âIâve had so much pumpkin juice to drink tonight, I might be sick, but in a good way. Â I think.â
âTonight is just pumpkin everything -- I can barely handle the pie and the pasties, I donât know if I can handle the juice--â
âCheers for thaâ unnecessary opinion.â
âThen you could have kept that to yourself -- then again, if you like talking to yourself, thatâs interesting--â
âI wouldnât go in there if I were you.â
âDo you realize that saying that just makes it all the more tempting, right?â
Dunno.
âThatâs a surprise--â
âCould you hand me those mint sprigs?â Â Albus said, hovering over his work. Â âIâm working on a Volubilis potion. Â I think itâll be great to have for Halloween, huh?â
âUh yeah --â reaching over to grab the sprig of leaves, she was just passing by the classroom, when she recognized a familiar face, âwhat does it do?â cocking a brow as she sat herself down on the nearest stool.
Remind me again why I decided to keep Potions.Â
âMight have some use in the future? It depends on where you go and I guess what you want, it could just be a pile of unnecessary work, but at least itâs occasionally interesting? From what I heard thatâs the case, but I donât have to live through it -- Iâm probably the worse person to ask--â
âYes, exactly. An entire year and in that time you shouldnât be a stranger. Iâm sure weâll have lots of fun together.â
âIâll hold you to that --â grinning as she knew that she wouldnât mind his company in the slightest. It wasnât lost on her that they were getting closer to the castle and she still needed to grab her things from her compartment, âI need to grab my things -- Iâll see you around, yeah?âÂ
âA smart guy, that one. Brings a new perspective to things and always there for you. Thatâs Albus.â Sterling nodded, listening intently. âWe still got time to figure it out though, right? Iâm sort of doing the same. A job involving charms would be ideal and studying werewolves and whatnot interest me quite a bit as well. So youâre not alone about working it out. Iâm just going along for the ride.â
âThose are two very different areas--â she noted, perhaps she wasnât completely alone, âyouâre right and we do have quite some time--â grinning. âan entire year to sort out our lives -- I think weâre going to be fine--â
âOh? Heâd do that to people. Oh you know Albus? Heâs one of my best bud.â He added, beaming now. âThe future is always scary. Any particular dreams or aspirations youâre heading to?â
âHe really does have a certain effect on people--â she muttered, âI actually just kind of met him? Iâve heard of him and seen him about, but Iâve never really had the chance to speak to him until today! Honestly, Iâm not quite sure, something to do with language and law -- Iâm still working on it--âÂ
âOh yeah? If youâre around me more youâd get to see more crazy antics.â He added, putting his back on once more. âGlad I did though.â
âUh noted -- Iâll keep that in mindâ a sheepish smile tugging at her lips, âreally, you had it in the bag -- Mclaggen kind of riled me up, I had a nice conversation with Albus, but it kind of got me worrying about the future -- and well this, this was just funâÂ
Sterling had noticed the laughter that spilled from the girlâs lips all of a sudden. A smile sprung on his own after seeing her. âAt least my failure got a beautiful laugh out of you.â
âCute--â her smile widening ever so slightly, âIâve never really seen someone wrestle with a bag -- I think you might have just made my day--â
It was only just a moment later he had found the bag attempting to find a way around but Sterling had managed to tackle it. Wrestling it to the ground he took his wand, pressing it to the fabric and undid the spell, having it lifeless once more. âWhew..thanks. As for how it happened? Well a charm had went awry, lets just say. I love practicing them. Failure leads to greatness right?â
She had tried -- really tried to hold back her laughter at the sight of the boy wrestling down the bag, but she could only contain so much, âyeah -- Iâd like to think that failure leads to greatness, just keep trying and it will all eventually work out--â
âMy summer was fine. Filled with trips, meetings and oh so informative discussions with some of the greatest minds one would be lucky to converse with.â Prescott said, with the usual amount of aggravating arrogance lacing his words.Â
âHow quickly things change in the moment. You have a gift, though the same canât be said for your general⊠anything. I would think that out of line, though with you, I do find it best to drop any sense of decorum. Itâs what comes naturally.â At the mere insult, Prescott laughed. âYou think time is something to get up in arms about? How little the know it all truly understands. Hey, that would make for a great poster. Perhaps we can pay a first year into making it, or you can always breathe down their back until they do.â
âThat sounds entertaining -- I hope it was productive, here I was hoping that youâd come back with a little bit of humanity. Should have known better--âÂ
âItâs natural for you to be the most impolite human being to ever exist? Thank you for the epiphany -- that makes it all clearâ she retorted, her agitation besting her once again. There was something about the boy before her that made her want to tear her hair out -- or well, tear his out. She shouldnât have to suffer because of his ignorance. You are so right, Prescott -- I donât care or even fathom whatâs going on. Itâs not as if I care enough to stay in the loop -- attend meetings and try to give a little hope, but then again hope is probably not a word that youâre too familiar with. Too busy trying to ensure separation, merlin forbid every student be given a right to choose their educational environment--â
âDonât blame how you took my words on me, Avani. If one wants to quibble, they will find a way. Clearly.â
âIgnoring the rubbish that apparently flows so easily out of your mouth, I will agree with you. We Fudgeâs have been accused of such in the past.â
âI donât want too --â she nearly started before choosing to take a deep breath, âalright Prescott, I apologize if my general question irked you, how was your summer?â she tried, a well practiced smile toying at her lips.Â
âSo kind, here I thought we were going to attempt to be civil. I was merely stating something that you wanted to take a shot at me with. Sure, I might be on a few posters and I might be a representation of an organization, but can you really say that Iâm the only poster child here? How is your cousin? Clearly she hasnât found a way to tear down decree 48, is she getting frustrated? I hope she isnât stressing too much, it really takes a toll--â
âMuggle stationary is amazing. I have a box full of different papers, envelopes, and pens. Theyâre organised by paper type and colour. Itâs my favourite. And because my entire family is magical, I have an excuse to use it all to write them letters.â
âOf course you do -- are there different colour schemes of paper or are we just talking rainbow? I might be a little offended that I havenât received a colourful letter--â
âTo think I thought weâd start off on a better foot. However, so be it. It is easier not to pretend one finds enjoyment in such⊠attention seeking behavior. Iâll stick to seeing your likeness on posters and whatnot.â
âYou basically implied that I was a loon talking to myself -- whatâs your definition of better foot? Coming from the most ironic boy to ever exist -- thatâs rather flatteringâ Â
âI also never really pegged you as a hypocrite, then again youâre just full of surprises--â
âDear Merlin, has the unthinkable finally happened. The great Avani Patil has run out of words.â
âI was attempting to listen to my mum for once, the whole it takes more courage to walk away than to say something? You really know how to bring out the petty in me -- thank you for that, I really missed it--âÂ
