“When Marissa told me we’re arriving back here, I thought she was just pulling my leg. Well guess the joke is on me.”
“Being a redhead is a niche department, don’t try to blend in because you’re not going to. Just own it.”
“Kids grew fast while I was gone, but other than that it seems like Helios is just the same as always. You, on the other hand, are glowing. What’s got you so happy?”
“I got a job with Cosmopolitan. But the problem is...trying to work from here.” Avery shrugged her shoulders.
“Avery!” Lindsay smiled kindly at the redhead, not minding at all the way they had bumped against each other. “Not much, just catching up with the island. How are you?”
“I’m doing great, I’m guessing not much has changed around here? Unless I’ve been totally oblivious to everything.” Avery laughed,
“Hey, sorry I didn’t see you. What’s up?”Avery turned around to face the person, giving an actual smile toward them and not having to force it for once.
Be careful with her. She’s more fragile than she seems.

“I’m good, exhausted but I’m good.” Lindsay finally set the box down, regaining her breath. She smiled to the person behind the counter. “Here’s this month’s, I will see you in four weeks.” Turning back to Avery she turned her smile into something more genuine. “How are you?”
Avery shrugged her shoulders, in a way she was a bit better then a couple weeks ago but there was that struggle of trying to talk to her parents that consumed her. Avery forced a smile on her face, “It’s all good now that I got rid of some clothes which means I can shop for even more.”
Considering this is the first election where I can actually vote, thought I’d turn on the news for once, watch a debate. Huge mistake.
Oh honey, why would you do that? It’s like a blood bath on the news when it comes to politics. Someone did something and the other skeleton is coming out of the closet.
Lindsay walked inside the charity, wobbling under the weight of her own box. She recognized Avery’s red hair and huffed when she set down the box. “Didn’t expect running into anyone here, so I apologize for my messy bun. But I do understand what you mean by spring cleaning being a pain.”
Avery looked over her shoulder at the girl, giving her a gentle smile. “But at least it’s like getting a load off your shoulder in a way.” She said while scooting the boxes over to give Lindsay some room for her own. “How are you?”
Avery packed up the last of her boxes, sliding them toward the charity and sighed, “Who knew spring cleaning could be such a pain.” She said to no one but herself.

“Well, I try not to wash it every day, that helps.”
“I’m not a hair expert but I guess showering every day does somehow damage your hair natural oils.”
Brooke laughed as she cringed. “My bad habits always have a way of making people feel better about themselves.”
“It appears so.” Avery said, looking at Brooke’s hair, “Consider you pulling at your split ends, your hair looks decent.”
Lindsay smiled, pleased that Avery seemed to be looking forward to her company. “I don’t think I’ve ever tried coffee here, but I’ll take your word for it.” Without thinking, she started walking towards the stairs before stopping on her tracks. “I uh, I don’t really use elevators. But that’s just me, I know it’s weird, so feel free to wait for me downstairs.”
“Why? Are you one of those people that try to fit in a little work out by using stairs?” Avery asked, then thought that she had a fear of elevators. “Sorry, I always assume things without actually thinking about it. I could join you walking down the stairs.”
Lindsay followed Avery’s finger down the hall and nodded, suddenly remembering the correct number of her best friend’s room. “I’m not busy, actually coffee sounds really good.” The brunette smiled gently, stepping backwards in case Avery wanted to step out of her room. “I know a great place.”
Avery smiled, grabbing her bag that was sitting on the little table by the door, she walked out, shutting the door behind her. “Great. It seems as if the hotel doesn’t know the taste of great coffee.”
Carter nodded sympathetically in response, not intent on pushing her troubles. “Me? Oh, boy– ah, getting out clears my head, I guess. Lot of mumbo-jumbo in there lately. I wouldn’t be imposing myself if I were to ask to join you on your walk, would I?”
Avery thought about it, usually she preferred being by herself and was quite used to it growing up. But tonight she didn’t mind having someone to talk too, “Sure, as long as you don’t get us lost. I grew up in the city not an island.”
