The Na'vi Song Cord is a symbol of their culture used for recounting information and stories. Individual Na'vi create a song cord that is used as a tactile representation of their own personal or clan history. The design behind each Song Cord was inspired by that character's personal journey.
For example, important moments in Jake's life are depicted by elements such as a piece of an Omatikaya arrowhead, a button from Grace's lab coat, and a lock of Kiri's hair, among others.
Within Neteyam's Song Cord is woven his birthstone with a drop of his blood and Omatikaya from the Hallelujah Mountains, among other natural items collected throughout his lifetime. These pieces had to show the intricate meaning behind each character's story and were a demonstration of the detail it took to bring this world to life.

Hold up: Payakan.... if he was Navi.
I was trying to stay true to his color palette, because that made him the most recognizable. Metkayina colors didn't look right. So let's pretend he can keep his tulkun colors. His missing fin translated to a missing arm and scars all up the left side.
