This was also written for @buckysknifecollection​‘s 1k challenge! I had the song prompt of Little Lion Man by Mumford and Sons! Congrats on 1k hun!!

Weep little lion man, You’re not as brave as you were at the start

You found blue eyes lighting up across the crowded courtyard, beaming smile touched on the dirt freckled glow of his face, and it startled you; stilled you right in your tracks and set a stone deep into your chest, made it hard to breathe, because that wasn’t the man you knew.

No—he wore a weightlessness about him, even as he stepped away from the crowd erupting in celebration and shied to the outskirts of the commotion, he was smiling. It wrinkled up by his eyes, left behind dimples in his cheeks, a slight shake of his head as small wisps of hair fell down to his forehead. 

He didn’t seem to be counting each moment of joy on his fingers, calculating how much relief he allowed for himself before the shadows came rushing back in to take it away. He was… happy.

A/N: hi hello welcome to the start of a very turbulent journey which will probably be around four to five parts! hope you enjoy!

Your first impression of James Buchanan Barnes was not a good one.

On the first day of first grade - after moving from Seattle to Brooklyn and transferring schools - you stood at the front of the class with Miss Hart on your right and a spotty lunch box held in your left hand. She introduced you to the class and asked if little Steven Rogers would look after you for the day, show you around and sit with you at lunch so you had somebody to sit with.

Steve was eager to help, he gave you a big grin and promised to wait for you when the bell rang for recess. He took a big puff of his inhaler which shocked you a little - you had never seen one before, what the hell was he breathing in?

He kept his promise and waited for you when everyone was dismissed, asking you a whirlwind of questions and promising to introduce you to his best friend in the whole entire world. You sat with him in the cafeteria and answered all his questions, he asked why you had moved from so far away and you told him its because your parents couldn’t decide where to live so your mom stayed in Seattle and you came to Brooklyn with your dad.

You followed him out into the playground and he helped you draw a hopscotch court on the ground with chalk. He was confused about where his best friend was but he promised that you would love him and you would all be best friends.

That sounded very good to you.

I guess this is how I’m processing what we’re all going through right now. I had the stray thought, “What is Spider-Man doing during all this?” and this happened. On the one hand, it’s kinda sloppy and inconsistent, but on the other hand, I had the idea Sunday night and I’m posting this Wednesday night. 5 color pages in 4 nights is pretty good work. Anyway. Hope everyone’s safe out there.
