RULES About under the cut
the wicked movie teaches important moral lessons like "be bisexual in college" and "don't trust politicians" and "if you push someone who's in a wheelchair without their permission, someone might throw a bench at your head with their mind"
*nods* I always throw benches at people who push me without permission. /joking, silly

A young seadweller walks awkwardly from tank to tank, taking in the fish and waiting for someone. They shiver, the thick purple thigh high socks that should’ve kept them warm pooling around their ankles. They keep looking over their shoulder. They can feel confused looks on them, making their mutant fins flick nervously under the headscarf they tied to keep them hidden. They’re not supposed to be here. Their skin is so light and so soft compared to those around them, their adult molt being many sweeps in the future. CARCNI PEXIES closes their eyes and hopes Tavros shows up soon.
“I will, I promise.” He smiled up at them reassuringly. He tried his best to not cause problems- real problems at least.

“Ohh, I get it. I, uh, don’t talk to a lot of people much anymore either.” He’s sure that they probably had different reasons for that, but he wouldn’t press it.
He took a moment to close his eyes and concentrate on listening to them- through the glass and water always made it a little more difficult. “Mm… mostly just people watching it sounds like. They’re talking about me too, my horn. Since it’s different.”
‘I… guess yoou can’t tell them what happened, huh…’ they put a sympathetic hand on tavros’s shoulder.
”Not… not yet at least.” He’d been trying to avoid talking about it. Which was much the same way as he handled the way he was paralyzed. It made it easier to act like he didn’t need- or want- anyone’s help.
‘I’m soorry.’ They say quietly. ‘It… shoouldn’t have happened. It’s noot right. It’s cruel.’
“It’s fine, he could have chosen to do worse.” Tavros was used to dealing with pain at least.

He gave them a small smile and reached up to give their hand a pat in return.
“It’s just how it is here. For all intents and purposes, I, uh, should’ve been culled a long time ago. I’m lucky to have survived to adulthood after my accident.”
’Coome bback with me? Too my woorld?’ It’s a desperate, silly offer. ‘I coould keep yoou safe there.’
”That’s sweet, but, uh, I don’t think that would work out so well.” He had seen some of the views Carcni had said came from their guardians and partner, and Tavros wasn’t so sure he’d be comfortable being around those two.

Hey if you have chronic pain, you gotta remember that the cognitive load of dealing with that is exhausting. Just that alone. Never mind what else you've got going on.
You're not lazy or being dramatic; you're overloaded.

Tavros laughed a little at the questions.
“My favorite is our lemon shark, George. He likes to follow me around the tank when I’m working by him. Most of the animals here were born in captivity, but there are a few that were found injured and couldn’t be released.” He pointed out George as they passed. “Some of them do remember us, but some don’t care as long as their meals are on time.”
Carcni reaches out to George as he passes, wistful. ‘Soo he’s… a friend too yoou. Soort oof.’
”Yeah! He was just a little pup when I started here, so he grew up with my working with him. It helps that I can commune with them though.”
They turn, fins perking up. ‘Yoou can coommunicate with them?’
”Well yeah? Can the Nitram you know not do that?”
