Well personally I like to think that modern day Raskolnikov would have a guilty pleasure of watching ASMR before bed every night. i think hed totally lay on his crusty couch in his tiny apartment with a badly cracked Samsung Galaxy S7 or something and, in his half-asleep state, would be absolutely mesmerized by those squishy wax cracking videos. and then he'd hit those mirco-sleeps that happen as you're doom scrolling and eventually start snoring with "30 minutes of creamy tapping ASMR" still playing. and that's how he gets any sleep at night

I’m choked up thinking of the way Dostoevsky writes about Alexei in his introductory chapter. Writing the life back into a lost child must be quite the emotional experience. I have to assume the great lengths the narrator goes to extol Alexei’s many virtues is rooted deeply in the grief Dostoevsky felt over the loss of his two children and his wish to give them the adulthood they’d never see.
