“Just because you’re taller than me doesn’t mean you get the bigger cone,” Lucie declared the moment he stepped out, both hands full of ice cream. Her grin was triumphant as she added, “I’ve got seniority, little brother. Age outranks height every time.” Her eyes zeroed in on one cone in particular, catching the glint of raspberry sauce and a generous scatter of sprinkles. “And that one- don’t even try to argue; is definitely mine.”

"Are you serious? How is that fair at all?" he protested almost immediately. His expression twisted into one of disappointment the second Lucie claimed the very cone he'd been eyeing. "It's so unfair because even when I'm old I still won't be able to play that card with you," Axel groaned. "I went in and bought them," he continued to mope before he held out the superior cone to his sister. "But I suppose if you're going to die sooner you should enjoy every last second of the life you've got left," he then added as seriously as he could muster before he'd sputtered into laughter. He couldn't keep it up any longer. "Take it, Luce. Take it. I got the sprinkles especially for you."

Alison nodded along to Axel. "You definitely seem like a quality time kinda guy. I could see acts of service also."

"Yeah I'd say that's pretty accurate for me," he agreed with a nod. "I guess I do a good job of expressing myself or I'm super easy to read if you're able to gather that," Axel considered with a little laugh and a shrug.

"That's growing up for you..." Though it was more said for her own benefit than to ease Axel. "I understand that more than you know. It seems to me though, that the two of you have had changes for the better so even if it's hard sometimes, we should be glad of them."

"Yeah," he sighed lightly. "There's no escaping it so we just have to learn to accept it. Ebb and flow or whatever it is that people say," Axel mentioned with a shrug. "But I know you get it. I do. And I am glad I can always talk to you about these sorts of things and know you'll understand where I'm coming from."

Alison shrugged lightly, "I mean, you don't have to be into it. Not everyone likes physical touch. Maybe your love language is something, especially something other then sitting in your partner's warmth."

"Yeah I'd say mine is probably like quality time or something," he said, still looking at her funny after the way she'd phrased things. "Which I'm far beyond happy with. None of that sitting in someone's warmth business for me, thank you."

"Mate, that would be such an awesome thing to have. Can you imagine? We could have our own little joint batcave that would have all our music and stuff too." He mused with a little gasp of wonder as he continued to imagine that.

"I have to admit that that would be pretty damn cool," he grinned widely as Mason described the sort of batcave they could have for all their things. "It sounds like it'd be a great place to write as well."

"Thank you, Axel," Auggie replied with a bright smile, "I appreciate you saying that. Makes me feel like my efforts aren't going unnoticed."

"Oh, definitely not," Axel assured. "I'm very lucky I get to do what I do everyday, but if I had to go out there and job hunt I think I'd be far less determined with it like you are."

"You could get one you tie around your waist or a hand muff, they are quite nice too." She said with a little shrug of her shoulders when Axel mentioned not liking the idea of carrying it around with him. "But then it'll be your loss when you are shivering and I am nice and toasty."

"It all just sounds like a lot more trouble than necessary, you get me?" Axel flipped the bottle over in his hands as he observed it. "Jackets and the occasional hat and scarf have done me just fine for many years so I'm sure I'll be okay. But I can't deny that this is nice."

"Musicianship? I don't think I've ever heard it phrased like that before," Jonah admitted, "But yes, there's a section on music in aisle three," he explained, pointing in the general direction of whee he needed to walk.

"No? It is a real word... I swear," he swallowed back a dry lump in his throat as he second-guessed himself all of a sudden. "Fantastic, lead the way," Axel said, quickly following the other to aisle three.

"Nah, I'll do a glass of champagne. There's plenty of time left in the night to drink other things anyway, right?" Al replied with a chuckle.

"Yeah that's true. The night's still young as they say," Axel nodded with a smile. "And oddly enough, champagne is one of the cheaper options around here. But then again cocktails are always pricier."

"You wouldn't want that with your significant other?" Alison asked. "Maybe it's more so the fact physical touch is my love language."

"No, yeah, I mean, it sounds great and all," he shrugged back in response. "Just the way you phrased it sounded weird to me," Axel explained with another shrug.

"I should hope not." Because Lucie didn't even want to think about the idea of Aiden not being happy to see them. Whilst it was unlikely, he had his own life and probably had built something for himself when apart from them. It felt strange not to have him around like she was used to. "I know... I miss being able to do things together but I suppose everyone has their own thing now..."

"I know that it's all a part of life but it kind of sucks," Axel pouted with discontent. "I know that there will still be times when we all get together but I hate change. Big change like this. I often find myself missing how things used to be."

"If I can give you a real answer still, I'm going to assume I am not drunk enough." Not that Mason was the type to go out and get off his face on alcohol. That was a surprisingly rare occurrence. Mason gave the blonde an affectionate nudge when he called them brothers for life. "I mean, I'd be a little worried about how co-dependent we are but I'm not willing to spend too much time focusing on that at the moment. It's fine." He said with a grin on his features.

"I'm worried about our co-dependence too. Like are we going to have to live in houses with secret tunnels connecting them to be able to cope with adulthood? Because I wouldn't put it past us to do something like that," Axel mused with a snort.

"I find that time passes slowly when it's happening but feels quick once it's all gone," Octavia replied, shrugging lightly, "It's all a construct anyway, isn't it? That's what people say."

"Absolutely. It's one of those things that you can't explain and personally trips me up so bad," Axel considered with a shake of his head. "Hah– you're right. I mean how can we be sure that Romans were right when they created the calendar. Maybe days and months and years pass differently to the way we've been following since forever. And this has now gotten way too specific and deep for a conversation to have at a New Years party... hasn't it?" he snorted.

"Yeah, me too. I'm sure I'll go back to beer right after a glass but champagne is really a New Year's Eve drink, right? It feels criminal not to."

"Yeah it's like one of those things you gotta check off," he agreed with a nod and a grin. "But if you're not feeling champagne don't feel you should force it either."

"Woah rude much?" Cecilia said with a poke to his chest lightly. "I just was trying to figure out how much of a chance there was of you dropping me if I got you to pick me up so I could go and get that." Again, she pointed to the ceiling where the poor balloon had come to rest. "Nope. I don't need an errand boy, I just need someone tall to help me get up there." Not that it was much better when she put it like that. Honestly, she'd not even thought of magic to get it down and for a moment she fell silent. "But that one is the one so it's not the same if I got another."

"Ah– that makes more sense," Axel acknowledged, originally thinking she was going to judge how much he'd been drinking as her motives had been unclear to him at first. "So I'm just a glorified step ladder to you, is that what this is?" he gasped for dramatic effect as Cecilia explained what he was needed for. "But what if we got one that looked exactly like it?" Axel tried to bargain, hoping that magic could get it down because creating a tipsy totem tower could end really badly.

"Just the person!" Cecilia spoke energetically when she spied Axel. "I wondered where you had disappeared to. Now that I have you back, I have a job for you. Just how much have you had to drink?" She asked giving him a suspicious glance, clearly several drinks in herself. "Because I need to get that back down. It came off my wrist after someone cute tied it to me." The disappointment was clear from the pout on the woman's lips as she pointed up towards the ceiling where a huge new years balloon had come to rest.

"Not sure how that's any of your business," he chuckled when asked about how much he'd had to drink. Axel had come over with a smile at the enthusiastic greeting from Cecilia, only for his expression to drop. "Oh, I see– you just want me to be your errand boy," he scoffed, although he was just playing it up for the joke. Axel craned his neck upwards to see what she was referring to and where it'd gotten stuck. "Can't you just pull that down with magic or something? Or ask that 'someone cute' person to get it for you? Give you another?" he shrugged, looking back over to Cecilia.
