peace and quiet by the pool, but I guess today's not that day," she adds with a smirk, acknowledging the chaotic pool atmosphere.
——- Normally just lounging at the pool wasn’t something elliot did , but he was trying to do more these days since coming to town . so here he was , then he walked over with a notebook and a bag in hand , just with a few things he could possibly need during his time out here , just in case . asking the first person he saw a question and the answer he got left him a bit puzzled before shrugging . ❝ okay -- thanks , but not really what i asked actually , ❞ he said as nice as possible , offering a warm smile before setting his stuff on the chair quick and gently walking back up to her . ❝ i was just asking if you wanted to join me for a drink . what better way to relax by a pool then with a cold drink , am i right ? ❞ he gave a nervous but still friendly smile -- not usually one to reach out to others unless it was via his work .
Ava glances up, a hint of surprise in her eyes as Elliot approaches her with a notebook and a bag in hand. She takes in his friendly smile and listens attentively to his words. A sense of curiosity tugs at her, intrigued by his invitation. She chuckles softly at his comment, appreciating his candour. "You're right, I apologize for the misunderstanding," she replies with a warm smile. "And you're absolutely right about a cold drink being the perfect companion for poolside relaxation."Ava pauses for a moment, considering his offer, and then nods, her smile growing more inviting. "I'd love to join you for a drink."
The moment Tamara got to the pool with her son and a few of his friends, the kids immediately rushed to jump into the pool. Meanwhile, Tamara went to scope out an empty chair to set up and lounge back on. "Sorry. You're not using this one?" Tamara confirmed as she pointed to the chair next to the woman.
No need to apologize. It's all yours," she responds graciously. As Tamara settles in, Ava's mind briefly drifts to her own aspirations. She watches the kids joyfully splashing in the pool, their laughter echoing in her ears. A flicker of longing passes through her as she envisions a future where she and Maya might have their own children to bring to the pool. The thought fills her heart with a mixture of excitement and anticipation. Ava brought her attention back to the present moment, ready to embrace the poolside camaraderie and perhaps strike up a conversation with her new neighbor.
MAYA: I just want to get it done super early, but maybe I'm putting a little too much on my to-do list. i just feel like we'll be able to enjoy our engagement more if we're not stressing about wedding plans so much. idk maybe i'm going too fast here

AVA: you're damn right.
AVA: good good, I'll call the cake lady tomorrow.
AVA: I mean, if there's a window, there's a way. but yes, that was my plan.
AVA: can't wait to see you pledge your allegiance to me today in my lap over and over. 👀🔥 even on this bogus holiday.
MAYA: And one less thing to stress out about.
MAYA: Oh, shh. You're a little biased, aren't you? Considering you're marrying me and all.
MAYA: One of us is incredibly handsy and one of us is incredibly sleepy. Does not seem like it balances each other out very well.
MAYA: I think something just comes over me at pride. It was like an out-of-body experience where I was so hyped up about being bisexual, our first pride as an engaged couple, and definitely the seltzers. I just wanted to climb inside of you and live there.
MAYA: Is this you telling me I can wake you up at 3 in the morning on a school night 👀
MAYA: I mean, always.
AVA: Good. You know, I can help with something if you need me. I can get our digital invite together or like call the cake place to confirm what flavor we liked. Are you 100% sold on lemon rhubarb?
AVA: I'm a biased and lucky bitch, what can I say.
AVA: Well, it's good to know that there's more than meets the eye. 🤔
AVA: Pride is fucking euphoric, and I'm so glad you had that experience and listen, White Claws can be dangerously delicious. Parading you around with a rock on your finger is kind of the best.
AVA: Climb on in...🙈
AVA: Deal. How's tomorrow night? Fireworks sound like a nice little backdrop, and I've got nature camp stuff tomorrow. 👀
Ava looks up from her reclined position, a friendly smile gracing her lips. She shakes her head lightly and gestures toward the vacant chair. "No, not at all. It's all yours," she replies warmly. The bustling poolside ambiance seems to fade momentarily as the two women connect in this small interaction. Ava leans back, ready to enjoy the poolside oasis while welcoming the company of her new neighbour.
MAYA: 🥺🥺🥺🥺 very very down.
MAYA: My heart is going to EXPLODE, Ava. Looking all beautifully fancy!!!! Getting spun around and smooched!!!! Seriously recommend this whole love thing.
MAYA: Oh, we're absolutely sealing our marital vows or whatever. We both know how tired and clingy you get after you drink though, so if not right after, that might be a good way to wake up.
AVA: 🥰🥰🥰 good. wedding song unlocked.
AVA: LISTEN, mine too. You're the most beautiful person to like ever exist. I can't wait!!! 10/10 would recommend it. Everyone should be jealous because this love thing is the shit.
AVA: Awesome sauce lol.
AVA: You're correct, though we also both know how handsy you get when you drink, so I'd say let's keep our options open 😂 aka, you were the cutest at pride last weekend.
AVA: At night or in the AM, I'm down, always. Are you hungry?
Ava reclined in the cheap, blue beach chair, savouring the warmth of the sun on her skin, her eyes focused on the clear sky and sound around her. Laughter and splashes fill the air, creating a lively atmosphere. She watches the playful interactions of children and the relaxed camaraderie of friends between the pages of her book creased at the bottom of her chair. The pool becomes a sanctuary of joy and relaxation, offering respite from the outside world. "Oh, uh, sorry, what? I think the chair over there is open."
MAYA: It's gonna be great.
MAYA: (stop if I think of our first dance as a married couple being to at last i will cry)
MAYA: you're already thinking about that, huh?
AVA: The best. You're the best.
AVA: (well, it's kind of sorta been on my playlist for like ever. so, if you're down, so am I)
AVA: I mean, absolutely. You're beautiful, I get to spin you around in a pretty dress and kiss you all day.
AVA: Plus, don't we gotta, like, seal our marital vows or whatever?
