patron of the arts: spring beginnings, january 2024
my first art event ever! i'm so glad to have shared this tabling experience with layne and pau huhu i don't think i would've survived if i did it on my own ;^;♡
i attended the coldplay concert the day before the art event and even days before that, i had so many all-nighters trying to complete all of the art prep i needed for pota. in the end i kind of learned my lesson the hard way because i lost my voice that weekend, and i had such a hard time talking to people who visited our booth 😭.
anyways, i know this is such a late blog entry and i know i should've posted this last January (aaaaaaaaaa) but i'm so grateful for the support that my friends and i received! i was so used to seeing the local art community online, but seeing them all in real life was truly an unforgettable and wholesome experience and i can't wait to have more moments like this one 🩷.

i’ve always wanted to make my own OCs and i’m so happy i finally made these two !! lowkey they’re like two versions of me lol but i also took inspo from some of my favorite duos like love and berry, hihi puffy amiyumi, nana k and nana o, aaand the list goes on~
they are the first two aweshii girlz and i plan to add more characters within the year! making these characters reminded me of my childhood fondness for stickers and pretty fashion illustrations :'>
something that also came into my mind while i was making these illustrations was how Naoko Takeuchi made Sailor Moon and that she was at a very low place when she created the series, longing for friends like the characters she made. in a way, that's also how i feel about my OCs (and the future aweshii girlz to come! lol)
it was january 2024, i just started the year ~fresh~ coming out of my first design job, and i was also in a weird creative rut at the time with a shitty self-esteem so making them was honestly such a joy and it was quite healing to be able to create for myself again.
i'm not sure when i'll gather up the courage to make my own comics, but i hope you stay tuned for it hehe~

art from last month which i forgot to post here oops! 😅
this illustration is what i made for Young Star and it is for this essay article called “When dreams come with a cost” by Maia Marquez.
it was about chasing one’s dreams and the new beginnings it brings~

rabbits are my fav apart from dogs 🫶🏼
took inspiration from miniso’s discontinued rabbit plushies which i looove so much. those gave me such comfort during hard times that i had to hunt for two more during these past two years hahah
just like the rabbit, i hope that we can all hop through this year with peace and prosperity! 🐰🧧✨
last post for the year is dedicated to the editorial illustration i made last year, thank you to danni for guiding me throughout the process!
i remember feeling so burnt out back then, i honestly didn’t think i’d be able to finish it but despite all the stress i got from school at the time, i somehow managed to push myself and just forget about my perfectionist silly little thoughts about every single detail in the illustration. keeping that in mind, it really helped me throughout the challenges i’ve faced in 2022. if there’s one thing i’ve learned this year is that i’m not alone!! so i want to thank the people who supported me and the people i closely worked with for always believing in me even on my bad days, i’ll continue to do better in 2023! 🥹🫶🏼
this illustration is for The Benildean’s “Langit at Lupa” in the Redacted issue 😶
— TLDR the story is set during the peak of the pandemic and i wanted to show a still-life of a food spread that most elites like to splurge on during parties, weddings, and vacations, (food spreads that marie antoinetter would’ve probably thrown back then jk) and show the class struggle as well. there’s so much layers to this and that while they’re enjoying all of this luxury given their privilege, there’s another side wherein some experience the complete opposite.
feel free to check it out at bit.ly/thebenildeanredacted 👀
4th and last ootd illustration for this year! 💚
it feels kind of shallow that i find dressing up as a fun and therapeutic ritual before heading out of the house, but after 2 years of rotting + being stuck at home, getting to wear these colorful pieces outside really does wonders for my self-esteem 😌✨
pre-pandemic me would have never worn tank tops and anything skin-revealing in public. as someone who doesn’t look like the average filipino woman, i was always so conscious of how my body looked whenever i go out — it affected my self-esteem and most of all my posture! i think it’s because i live in the ph where people are still pretty conservative with their outfit choices and even with just a little amount of weight gain or any kind of physical change, relatives would already start making snarky comments. my body dysmorphia never really left but over the past few years, i’ve figured that the best way to get used to such clothes is to give 0 fucks and i think i’ve grown quite comfortable which is such a miracle hehehe. will definitely do more illustrations like these by 2023!

my last internship of the year ends today ✨
on our first week with pino studios, we had to create a poster to introduce ourselves. and so, this is me at a glance!
i posted this on facebook and instagram already but since this is my tumblr where only a few can see my posts, i guess it’s safe to add more to the caption lol.
to be frank, the past few months haven’t been easy and i’ve been struggling to look at the bright side in all of this since i tend to be kind of a perfectionist in everything i do (which is why it takes quite a long time for me to finish one artwork), but i came across this post that said instead of pressuring myself to excel all the time, it’s important to remember that there’s more value in the process. that made me feel less stressed about life after college.
now that i think about it, i actually did reach a lot of my goals this year:
✿ illustrated a few editorials for bpc and young star :’)
✿ interned at a design studio and somehow overcoming my fear of talking to strangers (rip)
✿ meeting up and spending time with my friends after not meeting them for over 2 yrs cuz of mizz rona
✿ went to my first concert alone ~ beatopia tour ~ (as someone with strict parents this issa big deal)
✿ having my own dog!? AAAAAA dream come true indeed :’)
✿ got back into biking after 1028292 years
✿ learned how to use a pottery wheel on my own
✿ surviving my thesis era (omygod)
it’s hard to remember these achievements sometimes so i’m glad i have this platform to list it down and share it here with you all hehe 🫶🏼 (aside from journaling too xd)
i may not be the best in what i do, but as long as i continue to do what i love and remember to enjoy the whole creative process just as my younger self did — i will probably do just fine in my early 20s 😔✊🏼.
super grateful for another year of growth and i can’t wait to focus more on my art next year since ya gorl is finally gradwaiting ! 🎓✨

here’s my go-to ~pambahay~ uniform since i rarely leave the house 🏡
drew this a few months ago for @thebenildean’s [REDACTED] issue about defying gender stereotypes in the 2020 Olympics.
my illustration was inspired by old filipino postcard stamps and posters of men and women in their traditional outfits, but this time i wanted to feature these inspiring athletes who have broken the norms and social constructs of what it takes to be considered a successful athlete in the philippines ✨

💖🌸 maxi dresses make me feel like i got my shit together :’> 🌸💖
one of the first illustrations i worked on for @thebenildean’s 2021 art folio — horizons: memento !! ✨
this illustration is of my lola and i. when i was a little kid, we used to wait for the street pizza vendor to pass by our street and buy a few slices and eat it together. it’s simple but it’s also one of the memories i’ll forever cherish with her <3
check it out here: bit.ly/horizonsmemento
here’s a @panko.and.daday still life illustration from 2020 🍎
i was quite burnt out when i started drawing it but for this illustration, i reimagined the apple knitting and living her ~best life~ at home
super happy i finally finished this one !! choosing to finish my art at my own pace instead of focusing on making everything look perfect 🫶🏼
*i also added faces on every object hehe*
