I have no full proof data on this but in my personal opinion men these days are more misogynistic because of the constant stream of misogynistic material on social media that they all consume and the unlimited violent pornography most watch. It gives them more spaces and time to bond over hating women anonymously plus they are now in fight mode online vs women (they call it a gender war) because now women are more aware how much men casually hate them whereas in the past the average women were more oblivious.
And the only reason why they don’t seem that misogynistic to some women and more progressive is because of the rights we have already gained (and lost), so because of women’s pushback and not because men decided to behave themselves. Women fought for their rights and it wasn’t handed to them, remember that. Remover that when thinking that men today went that bad or feeling that you should let your guard down. Because right now you see men doubling down and you see it clearly online whereas irl the men you know are just formal and are smart enough to stfu or they might get excommunicated or fired for saying the wrong thing. They constantly complain about DEA hiring and about wanting women back in the kitchen to raise rates and about banning abortion and they are dead serious.
So every time some women downplay today’s men’s misogyny and thinks feminists are making a big deal, I can’t help but think they’ve gotten too comfortable. They need to be aware that men are chomping at the bit to send women’s rights back as total subordinates and are just looking at the opportunity to do so (look how they make jokes about women in countries going through war right now), men are still the same.
