he takes a shot. “hypothetically speaking, if i were to tell you i think you’re gorgeous, would you take it as me trying to get laid? cause i’m really just paying you a compliment, i swear, not that you’re not desirable, i just -.” he sighs, a light blush dusting his cheeks, “i just think you’re really pretty and wanted to tell you is all.”
his smile is unexpectedly genuine, but she returns it with as much sincerity as she can muster in the moment. she had expected him to accept her offer; it might be overconfidence but she can be certain at least that most bar-goers would find company, especially from someone like her, welcome. he doesn’t seem particularly interested, even though he offers a seat, and chaeyoung leans an arm against the counter to face him completely, resting her chin on her palm.
it’s oddly endearing, the way he stumbles over his words. the man isn’t the most eloquent but she’s learnt not to expect too much from the patrons, typically inebriated beyond coherence. a proper conversation is a rarity in these parts, as unintentionally awkward as her partner seems to be. chaeyoung raises an eyebrow when he questions her drink of choice.
“well, it wouldn’t quite be my first choice, but i don’t mind it.” she sighs and shakes her head. “can’t complain if it’s free, right? members’ ‘discount’ and all.” she waves her hand in the general direction of the bartender, and shrugs.
she can tell his gaze is working to avoid hers, and so she leans further in, coy little smile playing on her lips. his compliment is clumsy but cute, chaeyoung laughing when she manages to connect what he’s saying through the disjointedness. she thinks it would be fun to see him flustered, if he’s this out of sorts just trying to give a compliment. she thinks she’d like to try, to watch him flounder a little.
“do you want to get laid?” she teases, the side of her little finger close to touching his, purposely in his personal space. “we’ve got to at least exchange names first.”
