This Tumblr will be run by two people, due largely to the fact that one is more of a writer and the other is more of a graphic designer. Also because the writer is very, very busy.
Also, we will start posting some Avengers tweets we encounter that we find hilarious or full of feels.
The years take their toll on you.
It’s not because of the hours you spend processing paperwork or the days you spend traveling for field assignments. No, it’s not even because of the numerous people you deal with.
It’s because of the lives the agency has lost. Superiors. Mentors. Trainees. Friends.
But you learn to be distant. You learn how to seem detached, but the truth is, you care too much about the agents, about what S.H.I.E.L.D. stands for, about everything this place has worked for.
You sip your coffee, continue nonchalantly with your day because the world hasn’t stopped and neither has your work. Sentimentality is a distraction, but you never forget the sacrifices made along the way.
You believe in heroes because those men and women didn’t die for nothing.

There's nothing special about you.
Nothing out of the ordinary, nothing tragic, nothing out of place that sets you on a distinct path for the rest of your life. You had both parents in your life, both loving, both present to raise you.
It's the stories your mother told you -- stories of the Star Spangled Man -- that would influence a decision that would change your life.
You believe in heroes because your mother told you they were real.

It's not easy getting involved with SHIELD but luckily for you, your mother had connections. You start out with paperwork and it doesn't bother you in the slightest. You haven't been out on the field, but you're eager to. If this is what it takes to get there, then it was all worthwhile.
But really, it was all worthwhile anyways because your work helps in keeping the world safe.
You believe in heroes because you're surrounded by them.
III.

The Avengers Initiative comes together and it is, partially, thanks to you. You've brought them together and though not all of them get along, they're what the world needs.
Besides, Captain America is alive. That's really the most exciting part about all this. You got to see it all. Got to see Captain America frozen, freed, and introduced to a new time.
Compose yourself, agent. You're on the job.
There's not much recognition in your job, but that was never something that mattered to you. You understood early on that there things far more important than yourself. You understood what the world needed. Heroes. And a little bit of old fashioned.
You believe in heroes because yours was standing in front of you.
V.
You were always the calm one. In the face of adversity, you were the one that held everyone together. With all the chaos that ensued following the infiltration of the helicarrier, you knew exactly where you were needed.
Loki.
You were afraid. Of course you were, but you didn't let it show. Didn't, that is, until you felt a hole in your chest. It was a brief instant. You faltered in your facade, but you're granted that, especially in your last moments.
But you've got a couple breaths left in you, a bit of strength left. There was no way in hell you'd let this guy get off easy.
There are no heroes here to save you. There's only you.
"You're gonna lose," you say. "It's in your nature."
Looks like you hit a soft spot. Time to take advantage.
...So that's what that does.
VI.
"I'm sorry, boss."
The director finds you and everything's going to be fine now. "Stay awake," he tells you. "Eyes on me."
Except he has this look. This shread of sympathy that he never shows. Never. And you know now that this is it. You're not in good shape and if the director can see, then you might as well accept it.
You were never one to disregard orders, but this is one you just can't. "No," you tell him. "I'm clockin' out of here."
"Not an option." That's the boss for you. He always had faith in you.
"It's okay, boss," you say quietly. 'Sorry' just couldn't cut it, couldn't explain how he wished he wasn't letting him down.
'It's okay, boss' tells him you knew exactly what you were doing. You knew the risks, you knew what you were fighting for. It tells him you're going to be okay.
But this was never about you. You always knew it. So you tell him this will be enough to push the Avengers to come together as a team.
Or you try to, anyways.
VII.
You believe in heroes, and it's not because you think you are one.
You believe in heroes because that's what the Avengers are.
Finally got this Tumblr working. Director Fury has asked that I keep a record of my field assignments and anything else he thinks I should note.
Almost like paperwork, except it's online. Digital.
We'll see how this goes.
