#it’s getting hot in the kitchen
“I think about dying but I don’t want to die. Not even close. In fact my problem is the complete opposite. I want to live, I want to escape. I feel trapped and bored and claustrophobic. There’s so much to see and so much to do but I somehow still find myself doing nothing at all. I’m still here in this metaphorical bubble of existence and I can’t quite figure out what the hell I’m doing or how to get out of it.”
— Matty Healy
I fucking love her omg
@elitiist
I’m not interested in the romanticized version of people, but what they actually are. Not because that’s all dark, but because it’s a lot of things. It’s generous and empathetic, and it’s also vile and crass. We’re all these conflicting things melted into one. I feel like a student of human nature. I like to explore what it actually is, because that’s more interesting than rainbows and butterflies. People are weird! There’s nothing as weird as a person.

“In my defense, I did not see that gutter there,” Don said, by way of apology. He looked back at his car in its hopeless state of being stuck in the mud. He and Jackson have tried countless times to get it out of the rut it was in, only to fail miserably. “It’s not Bubba’s, but I got us somewhere. The Farmer’s Market is a block away in case you need anything?” His face scrunched up as the reality of what he said set in. Why would he say that when his friend had a literal farm himself? “Or we could just browse. While waiting for the tow.”

Finishing her opening lecture, Leanne decided to to take her lunch in the park. The weather was simply too nice not to be outside today. She munched on her bagle while marking the partner scenes and organizing sheet music for her next class. “Oh! Darn it.” Leanne sighed as a gift of wind came through blowing her papers around. “I’m sorry, do you mind grabbing that one for me before it flies away?” She hurried to snatch up the others. “I guess the wind is trying to tell me it’s time for a break.” She chuckled softly.
▬
Maybe Leanne had the right idea about taking their lunch outside, Don thought. It was nice weather outside. ...Or maybe he thought too soon, as a gust of wind blew through and took away Leanne’s work papers along with it. “You were right about this being a working lunch,” he joked. He jogged after the last remaining papers before the wind took them away completely. “I think the wind is also telling you about the magic of a fastener. Or a binder clip. Or even just a stapler,” He quipped, raising a brow at his friend. “But a break is definitely overdue for you, honey.”

Scattered clouds blanket the sky hovering above Heartsdale. The air was still sticky-warm, the kind of subtle heat that offers the promise of another Georgia summer just around the corner. Isla was already planning an abundance of summer-sweet tunes to play on the station during the warmer months. Even now, sitting behind the steering wheel of her vehicle, she hums the songs to herself, making a mental note of each one. Just as she was in the thick of her process, her car makes a strange sound, as if it were gargling mouthwash. This was her own fault, really, she had been procrastinating when it came to getting her car fixed. One of the little lights on the dash had been flickering for what feels like forever.
Her dark brows furrow, a groan escaping from inside her throat. And, then, smoke, billowing from the hood. “Shit,” She mutters under her breath, making a right turn into a parking lot somewhere downtown. When she hops out, padding toward the source of her issue, Isla turns to someone nearby. She swats her hand, a lackluster attempt at wafting away the smoke. “You wouldn’t happen to know anything about cars, would you?” The woman questions, her expression scrunching a tad.
▬
Don, just having finished his morning run down the neighborhood, took to grabbing a drink at the nearest cafe. On his walk home, he came across what looked to be a disaster in the making. He came to a halt beside the smoking car and its frantic driver. “Rough day you’re having?” he asked, looking from the car to the driver. “Hmm, only the basics if I’m being really honest. Just enough to know the basic maintenance so it doesn’t do...that.” He looked back at the driver’s pleading face. “Which I guess you didn’t do,” he said, giving a light chuckle. “You want me to call a mechanic? I know a guy.”

Don might’ve been a little bit annoying to the older man. He double, triple, maybe even quadruple texted him asking what it was he needed to take with him on their little excursion. In all the years Don had lived, he’d done mountain biking, wind surfing and ziplining, but never once had he gone out and fished. Guess there’s still firsts for him to do, huh. He showed up to the Jefferson’s fishing shop dressed in a Google images version of fishing gear, complete with the overalls and multi-pocketed vest. “You think I overdid it? I honestly don’t know what to expect,” he said cautiously. He tried to gauge Jet’s reaction over his appearance, halfway sure he had done something wrong. Don was definitely stressing out over spending a couple hours in the quiet, alone with his thoughts.

❝ SATURDAY, MAY 15TH, 2021 at the rattlesnake with anyone —
No. Just… no. That wasn’t— “For fuck’s sake.” The curse fell so softly from Cait’s lips while she stared at her phone with utter horror seeping across her face. Somehow, she’d messed it up again. Swiped right instead of left. And now? Now she’d just accidentally matched herself with the creepy kid from sophomore chemistry that used to eat his erasers.
The door opened with a little jingle, signaling a new arrival, and Cait went into full blown panic mode. She knew. Somehow she just knew. There were only so many places to go on a Saturday…
“I’m sorry, this is so awkward,” she murmured in a rush to the person beside her, afraid to look over her shoulder. Maybe it was him, maybe it wasn’t, but she didn’t care to tempt fate. “I—“ God. How did one explain the fuckery of their life in less than thirty seconds? “It’s a long story,” she confessed, “but would you pretend we’re here together for a few minutes? Please? I’ll throw in free admission to the museum.” And then, because that wasn’t what most would call appealing, she amended, “I mean drinks! I’ll buy— I’ll buy your next few drinks.” @heartsdalestarters

The Rattlesnake wasn’t Don’s typical place to be. It was on him for wanting to mix it up with different people all the time. That, and he just so happened to be in the neighborhood delivering groceries to some lovely lady he met a couple times. She had greatest misfortune of having lost her husband recently and Don wanted to help out a friend in need.
He made his way into the bar, trying to make a beeline for the counter when he got roped into conversation with the nearest person. “Sure, why not?” he said, compliant. “No drinks necessary, if you just tell me who...or what it is you’re trying to avoid. You know, in case I need to avoid it myself.”

Liv really didn’t go out to bars all that often. She didn’t drink much and she was usually busy with her kids, but she was told she needed to take some time for herself. Since her divorce last fall, she really hadn’t made much of an effort to put herself back out there and now she finally felt ready to take that chance. Reluctantly, she let a friend set her up on a blind date and the guy never showed up, so now here she was sitting alone at a table in The Nickeback. Of course this would happen to her, she had the worst luck. Getting up from the table, she approached an empty stool at the bar countertop and tapped the person next to it on the shoulder. “Is this seat taken? I’d hate to just plop myself down if someone was sittin’ here.”
▬
As much as Don liked people, the sentiment was not always reciprocated. The plans he had made to meet up with an old friend from high school fell through when they didn’t show up. That much was apparent when Don spent the last hour drinking by himself. It was getting pretty pathetic there until someone came up beside him. He glanced up when he heard someone speak. He could only assume she was talking to him, unless someone else just so happened to be sitting right where he was. “Given how long it’s been empty, I’ll say no,” he mumbled. “You drinking alone too?”

“Listen, there’s beer in the fridge. I got us some pizza on my way back home and we can either watch a game or just play one with some healthy competition,” there was also in the list the change of getting high while playing video games, which for Chidi was always an entertaining option. It gave him the chance of having more laughs than he’d while sober. Either way he was always game to whatever Adonis would have in mind, it was one of the perks when you decided to share a place with a friend. Aside from a few moments Chidi would show his stubborn side, he liked to assume that he was a good roommate, and he’d attempt to continue being one. “How was your day? Hope me being home isn’t getting in the way of you meeting someone over. Just let me know and I’ll go to my room. I mean, who was the last person you went out with? I forgot the name…” Maybe he was just teasing Don, but if his friend shared some information about it, Chidi would gladly listen to it.
▬
“I heard beer and I heard pizza, and I’m in,” Don responded with a light chuckle.Truthfully, it wasn’t that hard to talk Don into anything. He was pretty much down with anything; it was just the way he was. If you asked him to hide your drugs or elope in the morning to evade a clingy ex, he probably would do it. No convincing required. He glanced over at his roommate, listening to what he said. “Oh, please,” he almost sighed out. “If I didn’t know any better, I’d think it was you trying to get into my pants. Which... I wouldn’t really be opposed to, you know?” He gave his friend a teasing smirk before deciding to take a seat on the couch. “Hmm, his name was Christian. And we did some very un-Christian things that night, but you already know that. And maybe you might see him again. We had plenty of fun.”
