Clark is nearly a foot off the elevator when you shoot him a look. “You’re late.”
“It’s barely nine am,” Clark laughs, his eyes crinkling before he steps back. “I wanted to introduce my cousin, Kara. She’ll be staying with me for, uh, a bit.”
You smile as you take in the short blonde standing behind him, and extend your hand. “Kara, hi, I’m-“
You pause as she stares at your hand, unblinking before her eyes move to scan the newsroom. She looks overwhelmed, flinching when the phone rings.
“H-hi.” She says, looking to Clark and he nods.
“Oh you don’t speak English,” you say, lowering your voice. “You’re learning?”
Kara nods looking increasingly embarrassed. Clark adjusts his glasses. “She’s still getting the hang of it. She’s…from Europe.”
You glance between them, and when Kara speaks you highly doubt it’s a European language. Clark had always been a little strange, a little off, but he’s kind and you’re willing to bet so is his cousin. Everyone at the Daily Planet had their secrets, and you have a sneaking suspicion Kara’s is the biggest.
“Would you like to get lunch with me?” You ask and Kara blinks.
“You and me?” She gestures between you both and you nod.
You grin. “Yes. Unless you have plans.”
She looks to Clark again before shaking her head slowly. “No…no plan.”
“Great,” you beam. “I know a place.”

Lunch with Kara is maybe one of the most adorable things you’ve ever witnessed.
You take her to a small sushi restaurant down the block, explaining the menu as she watches with laser-beam focus. She asks questions using broken English and gestures, and you try to answer as best you can.
“What do you usually eat?” You ask after ordering you both waters, and Kara tilts her head.
“Usually?”
“Yeah,” you try. “Favorite food?”
Kara thinks, her brows raised before she says. “The pie.”
“Pie?” You reply and she nods.
“Many pie.”
You grin. “That’s a very specific answer.”
Kara’s own mouth spreads into a smile, matching your own, and you feel suddenly bare under her gaze.
When the food arrives, Kara becomes entranced by the chopsticks. Holding them carefully, she tries to mimic your actions, picking up a roll that immediately drops. With a frown, she tries again, watching as you pop a roll into your mouth.
“You’re fighting with them,” you offer. “Try holding them like this.”
You hold up your fingers, showing your grip, and Kara looks confused again. “Fight?”
“Yes, and the chopsticks are winning.” After a few more failed attempts, you grab a dumpling with your own chopsticks and raise it to her. “Here.”
Leaning forward, Kara sniffs the food inconspicuously before frowning and pulling away. You laugh, shaking your head as she looks between you and the dumpling.
“Try it,” you chuckle, then raise a brow. “For me?”
Kara blinks, a faint blush creeping along her face before she leans forward and takes a bite. She chews slowly, and then is nodding, leaning forward to finish the piece.
“It good,” Kara hums after she swallows. “Very good.”
She smiles, and something about it makes your heart skip a beat.

“How was lunch?” Clark asks as you and Kara approach his desk, his grin contagious.
“Good,” Kara says, looking between you and him. She pats her stomach and you smile. “Food ah, yum.”
“Well thanks for joining me. I should get back to work,” you look at her with a softening smile. “I hope to see you again soon.”
“Soon?” Kara echos, and you nod.
“Yes,” you hum. “Soon.”
A small smile tugs at her lips as she watches you return to your desk, your words sitting like a promise in her chest.

That night, Clark finds Kara sitting quietly by the window ceil, Krypto in her lap. He gives her a smile, trying to put her at ease. Kara’s transition into Metropolis hasn’t exactly been smooth, but so long as he’s patient, it hasn’t been so bad.
“Long day?”
“Women,” Kara says, her blonde brows knitted together. “At office. She is different.”
“Woman,” Clark corrects, and he sits down beside his cousin. “And I suppose to you, she is.”
“I have…met a many people,” Kara struggles to find her words and Clark waits. “But that woman…make me not so strange.”
Clark licks his lower lip, clasping his hands. “She made you feel welcomed? Like you belong?”
“She smiles,” kara nods, running her fingers over Kryptos back. “She help me, for me. She nice.”
“You like her.”
“Like her?” Kara questions, and Clark holds his hands up in the shape of a heart. Kara’s eyes widen and she shakes her head. “I no say that.”
“You didn’t have to,” Clark chuckles. “But it’s okay, you’re right. She is nice.”
“You…” Kara pauses, then holds her hands up in a heart. “Her too?”
“Oh, no,” Clark says with a shake of his head. “No I fear my type is a bit more…uh, bossy.”
Kara isn’t sure she understands him but she stays quiet nonetheless. After a little while Clark stands, bidding her goodnight and when he’s gone, Kara lays back on the sofa. She thinks about you, the way you look at her and how you laugh. She wonders if finally, after all these months, she had found someone on Earth besides her cousin that makes her want to stay.

Tries so hard to play it cool around you but miserably fails
If you mention a movie you like or a band you’re a fan of, she’ll go and watch/listen to it and come back to you pretending she’s been a fan of what you like for ages
Always finding reasons and excuses to be around you
She’s very obvious about it but you pretend not to know
Even Clark notices it and teases her with a knowing smile anytime you two are close to each other
Appreciates how you listen so intently when she talks about her childhood and past
Will fly you anywhere you want, says that she’s faster and better than a plane
Shows off a lot, one time you couldn’t open a jar and asked her for help
She jumped at the chance but got a little too eager and accidently smashed the jar because she forgot for a moment how strong she really is
You see her sheepish smile quite a lot because of moments like this
Thinks you’re capable and doesn’t want to treat you like a baby, but will definitely carry everything for you if you show even one second of struggling with carrying something
She’ll joke about you being a bit weak though so she doesn't seem too nice
Always gets softer when you make physical contact with her, whether it’s a hand on her shoulder or a hug
Kara deflects with jokes because she’s annoyed at her fluttering heart and isn’t aware you like her back
Krypto is obsessed with you, which makes her like you even more
She talks to Krypto sometimes about how she likes you so much and that he should be on his best behaviour around you
She lets you take him for normal dog walks through the park even though he’s so active he doesn’t need them
Krypto once “accidently” nudged Kara a little too hard into you, making you catch her
Enjoys drinking at the bar with you, she likes watching your drunk state
Because you’re on Earth, it’s harder for her to get drunk so she stays sober
Plus, she doesn’t want to be blackout drunk anyway in case something happens to you
Bars aren’t exactly the safest place for women so she makes sure you’re having a good time, but still watches out for you
Definitely isn’t subtle when a man comes near you. She makes sure he fucks off and you just giggle
You actually confess your crush on her when you’re drunk
She doesn’t respond much because of how drunk you are, just takes you home safely and makes sure you won’t throw up in your sleep, listening to your heartbeat
However, when you meet her the next day, you can’t help but notice how flirty and cocky she’s suddenly gotten
She doesn’t say anything about the confession, and you don’t remember
Even if it’s sudden, you’re just glad she finally has the confidence to hit on you
You flirt right back with no hesitation
One evening, about a week or so later, she says she wants to take you somewhere
Of course you accept, and she flies you two to a hill overlooking a lake in the middle of nowhere, the stars and planets shining brightly
You both sit down in the grass and don’t talk much, appreciating the comfortable silence and each other’s presence
When the silence goes on for longer, you decide to break it with something cheesy
“The view is beautiful, but not as beautiful as you.”
You could’ve sworn there was a slight blush as Kara replied dryly, “Oh my god, wow. That was awful, probably the worst line I've ever heard.”
