Though visually striking, the "corpse flower" lacks appeal in the scent department. Aptly titled, this flower comes from the rainforests of Sumatra, Indonesia, and it emits a putrid scent. This foul odor serves a purpose, drawing insects that thrive on carrion to aid in pollination. It takes 7-10 years for the plant to reach its inaugural bloom. Descriptions of its scent liken it to a blend of limburger cheese, rotting fish, sweaty socks, human feces, and a hint of sweet floral notes.
