“Thanks, Ave…I mean it.” Elliot gave his sister a genuine, appreciative smile at the compliment from having seen all of his films, even while she was away. He likely hadn’t expressed a thank you to her enough, now that he thought about it. Thankfully, working in the industry hadn’t gotten the best of him, focusing himself primarily on the work alone and furthering his career. It was support like hers that kept him grounded when he needed it most. Despite everything, they both had found professions they cared about. They both endured long roads with him finding his own footing, and her veterinarian school. “And I’m just as proud of you, you know.” He nodded, suddenly realized the store they’d been standing in front of. “Deal. — Oh. That’s what you’re doing now, I take it? Looking for furniture?” Elliot motioned towards the pieces in the nearby window. “Well, I’ll take your word for it, then. You are the animal expert.” He grinned a bit, yet it quickly faded at all he’d been made known of. “— Guilt? It was a freak thing. You couldn’t have saw that coming…” Just like he remained in disbelief about her further admittance. “..Well, I’d rather you not hide it.” Everyone in this city kept secrets too much on a daily basis. “I just…I don’t get it. Why even go to her?”
"I know, thank you." She knew he was proud of her, she always knew but it couldn't be compared to hearing him say it. Talking to him, just felt right. After all, he had been the main reason why she had chosen to move back to New York, to try to reconnect with her brother. "Yes, I guess it was time to buy a decent couch." Her eyes went back to the store, noticing some of the items inside before looking back at Elliot. "Not because of the accident," she started, now keeping her gaze on the ground. How could she explain to him why she felt so guilty? Better said, where to start? "It's just a series of things, El. You know, you just start to wonder if you could have done things differently and all that..." Or maybe tried to stop him when he left after a fight or having felt relieved after he died instead of grieving him. "Well, I didn't have anyone there." Sure, the family of her husband had been supportive but it was not the same and she could barely stand being in the same room as them, everyone talking about how great of a son and friend he was when none of them really knew how terrible he could be. "I guess you are wondering why I didn't call you or even dad, but we hadn't spoken in years and I just felt like I needed my mother." She had left years ago, and for so many time Ava felt like she didn't need her until she found herself alone. In a way, she had also abandoned her own family, so who better to understand than her?
